Help with setting purple spinel

I acquired this purple spinel on DB a while back--I love the color and the shape! The seller said that it's a recut of a large oval by Jerry Newman, and Newman calls the shape "Noel Oval." It's 1.55ct, 8.8 x 6.7. But I'm not sure what to do with it. A RHR, I think... but how to set this shape? I'm thinking high karat YG. Maybe set EW? What do all you experts think? Thanks!

Buttery yellow gold would look great with that color gem. The shape is ideal for setting using a large chevron on each end of the stone with the middle open. Sort of a semi-bezel, "growing" out of chathedral shoulders, perhaps with diamond melee in the chevrons to accent the shape.

Looks like an almost perfect match.

I think yellow gold will look best for this spinel. As for the style, I think this can fit into an oval or fat marquise setting.

So diamonds or not?

If you did the chevron tips Michael suggested they could be diamond set - either N-S or E-W. Imagine the halo below without the sides. and the green one with chevron top and bottom.

Thanks, everyone! I actually rather like the zircon three stone idea... and I am certainly not opposed to diamonds. I wonder if it would be possible to have a micropave halo that followed the contours of the stone made. I would like to emphasize that it's not just your ordinary oval, though, so I don't want a halo to "soften" the points. It seems like the diamond chevrons might be the best way to show off the shape! Hmm, I'm not sure I'm in any better shape now, though. Too many options!

I would do something like this if it was in budget. I like how the bezel emphasizes the shape yet the halo smooths it to make it a bit more everyday.
