Hi Hausee. The consensus on this forum seems to be either Diamond #1 or Diamond #E. If the Megascope numbers aren''t reliable, I don''t think you can go wrong with either one of those diamonds. Perhaps gtting a Sarin report instead would help?

It sounds like understanding the clarity on each one is important to you, so the magnified images and inclusion maps may help decide it for you. If you want us to take a look and give you an opinion, just post the links.

Not to confuse you, but here is one more from JA, found by doing a "Search by Cut" under Prices on the toolbar:

0.86 G VS2 Ideal EX/EX 1.2 HCA $3540 (PS Price)

The crown angle may be a bit high on this one, but it''s relatively large for the price: 6.11x6.16. There is also a crystal or something in the table, but I doubt you''d see it with the naked eye.

Hi hausee, you''re getting there!

Well, I can''t get the magnified image on E to open up, and we don''t have an IS on it, so it''s hard to compare. The numbers are nice, but I really like more to go on when choosing.

So, having said that, in comparing #1 with E, which is splitting hairs, both IS images are great. Gemex, if you put any stock in it (which I do a little), E is a bit higher in white light and color. They are the same size.

But, #1 is 855.30 more than E (going on bank wire prices). Even paying a 140.00 setting fee, E is still the better deal.

So, I vote E.

...Yeah, you know it's there!

Tough choices, my friend! That H SI-1 looks like a great find - it's seemingly clean, the cut looks nice, and the price is excellent!

So trade-offs again. With the JA stone, you can see the difference between the H&A of the other 2 stones versus the VG symmetry of this stone. The trade-off is size - it's definitely bigger. Which is more important to you - size or symmetry? I'm having a hard time justifying the extra $800 for Diamond #1 over the GOG diamond. The difference is the VS1 vs the SI-1 and G vs H, but how discernable are these differences REALLY?

I'm glad you aren't getting caught up in the emotion of more expensive is better! It sounds like you are being really smart about this choice - whatever you choose, I'm sure it'll be gorgeous! By the way, why wouldn't you just have the diamond vendor set the stone?

PS - I think I'm leaning toward the JA 0.87 carat right now. The light performance is Excellent and it sounds like size is more important to you. I don't think you can go wrong with VG/VG - it's still an Ideal cut stone. The G is a little whiter, you can feel confident about the VS2, and the price isn't that much more than the H SI-1. And did I say, it's BIGGER?

Hi Ellen;

I put E''s picture in previous post, you can go back to page one.

I will go check diamond vendor to see if they willing set the stone for free, even the setting is from other vendor.

thank you

I like the new stone from GOG. It''s H&A and cheaper. Color H is still white to me.

hausee, I was comparing #1 with GOG, not E, which I said mistakenly. Sorry!! And we still don''t have an IS on E, so, I don''t know what to say on it. Except, the GOG stone is still cheaper, and I really don''t think it would be better than the GOG stone.

So, I still vote GOG.

Sorry for my confusion.

Hi, guys, why not pick B? same size and price as GOG, better color and clarity. Is it because smaller table size?

thank you...

hausee, where did B come from?

Yes, I don''t like the table and besides, it''s still more than the GOG.

Listen, you are deciding between two excellent diamonds. Just pick one.

Not that I thought it wouldn''t be pretty.

All stones have light and dark areas. You want that, it means it will have good contrast/scintillation.

As far as sending the stones to Rockdoc, if you are apprehensive, or undecided, I think that''s a great idea. I will be very interested to hear his pic.

If I knew you decided on the GOG, I''d say personally, I wouldn''t think it''s necessary, but I''ve bought from them, and are familiar with the quality of their stones, so I''m comfortable saying that.

Hi Hausee. You may want to check out some of the discussion on The Fire Thread. There are some interesting pointers about taking photos of diamonds, what different background colors and levels of focus do to the diamond, etc. Some of the most glorious stones exhibit the same black spots in photos. No worries.
