I received a little bit of cash for my birthday and thought what better way to spend it than to get myself a new ring! I thought these two sapphires were quite lovely, but can''t decide which to get. The less expensive one would allow me to get a setting sooner rather than later (I''d probably get a simpler setting, so yes, those few hundred would make a difference). Any suggesetions...advice...? To my untrained eyes, they''re both lovely.

They are both beautiful but I LOVE the color of the oval. The emerald cut would work perfectly too and the price is right. I still think that I would buy the oval and save up for the perfect setting.

i''m a sucker for emeral cuts.........have them both sent and send back the one you don''t like?

They both look lovely but I think I''d go with the EC. I''ll admit I''ve been wanted an EC ring recently so I''m kind of biased there. I think the EC will give you better color saturation but the oval will be more sparkly. I can''t wait to see what you decide and get made out of it.

They are both beautiful, but I prefer the EC. I just love the way they move. The colors are so yummy!

Hard choice!! I am an oval lover so that gets my vote, but that EC sure is pretty. Win win, either way!!

My vote is for the emerald. That oval is a bit busy if that makes any sense

MZ makes a good point though...in the hand is the best way to evaluate.

Wow, thanks for all the responses! It sounds like most people prefer the emerald cut. I''m normally more of an EC fan myself, not a huge oval person, but for some reason, this particular oval "spoke to me" more, so all I need to do is make a bank run on my lunch break to do the wire transfer. Yay! I appreciate everyone''s opinions.

Now another decision. Do I spend a couple hundred now and put it in a simple solitaire setting? Or do I practice a little patience and use that money to put it towards something nicer towards the end of the year. My budget won''t be huge either way (no Leon''s for me, bummer). I was looking at the Legato with micropave on the Whiteflash website, and it''s "only" $995 for the white gold...maybe set east-west...?

practic patience: why spend $ twice to set it? you can use the $ towards the setting you really want.

While I like the brilliance of the oval, the EC cut has more standard dimensions that should fit into most stock settings. The oval looks to be a cross between an oval and round (roval) and may not fit into many settings off the shelf. Just another thing to consider if you have budget constraints.

I had actually thought about that. Since I''m not looking at terribly expensive settings, I''ll be fine as long as the mark-up for customizing the head stays within a couple hundred dollars. If it''s not as simple as that, well, I suppose I''ll just have to wait a little longer. It''s a great point to consider, though!

I like them both, but it think i also prefer the EC for the price difference. It''s very pretty and a great color - would look great in so many settings! Plus, it looks like someone has the oval "out on memo" right now, unless that''s you!!!

I love the color on the EC. Pretty stone!!

Yep. Out on memo is me! I know there was a strong push for the EC, but for some reason, I kept going back to the oval. Plus, I couldn''t seem to get tiger007''s east-west Leon masterpiece out of my head. I wish I could afford a Leon, but since I can''t, I think Whiteflash''s micropave Legato will do just fine.

I was told that for a small-ish fee, they could customize the head to fit my sapphire. I''ll have to wait several months before I can move forward with that part of my project, which is a bummer, but I''m getting pretty excited!

Isn''t that ring to die for!?! Love it. I went to the bank to do the wire transfer yesterday, so I''m thinking sometime next week...? I paid for the 2nd day shipping, so it''s just a matter of NSC confirming that they''ve received funds, and getting it out in the mail. I wish I could afford to get the setting now, instead of waiting a few months to save up for it, but with all the rave reviews about Whiteflash, I''m sure it''ll be well worth it.

I hope you''ll post your own pics when it comes in the mail - i am dying to see a real life photo. I would love to own a yellow sapphire too! oh, and a pink one, and a blue one.....
