Hi guys

I am designing a new ring for myself. 1.5ct emerald cut sapphire, bezel set but offset from the side of the band, in gold with black matte rhodium plating.

Now, I want to know if I should have a band of micro prong sapphires going down the middle of the band (see photos) or random size sapphires flush set in the band.

What do you think?

That will be unique! :)

I think it's entirely personal preference - do you prefer geometric designs or a sense of randomness?

Personally I like both, but to my taste, the line version doesn't have enough variation to maintain visual interest over time, so I'd choose the random version :)

+1 for the random design

I support the random design. You are aiming for a fully different ring so go the whole hog!

Thanks guys.

My gut was the random design. The line is just too ‘ordinary’ and I am aiming at a very contemporary and unique ring to add to my collection!

Does anyone else have any unusual designed rings in their collection? I love the work of Glenn Spiro and Theodoros jewellers.

I think @gregchang35 has some custom designed jewellery, IIRC :)

My wedding ring is Damascus Steel - not necessarily that unusual but a little bit different :)

I love Damascus steel.

Yeah, I am very familiar with Greg Chang’s rings. I love it when guys go for something different to the norm. Just because you are a guy doesn’t mean you can’t wear amazing jewellery!

I like the random...unique and interesting...post pics when its done!

Next dilemma- should I have the large sapphire bezel or claw set?

Thoughts please.

Bezel set main stone in that position. I'd personally do rectangular french cuts or baguettes in the band! I don't love the random size rounds with the emerald cut sapphire.

(Incidentally, this thread goes in Rocky Talky as that is where we discuss stones and settings.)

As in, east-west or north-south setting?

.

Perhaps a simple band ?

A band of blue would be elegant, methinks (dito @diamondseeker2006 ) & your dots are fun !

... the design reminds me this www (nb. connecting bezel & band ...) & some other Taffin with stones set off one side of the band - none very close, however

Hi

I was inspired by a few Taffin and Glenn Spiro designs actually - I love their originality and lack of conformity.

+1 for bezel set :)

Thanks guys!
