Here are my save-the-dates

Hi ladies,

Well my FI & I finished our save-the-dates for our beach wedding in Jamaica. They''ll be a surprise to most of our friends & family--I hope they go over well! (I think my traditional mom might have a coronary!

)

We went to the dollar store & bought lots of pairs of flip-flops (actual shoes), then designed the text with our message, printed it up on colored paper, cut it out w/ these wavy-edged scissors & glued it onto the shoes.

For our envelopes, we color copied a picture of Negril''s 7 mile beach onto the envelope. I''m really pleased with how they turned out!

Silly, but cute. We did them in several colors--here''s the purple one.

Sorry the design is asymmetrical on the picture below--we photoshopped out our last names.

That''s a really cute and unique idea. I was also wondering about mailing them. How many are you sending out? Hopefully not too many.

Hey everyone,

Thanks so much for the compliments! I'm really tickled w/ how they turned out. I know they're silly, but I do think they set the tone nicely for the event...fun, casual, & festive. We're hoping they don't wind up looking TOO slick (like junk mail), but I think the fact that the envelopes are kind of pouffy will set them apart as something interesting. I can't wait to see our guests' reaction!

We initially bought 30 pairs of flip-flops (totalling 60 invites), but then the guest list got bigger (Mom...

) so we had to hit the dollar store again last weekend to clear out their final 7 pairs. So we could send up to 74 STDs. It's a nice way of limiting the guest list!

As for the cost to mail them, it's roughly $1 each. (it varies a bit w/ the individual flip-flops' size/weight) I know this has turned out to be a much more expensive undertaking than the magnets we were also considering, but hopefully our guests will appreciate it & be amused. I know we had a blast making them!

Thanks, ginger. I know the magnets would''ve been a more functional, lasting reminder of our date & wedding plans, but I just couldn''t resist the lunacy of sending a shoe in the mail!
