Help With Ring :-)

By definition, anyone that sells directly to the consumer is a retailer.

Do they offer upgrades on their stones? Many PS vendors (including GOG) do... if you think she might want to upgrade, that would be a consideration for me. Of course, you are getting a custom setting for quite a bit of money, so chosing the right size out the gate might be smart.

What are the G's measurements? Length and width?

I dont know if they offer upgrades or not but I am assuming they don't. Not sure my GF will want to upgrade in the future, I think we both feel this is such a sentimental piece that its something that should not be changed.

Shape and cutting style: Old mind brilliant
Measurements: 6.81x 6.75 x 4.5mm
Table: 56%
Depth: 66.7%

hi somethingclassic,

on a 5.5 finger, i think a 2.4 ct will look great. it will definitely have presence, but if she doesn't like to draw attention to her jewellery at all, it may be a tad too much.

i personally like the look of a 2.5 ct on my size 5 finger ;))

I have attached some photo's of the stones I saw on Friday. The first is the J and the second shows the J, F, and G stones together. I used my phone so the quality isnt great but these were really nice in person.

You can tell the J is a little warmer in the pics but it was not as warm in person as it is in these photo's.

If you don't know for sure that she likes warmer colored stones, I would go with the G. If she doesn't like the warmth, to her eyes she may think that the stone is yellowish or off color and that may bother her. Especially with a bigger stone - the warmth will show even more. The G is a lovely stone and size as well and it is sure to face up white.

I personally love warm stones, but they are not for everyone.

If you can see the inclusion in the F I would move on from that one (if you can see it now, you and/or she may obsess over it late once you own it).

I just found a 2.3 ct I that faces up white - thoughts?

How was the I-color diamond cut? What's the clarity? Is it in your budget? Dimensions?

Hi, I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I saw the same F VS2 1.65 cushion with Perry and I am seriously considering it. However, I don't see any inclusions- I thought you couldn't see anything with VS2?

Here's a video- does anyone see anything?

It was hard to find but in certain light the reflection in the middle showed a dark spot - it is a great stone though.

Well I think I am going with the J since the above poster seems to have purchased the F - nice stone, it actually was my favorite of the three.

My girlfriend says she is not particular about the color and just wants something that I like and think she will adore. She does prefer a vintage look, so I think the J will be pretty nice.

If she's not opposed to color, I'd reconsider that yummy AVC you were looking at!

Sorry to go MIA in your thread, I avoid commenting on any Leon stones, I love his settings, but I personally wouldn't buy my stone from him for personal reasons. But his settings are hard to match (although there are a few who can) so if I ever were to use him, I'd buy the stone from a different vendor and use him just for the setting. To each their own though because he's sourced some nice stones!

I think it was this one?

I'm sorry you didn't get the other stone you were considering :( Thats what happens on sometimes though ;(

Out of curiosity - why not use Leon?

I like the K but I also really like the J stone.

Something Classic, I saw that J stone as well. It's pretty impressive, and such a good deal for the size and quality. I know its hard to choose carat over color, and I did consider that. I personally wasn't comfortable with going with a J for the type of setting I'm going to use, but I've seen tons of beautiful ones from pictures here and elsewhere online, and that size is hard to pass up! If you feel your girlfriend will like the color, you should go for it! :)

Though they are there, it's a lot more difficult to see the inclusions with the naked eye once you hit the VS mark. However, the labs grade everything from the top down, so usually, if it were to occur, one will be able to see something from the side. Then of course, there are those eagle eyes (myself included urgghh) that can spot anything from a mile away!!!!

I think the J is good for the setting I picked out. If you don't mind, what setting did you choose? Also, who did you use to get the stone appraised? I would like to get the J appraised before closing the deal - I am assuming that is important to do before it is set.

Something Classic:
The reason's I wouldn't use Leon are many, but just because I don't want to deal with him. There have been many threads on the subject, but mostly because he usually treats (I say said usually because it's not every time) the clients who buy the stone and setting from him better than those who bought the stone else where. He used to not give boxes (he sent a 4ct cushion in bubble wrap and that was NOT a cheap setting) to those who didn't get their stones from him, he prefers to work with men over women, and frankly, if I can buy the stone (just as beautiful) else where, i'd prefer to put money into the hands of what I consider, good people all around (like Jonathan at GOG, Brian, etc) and not just someone who's good at what they "create."
I want the ENTIRE experience to be heart warming, and I feel like for a lot of buyers, their experience with Leon has been less than fulfilling. His work on settings is hard to match though (although I think Brian and I'd consider using Ari at Singlestone would come close) and so I just would want to put "as little" money in his pocket as possible, while still getting what I want. But that's JUST ME though. Lots of people have had great experiences with Leon, but for me, after watching more than one devout Leon users say they'll never work with him again...that's why I would only use him for the setting and not the stone. But if he's got a good deal on a stone you love, go for it. Like I said, this is just me personally. Not that I can even afford to work with Leon, but I have a hard time putting the bread into someones mouth after seeing how's he's treated some of his clients. But if he's got the whole package right there for you, you'll be fine!

SomethingClassic, I'm going with a micropave halo and band, which would have only colorless stones, and I didn't want there to be a noticeable color difference between the center stone and the surrounding stones.

I used David Wolf, he was great!

So are you definitely going with the F?

Yes I am, I made my decision today, and I'm so happy to be done with my search. I feel peaceful :)
I wish you the same feeling very very soon!

Yeah I am not sure about the J, it is a little big. I might wait it out and continue searching.

So I took my GF in to see the stone and to have it appraised - she loves the size and the color so I think the J will be it.

The appraisal said it was more of a K color but I think we are getting a decent price on it. The clarity was also rated slightly higher than the certificate SI1 (on the edge os SI1/VS2).

For the antique look I think this is the right choice :-D

Ok - I have the stone and setting picked out. What else do I need to know about working with Leon and customizing the ring?

Any suggestions/recommendations? I am going with the r1060 solitaire look - I really liked the engraved detail.
