Sooo I would love some advice on a project I am considering. I want a RHR, and I am actually going to make it with a local jeweler who is giving me lessons. I want something rose gold, and set east-west. Oval, or preferably marquise. I am thinking pink tourmaline or amethyst. Any thoughts? I do not want to spend much (since I am new at this and it could turn out horribly!). Would amethyst look ok in rose gold? Or do I need something pale, pale pink? I am new to the colored stones arena, so thanks in advance!

I think pink would go better in rose gold. I''ve seen pink amethyst lately, and tourmaline or morganite would be pretty also. I can''t wait to see how it turns out!

Pink tourmaline with rose gold and amethyst with yellow gold.

Thanks! Any idea where to look for a pink tourmaline marquise? I tried AJS...

What about Morganite? I like that color, would it be easier to find? I may just go the amethyst route, as I found the perfect one already.

Marquises are generally harder to find, whatever gemstone type it may be. Ovals are much easier to find, be it morganite, amethyst or pink tourmalines.

Thanks Chrono, that multicolour site is perfect! Tons of stuff, now I just have to choose. Have you bought from them?

I think a morganite marquise set east-west would be lovely. I love morganites as I just set one myself

I recently saw a 3 carat morganite marquise--I''m going to try to find it for ya!--

are you planning to use 18K or 14K rose/pink/red gold? warning: i''ve seen 14K rose/pink/red gold with a pink stone and the effect was overwhelmingly pink to the point that it was bold and in your face. much will depend on the size of the stone as well as its color [bright, faint, etc]. what look are you going for? something bold and modern? subtle and feminine? sounds like a fun project! have fun!

ps 18k pink/rose/red gold is much more subtle........

Er, I have to ask; will you be wearing this RHR on a daily basis? I have a small diamond and rose gold RHR, which I wear all the time, and I''ve been surprised at how often it gets bashed around.

May I suggest pink sapphire? Pink sapphire is more durable than both morganite and tourmaline. And there are some very pretty pink sapphires available between $100 and $300. The Natural Sapphire Company has 15 stones in that price range right now - some close to a carat in weight.

Well, I think I have decided on an amethyst. Although, I cannot find the right one just yet. The one I saw earlier was too big! Guess I will keep looking! It will be set in silver for awhile (gold prices, ya know) and then rose gold. I have an amethyst and rose gold ring, I realized, and I love the combo. I believe it is 18k as it is not super pink. As far as wear, I do not really see it being an everyday piece. Any other sites I should check? Everything is HUGE and since it is east/west, I am looking for something in the ~12mm range. I am doing an etienne perret-ish bezel/halo. Yummmmm.

i''m a big fan of 18k red/rose/pink gold.........good luck with your project.

How about a lavender spinel? A rose quartz?

Miscka, I''ve bought from Multicolour twice. I''m happy with my purchase and returned one stone because I didn''t like the window. Very easy to deal and they answered all my questions promptly. The only downside is their giant database of gemstones that takes forever to go through to pick out what looks nice.
