Last year I bought on a whim what I thought was an amazing and unique opal. Described as pinfire which I had never heard of (though was a complete opal virgin) I was quickly smitten. Now I want to set it, but have no idea how to. Not only my first opal, but my first cabochon as well.
It measures 6.69 cts, 15.5 x 11.1 x 7.2 mm. The dome is quite high so how do I set it? I see lots of bezelled set opals, but I don't think this will work for mine...? The first image is actually the flat back which is just as beautiful as the dome. Would any of you consider mounting "upside down"?
A lot of the fire in the opal is green, so I also am toying with the idea to set my 6mm matching pair of pear tsavorites with it, but not completely married to that idea yet. Thanks for any input!
