Help with Jeweller??

Could anybody suggest a trustable jeweller in th NYC area who would be able to remove stamp(deep engraving) from the inside of 14K solitaire ring with sidestones? The ring has a 2ct princess diamond on it too. Please help! Thanks

I would like to have a clean polished look with something that I prefer engraved in there ... Just a personal preference...

The best way to remove engraving work is though a laser machine. What a jeweler will do is apply the laser along with the metal and actually add metal into the area, rather than wipe away existing metal, thereby preserving the strength and integrity of the piece, and allowing a clean slate for fresh engraving. Although I am unaware of independent bench jewelers in NYC, the key in your research will be to ensure that they have a laser machine. You don''t necessarily need the jewelry portion and the engraving portion done by the same person. Often, someone well versed in jewelry work is not so well versed in engraving and vice versa. If it were me, I would have an expert lasersmith clean up the ring, and then go to an expert engraving specialist to do the engraving. If you go to a jewelry store, often they will use an in-house bench jeweler to do the laser work, if they have it, and often they will contract out to an engraver if they do not have a hand engraver in house.
