Hi, everyone. This is my first post on these forums, but I''ve been lurking for a few weeks. I need some information and tips on South Sea pearl pricing and quality.

I am getting married in October and my fiance commissioned a jeweler to make me pearl earrings for our wedding day. We will need to supply the jeweler with loose pearls for the earrings. Are there any reputable online retailers who sell loose South Sea pearls? Also, are there any general guidelines on pearl pricing? We are looking to get good quality pearls, but would obviously not want to pay more than they are worth. We both know very little about pearls and pricing, so any help would be appreciated!

go to the future fashionista website. Elana sells loose SS pearls and if you don''t see any on her website...she can steer you in the right direction. She is also have a 30% off sale for her 10th Anniversary. The coupon code at checkout is 10th. Many of us on PS have purchased from her (I just received my 2nd strand today!) and are beyond pleased. Her prices are great and she works within your budget not to mention the pearls are gorgeous that many of us come back for more!!

The larger, rounder, cleaner the pearl (as well as luster) will obviously cost more. Try PearlParadise.com or futurefashionista

Why not ask your jeweler to call some in you can at least look at some to get an idea of what you want.. There''s no reason why he can''t, especially since he''s making the earrings. I did that when I had my tahitian studs made.

Thank you for suggestions, everyone! Elle_chris, I would do that, except my jeweler is in New York and I''m in Seattle. He has done a number of pieces for me in the past and he''s doing my engagement ring, so I''m very familiar with his work and would like to have him do my earrings as well. His work is stunning, but distance prevents me from seeing pearls at his studio.

I will check out both PearlParadise and Futurefashionista. My fiance actually proposed with a natural pearl ring he bought from PearlParadise, since we both wanted to have my engagement ring made by the jeweler I mentioned.
