Help please! Is this a typical exclusion for an insurance rider for an e-ring??

Hi everyone -

Well, my insurance saga continues. Long story short I''m looking to acquire a policy with $60k coverage for an e-ring that I will be receiving in a couple of weeks. I cannot put a rider on my home owners policy because I live in Canada but will be getting the ring in the US and they will not put a rider on it without a Canadian appraisal. So, I''ve found another company here in Canada that will do it. The only stipulation in the coverage that I am wondering about is one that states:

"We do not insure any process of refinishing, repairing, or renovating."

Now this is a clause that I''ve come across in several policies, including Lloyd''s of London''s jewelry-specific policy. I asked what happens if your ring is being resized is having a prong repaired and something happens to it while it''s being worked on. The answer that I''ve received is that the jeweler should have insurance to cover this.

While that may be the case, what perplexes me is that Leon Mege, where my ring is currently being set, does not appear to carry this kind of insurance, although he is fully insured for fire / theft with Lloyd''s I believe. I would imagine that any work that would be done on my ring would be done by him.

Those of you who have insurance riders for jewelry - are you familiar with this disclaimer clause? Should I be worried about this at all??

Thank you!!

It seems NO ONE wants to cover the ring when its being set. My jeweler has no insurance to cover it when its being set and I haven''t found one that does.

YES!! This is the exact problem that I''m having... what do people do about this??

Um right now I''m praying to the diamond god that nothing happens while my jeweler is setting my e-ring THAT I HAVEN''T EVEN BEEN GIVEN YET!

It''s killing me... it really is. I was totally shocked when I found out about no one covering it.

If it is set at the same jeweler where you purchase the setting, is there a chance that they cover it then?

It's not being set at the same one I purchased the diamond because I'm getting a custom setting

I tried to give ERD the business for the custom setting but they just couldn't come close to the price I was getting with my local jeweler (which I didn't expect them too as she really hooks me up).

Bem- I wish I could help, but FF and I haven''t even begun looking into insurance... however, I''m thinking we might want to start, now that I''ve read your posting.
