This is my current set.

I will either be replicating the current ER except adding 6 prongs & a larger diamond OR having a new design altogether. The new design must have a RB centre stone & milgrain to match my wedding ring.

This is a design I like:

I'm open to ideas. What do you think I should do?

Hi @Happytobemrsg :)

I think the Brilliant Earth style you're interested in that you've posted above would be a far better match with your wedding ring than your current setting. I love that style of setting, and I love your wedding band, and I think they'd look beautiful together!

The one change I'd make would be to ask BE to milgrain around the small, round diamonds at the ends of the design, so it reflected the style of your wedding band. They'd then go together nicely, without being too matchy-matchy.

Good luck with your fun project!

That's exactly how I envisioned adding milgrain! Would the setting make the diamond appear smaller? My current setting tapers towards the stone which makes it look larger. I'd hate to buy a larger stone only for it to look smaller! My current stone is 0.33ct & I'm planning on getting 0.80ct

Hi @Happytobemrsg

Well, for a start, there's no chance of a .8 looking smaller than a .33 - so no matter WHAT you did, it's going to look substantially larger. As for the setting specifically making the stone look smaller - no, I don't think so. I think the setting you've chosen will actually extend the look of the stone, making 'the center part' of your ring - which subconsciously we deem 'the center stone' - appear substantially larger.

Halos, for instance, disguise the size of a center stone a great deal; a .8 and a 1ct stone in a halo would look more or less the same. So, you're adding a form of halo, which will make the edges of your stone harder for your eyes/brain to process. What your eyes WILL see is an overall larger center.

So all that to say - I think your ring will look more substantial right across the board. Get a well cut stone, and the effect will be even further pronounced. I suspect you're going to be blown away when you see your new ring and that it will look a LOT larger...but in a very, very good way. :)

I found some really beautiful design ideas that should make your wedding ring sing with joy, and make your diamond (regardless of size) POP!!!

Edit: these are just IDEAS. I'm not suggesting you use a vendor on Etsy, unless you decide that is what YOU want to do. I just wanted to show you these & get your opinion...

Thank you - I think I understand better how the overall look would be. More finger coverage essentially, just spread over a few stones.

You definitely get my style!! I also have a treated green diamond eternity ring which means the absolute world to me & that has milgrain too! I never envisioned getting a new engagement ring so this will absolutely be my forever ring so it's important I'm in love with the style. I love the ideas you have suggested, thank you

I don't suppose anyone has photoshop skills & could add milgrain to my Brilliant Earth example?

You're very welcome; your taste and mine are very similar. I love your wedding band. I have seen a band similar to it, and I just may ask DH for it, as a stack ring, in the future, for one of our anniversaries. I am a step-Cut lady, but I appreciate the marquise/Oval shapes for contrast. I believe anything similar to what I posted will compliment your band, beautifully!! Best wishes on your journey! I'm certain whatever you choose will be divine! ;)2
