Hello my friends,
I need help with setting my aquamarine. I'm a novice in the custom setting arena and I have myself so tangled up it's not funny. Well, it is kinda funny...:boohoo: My problem is I like to design by consensus and all of my IRL friends would be super helpful picking out the paint for the bathroom but when I ask about the basket on a ring their eyes glaze over.

So, I have this Aqua:

It reminds me of a cool glass of water or a running stream. I am head over heels for this one. I sent it to DK without even getting a drawing because I wanted to force myself to set it instead of gawking at it for a year. I emailed him and said I liked the shoulders on this ring:tsav inspiration5.jpg and sent another random picture because I just liked the idea of it:inspiration pic10_files.jpg

So, after a few back and forths, and telling him I liked the running water theme, this is what I got:David Klass Aqua CAD.jpg

The purple part will have diamonds. It will be made in 18k yellow gold to accentuate to the green in the stone.
And finally here I am with my questions. Will this be a nice design? Should I add anything or take away anything? I don't want it to look silly. All comments are welcome and I want to thank all of you in advance for your super helpful ideas.

Suzanne

Can he make the donut smaller? It seems pretty large, though if you're wearing it as a stand alone ring it probably won't matter.

The purple part is pretty. Very fluid and I think it works with the theme quite nicely. :D

Do you mean the ring on the shoulder? The one below the fleur dis lis?

What does the gallery look like from below? Just rectangular and open and in platinum? I would not want anything to compete with the cool incising on the pavilion! 30 g of metal -- that will be a heavy ring, even without the stone!

Thanks Elle, I'll ask him to make the donut smaller. I will be wearing it as a stand alone ring...I don't think I could fit anything else on my finger.

That's a good question. I don't know what the bottom of the gallery looks like. I'm assuming it's open like you said. Wouldn't he have included a picture if there was something there?

He mentioned in one of the first emails to ignore all of the different metals and that it would be solid 18k yellow gold. I'm glad you pointed out the weight. I was too frazzled to read all the small print but I can't imagine it will weigh 30 grams. I weighed the heaviest ring I own - a honker tourmaline - and it was only 12 grams. At 30 grams plus stone I don't think I'd be able to pick up my hand...

Please post the finished ring. The stone is beautiful.

I just saw this on David Klass instagram! It is stunning!!!!!!!!!

All I can say is, "OOOHHHHHH!" while drooling. LOVE it!

WOW. I love how fluid the whole ring I'd designed to go with the stone. It conveys so much movement and elegance, while keeping the whole architecture simple!

Iovely and unique! Love the touch of modernist abstraction of the sense of water. Congratulations!
