Help with cheap quick post stone for silver smithing class....

Good evening,

I am starting another silver smithing class in a fortnight. I am a member of a Lapiday club & can cut my own cabs (locally fossicked stones), but I don’t have anything cut or rough to do. I honestly don’t have the time to do one before it starts.

I like large stones... not fussy on what type, colour etc as long as above 7 on Mohs.

Will only be set in sterling.

Any suggestions...

I live in Australia & would need something quick.

Anything under $100 AU. Cheaper the better as I am learning.

Quartz Family. generally those will be cheap and about a 7 on the Mohs scale. Amethyst, white quartz, rose quartz, citrine.

Topaz is an 8 but go cheap and get blue.
