Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting a rainbow moonstone for a pendant to honor my beloved dog who has crossed over to the rainbow bridge.

I'd really like a heart shape, who would be the best to reach out to? I was thinking Sally HOW, but I'm open to other suggestions or thoughts. TIA!

I'm so sorry to hear about your beloved poochie, @StephanieLynn. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm in tears thinking about how difficult this must have been for you. I hope you feel peace and acceptance in knowing that your beloved pet is in a better place where there is no suffering. Hugs...

If you have no luck with a heart moonstone, I have a lovely Citrine you are most welcome to.
Perhaps to represent the sunshine that she brought to your life.
Hugs and more hugs (heavens, I’m crying here)

Thanks @natasha-cupcake, it is so hard and although I know we made the right decision, it doesn't make it any easier.

@Bron357 thank you so much, you are too sweet and that is a lovely citrine. I will definitely let you know if the moonstone doesn't come through, I'm not seeing a lot of heart shape moonstone so not sure if they are just not popular or not easy to cut in that shape.

Thank you @Austina, I'll have to check them out. I don't have a specific size in mind yet just trying to find sources.

@stracci2000 I love that ring, so pretty! I wish moonstones were harder, that's why I was thinking necklace because it would get banged around less. That ring would actually make a pretty pendant :kiss2:

OK, @StephanieLynn, so I finally figured out what HOW is.....
And I went to the etsy page---this stuff is great! The styles are right up my alley. I may have to take some inspiration from these designs!

I hope Sally can create the perfect pendant to honor precious Fiona.

@stracci2000 and she is the nicest person ever too, she is the first person that came to mind since I don't want something mass produced and can't find exactly what I want in vintage.

Did you see those little eggs she does in 18k? Love those!

Sally is amazing and will definitely be able to make you something to honor Fiona. I hope you keep us posted as the project moves forward!

@StephanieLynn I know you just started looking at moonstones so I wouldn't give up on that yet. But I saw this pic and thought it might be nice for you to keep it in the back of your mind.

It'd still have a heart-motif but you'd have more flexibility with the center stone. Plus, I think if you end up going with Sally, her hand-forged metalwork could really elevate this design.

@AnastasiaBeaverhausen, I like that a lot but you know I absolutely love your avatar, gorgeous ring you have there, do you have a thread about it? If not you should make one!

You are totally right that Sally could bring this design to life, thanks for suggesting it.

Thanks for the compliment! I didn't start a thread on the ring in my avatar, just posted a few pics on the Fabulous CS Rings Under $1250 thread. I'm going to attempt to link to the post in case you'd like to see the pics...*fingers crossed* Fabulous CS rings under 1250 dollar!!

I LOVE her eggs - they are the perfect embodiment of essence, imo. It would be a great way to honor Fiona, especially as a pendant worn close to your heart.

@AnastasiaBeaverhausen, that is an amazing stone you found in LT, I really love the color of that sapphire!

@minousbijoux, I was considering getting an egg to honor Fiona but what I really want is a totally unique creation. They are in my wish list though!

Thanks @icy_jade, they are on Etsy too I believe, I love that faceted moonstone in the ring there, so pretty!

Oh, okay. Sometimes I'm a little slow to get it...:lol-2: I'm sure whatever you design will be beautiful and a fitting tribute.

No worries @minousbijoux, I'm a bit of a scatter brain lately but I appreciate all suggestions or ideas!

Sorry for your loss Stephanielynn! Every piece I have from Sally (Heart of Water) s so full of soul. She has rescued MANY dogs and is a fellow dog lover. Giving my Chihuahuas huge hugs for you and they are giving you kisses back!

Sally sent me these moonstones to look at, right off the bat I love the cabs on the right both top and bottom, she said she can work with these to make a heart shape (doing some fancy work with the gold because the moonstone is so soft).

What do you guys think? Which would you pick?

I like the ones you chose too. I think I've seen 1 or 2 faceted moonstones that I liked. I think faceting changes the personality of the stone too much and mucks up the adularescence.

Thanks @Matata, moonstones are really new to me so I appreciate the feedback. As of now I'm thinking a moonstone with an accent stone or stones set into the bale in a lavender color, kind of a peaceful, dreamy feeling is what I'm going for. Totally agree too about the cabs vs faceted, both are pretty but the glow on the cabs is just amazing.

I've always loved moonstone @StephanieLynn. It has a liquidy soothing quality to me that makes me want to dive into the stone. I have a 3 carat that I bought a few years ago (can't remember who I bought it from ) that I wanted to set into a pendant. I originally thought to halo it with diamonds set in black metal, then thought about using blue zircons, then thought about just setting it alone. One of these days I'll make a decision. Here's mine (sorry if I'm threadjacking)

Not threadjacking at all, that one is gorgeous! Do they call that one a blue sheen @Matata?

I've never been much of a cab person but moonstone is changing my mind! Your idea about black metal in a halo of diamonds sounds amazing, of course whatever you decide down the line I'm sure will be fabulous!

Do they call that one a blue sheen
I thought all moonstone had the blue sheen and the intensity of it is what sets its value. I thought you might be interested in this https://www.gia.edu/moonstone-description Rainbow moonstone is not really moonstone, it's labradorite. Here's the snippet from the llink:

Other feldspar minerals can also show adularescence. One is a labradorite feldspar found mainly in Labrador, Canada. Another labradorite—found in Madagascar—has a multicolored adularescence over a light bodycolor. It’s known in the trade as rainbow moonstone, despite the fact that it’s actually a variety of labradorite rather than orthoclase.

Ah okay, I have some reading to do clearly as I'm all mixed up thanks @Matata!

Thanks to your post Matata, I sent Sally a message to make sure those cabs are orthoclase since I was using the wrong terminology.
