I''m trying to find a cuprian in that beautiful neon green/blue color...but I''m just not finding them anywhere. I would prefer a round or oval. Does anyone have them???

From what I understand, because it sometimes gets sold as paraiba, and has approximate costs, it''s fairly rare and expensive.

Richard Wise has some good info here

The only time I''ve seen it offered online at a reputable shop, it was sold already. (Not that I could have afforded it to begin with.)

www.paraibainternational.com has quite a few.
Thank you for the website! Wow I knew it was rare but I didn''t think it would be $500+per carat. Maybe I will be rethinking this one....hmmm

Sarah,
The really nice goes up exponentially in price up to $20K/ct even for a 1 carat cuprian.

I saw very few Mozambique cuprians at the last gem show I was at this weekend (maybe three). Incredibly, I saw approximately four Brazilian megabucks paraibas there, but those are out of the question for most mortals - LOL!! I had heard that because of the issues with some gemological groups believing that the color is artificially enhanced and the filler problems, the dealers that have them, are holding on to them for the time being. Some gemologists do not believe the science concludes that they are truly being artificially enhanced in color (they are being filled though), so there is some controversy on that.

In the meantime, they''re difficult to come by. I think Gene of Precisiongem had some material, but it''s not the super neon glowy stuff, but it''s still beautiful. He might have some more neon material, so I would ask, unless you don''t mind ones without a glow The ones without a glow are reminicent of aquamarine, but without the strong grey modifier that plagues most aqua. They''re still beautiful.

I would look at litnon.com as well. They have some pretty stones. Of course all the ones in the shapes people like have sold, but maybe there is something that he can get a hold of.

1 carat fine Brazilian can still be had for under 10 K per. african $3 k per. fine.

unless your dealing with a retailer or a seller who claims he''s a "dealer" only because he buys and sells lose stones from dealers.

the difference? such a "dealer" has never traded or sold to a dealer. a dealer''s main business is with retail stores other dealers and manufacturers. so, there prices will be higher. like $12 to 14 k for a brzil paraiba 1 carater. why? because they had to buy it from a dealer. right?

also, like no other stone on the market right now. paraiba prices are a bit all over the place.

Sarah, luckily I started collecting Paraiba/Cuprian Tourmalines a number of years ago (similar to TL) and back then, I found tons to choose from - although great neon quality stones were always difficult to find. If you search on my name you''ll probably find the thread where I photographed some of mine to give you an idea of colour differences. The prices were much much lower when I started collecting and over the past 2 years I''ve noticed that, as Steve says, the prices seem to be much more inconsistent but definitely higher. It seems that gone are the days when you can find a glowing neon specimen without having to take out a bank loan. I do hope you find one but be prepared to look at many stones until your prince (or George Clooney) come along. I would only buy from the people that have been linked above and stay away from Ebay for the reasons TL has already mentioned.
