I'm trying to source a blue sapphire for my daughter's 21st birthday, September. I want a nice cornflower blue, something that will not be too dark once set. And a nice sapphire. Please tell me what you think of this gemstone? My budget is $2,000 give or take. The setting will be something simple as she's not yet of the age of big and bold!!! That will come in due time! I would appreciate your input and any other suggestions. Thank you. :)

Just went through this scenario not too long ago. Might be best to get vintage ring with the original stone. For that age group -- if yours is like mine -- you'll want a put-it-on-and-forget-it setting -- which means low-profile and very hard stone (sapphire is an excellent choice). The only "safe" place my far-away DD has is on her finger! In your budget, the cost of setting it might come close to the cost of the stone. I would look at Lang or Peter Suchy and see what vintage stuff catches your or her eye. I have no connection to either but they seem very legit. I have bought from both, but nothing high-end.

That said, I did make a ring for (well, with) another "young" family member and it was a blast designing it and seeing the wax model -- it may make the ring that much special or your daughter.

P.S. I really like that stone and it seems fairly priced (others here will know more). Same color as the one I used in the ring above -- a bit pale and "steely" but still very "gemmy" and crystalline-looking. Will look great with denim!

Thank you Lilalex and qubitasaurus. I'll continue to review the information you provided to me. I appreciate it.

Thank you for your help. Caysie Van Bebber was able to source a beautiful Ceylon blue sapphire for me at a very reasonable price. Now I will need to help my daughter with her first custom project! All of your information was very helpful for me and I did gain a bit of knowledge.

What a great choice in designer. I am sure the ring and stone will be amazing. :appl:
