Currently in the process of looking for an engagement ring and have come very close to purchasing a shapphire and diamond antique ring (image below).
I'm in love with the overall design and colour of the sapphire, just slightly concerned about quality.
It comes with a CGL certificate which states it is 2.36cts, royal blue colour and 7.99 x 7.30 x 4.01.
My main concern is what I think is a quite obvious window - maybe not from head on but with slight tilting.
Metal is 18kt gold and diamonds are 0.3 carats of good quality. It is for sale for £1700.
Any advice/opinions would be really appreciated.
Thanks!img_2777_0.jpg

It's really pretty, but I think, in time, the window will really bother you. You can always have a ring made like that and pick out the sapphire yourself

Thank you for your reply Gem Queen.
Can you see the window from the picture then?
How about overall value for money? Thanks again

Seeing the band through the stone would drive me nuts.

Thanks for your input pregcurious :-)

In my opinion, it's not a good value if you're not happy with it. I call it throwing good money away, because then you're on the hunt for something better. You end up going out and buying something else and end up spending double the amount of money than if you had waited. Take your time and look around. Something better always pops up.

I think you'll be able to find something better, and that the window will end up driving you crazy! I know from experience (unfortunately), that if something bothers you in the beginning, it will drive you INSANE very soon after. We are happy to look for you if you can tell us more about what you're looking for :)

Tilted? Cut gemstones, even a well-cut one, will usually have a window in some angle. The stone is meant to be viewed face up.

Thanks so much for all your input.
I'm completely new to all this so it's a bit of a mine field....I'm aware that some window at an angle is very common,
I'm just trying to ascertain what is normal and what is an extreme example.
Thanks again

The picture isn't clear enough for me to tell anything about the cut but I see an X spanning across the stone. Is that prominent in person?
