Hello everyone after following PS for quite some time I think I have made myself educated but also indecisive. The community is great and offers so much knowledge. I initially tried to deal with local brick and mortar stores but they were not educated on ideal cut and inventories were small. I now feel like i know enough i can never tell if the diamond is sufficient.

Please let me know if i am allowed to ask for advise in this way, if not or if this will be counter productive to my search please let me know and ill take it down.

I am trying to decide on an engagement ring diamond. My initial thought was 1.7-2.1 G,H and I have now opened up to I. Clarity I am looking for Eye clean. My budget was $15k. I am looking for the best value on an engagement ring so paying for extra clarity (ie vvs1,vvs2) or super high color isn't where I have headed. (i know a lot of this is personal). I do plan to have this set in white gold or platinum. Possibly with pave on the band.

I have looked at some of the ideal vendors and am considering WF and HPD. I have also worked with other vendors recommended on here, thinking may by dollar would go further with a virtual inventory.

Now i have choices and can't decide.

I am currently deciding between:

WhiteFlash 1.75 H VS2 7.73 x7.69 ~$15.5k

WhiteFlash 1.562 H VS2 7.45 x 7.47 ~$13K

HPD 1.85 J VS1 7.87x7.91 ~$15k
I am slightly concerned about J color

HPD 1.68 H SI1 7.58x7.63 ~$14k
I am concerned about the inclusion though a video no magnified i couldn't see it. I have been told it is a clear crystal but the lighting highlights it.

On my own search I have found
~1.8 H VS2 7.86mm 1607991586218.png 1607990620944.png1607990653531.png for $15k
Which aset and ideal look good to me. I would post more but I believe stones get gobbled up.

~2.1 I vs2 8.16mm 1607991444073.png1607991387960.png for ~$15.5

A j super ideal is likely ok. And if you go with one of the vendors like HPD or Whiteflash, it’s an easy exchange if she wants a higher color.

This is my hpd/CBI K color 1.09 (though it is generally true you might see more color in a larger stone. But I’m also not telling you to get a K)

Great thing about super-ideal diamonds is that they hide color. The edge-to-edge fire and sparkle is what distracts from the color itself. If you are not too color-sensitive, the J one from HPD looks stunning! I had a G colored one from James Allen, took it to David Klass and he said it faces up like an I. The cut was not that great (even though the aset was good). Then I got an HPD stone (2+ct) in an H color and it faces up very white. Give Wink (HPD guy) a call and ask him what he thinks of that J stone, or have him compare it to an I...etc. He is honest and will tell you what he sees.

I know how you feel!!! I think most of us have the same struggles choosing which one to get. I do! My DH told me to just pick one and get over it, he feel I’m wasting too much time on this.
I agree with @daisygrl and @whitewave
The J from CBI looks good.
I’m still waiting for my J too, I don’t know how it would turn out. My lowest diamond so far is a G, but they’re smaller. looking a lot of pictures in this forum encourage me to give J a try because some J appears whiter too, it wouldn’t be as white as a F for sure, but it might not be as bad as I thought, I guess we need to see it in real life to find out.

Thank your for the picture your ring is beautiful,I don’t see any tint in your K color. Out of curiosity if you compare to higher colors does it appear as white? I am wondering if without a reference for comparison color is a non issue?

Living in a Covid virtual world color has became one of the hardest things to determine

I am not sure if it is a concern but do you pick up tint from the side ever? I assume most rings get dirty after wear so perhaps a D even looks tinted with dirt.

I also really like that WF Expert Selection H you posted, if the J from HPD is too tinted for you.

I personally would not drop down to a J in a large stone if you can get relatively close, size-wise, in a higher color. I have a Super Ideal
J in a 1.14 and yes, at times, I see all of its J glory. At most other times it just looks white. Luckily I dont mind the tint when I do see it but if
you dont want to see tint, go with a higher color.

I would go with the 1.75, or the 1.68 (if eye-clean to your standards).

I would want to see the reports on the other two stones you found (even though their images look good). Can you post them?

Ditto this. This would be my preference as well. If the J was SO much bigger, maybe...but for me personally, would not be enough of a size jump to warrant drop in color. I also personally would not get a J, but I am very color sensitive

I think the Expert Selection would be my favorite of all of them given that it is still a nice high color, nice size, and nice clarity. win all around

The report for the bottom one is

I’ll try to find the other report.

Thanks for the reply.

My choice would be either the Whiteflash Expert Selection H or the CBI H. Both are beautiful and should be very white.

The numbers look good on that "I". Let me see if we can get @flyingpig to take a closer look.

You'll find a lot of Super Ideal fans around here due to the quality of the cut and their trade-up policies.

I think these stones are all reasonable options and priced according to their cut quality, 3Cs and vendors' service offering.

Regarding the 2.1 I, this is in a completely different category from others.

@flyingpig i am guessing the 2.11 is in a better category given size and price? Do the faint green arrows in the center raise a concern? Again I am not looking for perfect but best bang for my buck.

I think he is saying with respect to NOT being a Super Ideal cut stone but we'll see what he has to say.

The 2.1 I has some digging around the edges, but overall is a solid "A". Moreover, well cut diamonds become increasely rarer when you go above 2.0c. Maybe in the world of 2.0c+ in the virtual inventory, the 2.1 I is a "A+".

My pick would be WF H 1.75 or the 2.1 I.
WF has tighten the quality control for their Expert Selects without increasing the price significantly for the last 4 yrs.

It is a tough one

I believe HPD is in the process of getting stones sent back from Antwerp and will have additional inventory soon. you could always ask HPD if they have any H/I SI1/2 diamonds expected in inventory soon.. helps with the budget to go Si with a super ideal vendorand perhaps you can get towards the bigger half of your desired ct. weight.

HPD also has a 1.65 H Si1 in stock, perhaps you can get an info about when those pictures/videos will be ready. You might like the cut of that better than the other HPD stone you posted.

I would go with the H, SI stone from HPD. That color and clarity combo is my sweet spot, plus it’s guaranteed to be extra sparkly since it’s a super ideal cut. I had a J super ideal stone that was about 2.5 carats that I traded in because the tint was too much for me.

Looks like Wink posted a video of the 1.65 H SI1 on his YouTube a month ago. In the video he shows that the diamond is eye clean.

See if this link works:
