Hello people. Yesterday nice thing has occured to me. While working in my garden (in Amsterdam), I have found a piece of stone, beautiful one. It was not deep in the soil, let say... 20-30cm. Now I am wondering wheather it is a gem or not. In fact, it doesn't change much to me - it is so precious and I intend to keep it even if it turns out to be the most rare ruby ever found. :D There are some photos of it. Any thoughts? p1040427.jpg

I can't wait to hear what it is.
Have you tried digging for more??

Hmmm... a little something from the House of Orange?

Seriously, my first thought is that it's more likely to be slag glass than a natural gemstone, simply because the color is so consistent throughout. But that's just a guess. About how large is the piece, and how much does it weigh?

:) I did't go for more. I have a garden there, with many many plants, so, no. :D
About the size... It weights 50g, 3cm long, 1.8cm wide, 1.5cm high... :/
To me it looks like a garnet, but still I wanted to check with you guys...

That's a sizeable piece, and the color certainly is stunning. Maybe a day trip to Antwerp is in order... :naughty:

Yes, maybe I should. I am a busy man :D , so, you know, I would not go to Antwerpen just to find out it is a piece of rock (which would not make it less precious in my eyes!!!) But if you are saying it worths, I will listen to you. :)

Is it possibly a piece of glass?

Thank you Karl!
