Well I posted this long post about whether I should take a break from my jewelry gem obsession to pay off our new windows. Everyone was good, saying yes I should take a break. But I was bad

I really really wanted some kind of sapphire jewelry to commemorate both my and my youngest daughter''s (soon to be 1 year old!) birthdays. I was thinking of buying a loose blue sapphire, to be set into a ring.
But to tell you the truth other than my wedding band and my anniversary ring, I am not in the habit to wear rings.
On the other hand I really get a charge out of my earrings, picking out what to wear with what outfit, etc.
So I started looking at sapphires.

Does your husband know that you''ve started looking? You little devil you... I think Sapphires can be very beautiful, good luck!

I''ve made my decision, i''ve picked out 2 to make into earrings. Can you guess which 2?

I guess bottom right two stones! Where did you find these...I love the color. I want/must buy another stone now that I''ve gotten my feet wet.

Here''s another shot of the usual suspects. Any more guesses? (there''s no wrong answer, I think they are all beautiful!)

In case there was any suspense to break

, I picked the smaller pair on the left. They are 4.6 mm and Australian in origin. I''m not one to wear the same earrings all the time so these will be a nice smaller pair to wear with my navy clothes and also with jeans.

I''ll try to post pics when they are set!

Love the color!!! I''ll take all of them. I can''t wait to see ear shots when they are completed!

What a tough decision--they are all lovely! Looking forward to seeing them set!

What a beautiful blue color...
I''d want them all!!

I would have never guessed they are Australian sapphires. Great pick, PG!

Before seeing your admission I''d have guessed the bottom left pair. You chose some gorgeous stones!!

Thanks for the compliments! I''m going to have them set in 3 prong yellow gold settings, and should get them next week. They will be petite. Australian sapphires have a reputation for being overdark, but I liked how this batch looked, going to give them a chance.

Congratulations! Hope you love them. They look like a great color, not too dark. I look forward to seeing photos of them set.

Oooh, beautiful sapphires. I can''t wait to see your earrings.

Hey! I got my earrings! My first thought when I got them was, they are too dark. I think I am a little color blind in the sense it is hard for me to tell navy from black. But I wore them to lunch and both ladies there complimented them and said they actually prefer the darker color sapphires. My husband likes them too.
I guess I would best describe them as "blueberry" colored, deep purplish/grayish blue, even with a trace of green if that makes any sense. They are never a bright blue, but a deep blue, but have lighter sparkles of more intense "true" blue when you turn them.
I love the settings. They are a substantial 14k gold 3 prong setting. They feel great on.
Attached is a pic that the jeweler took, but it's a fair representation of them in brighter light.
I don't have a digital camera. But if I can borrow someone else's digital camera I will take ear pics later on.

Thanks! They are untreated Australian "reddestone" sapphires. I just have to warn you they are more that deep "blueberry" color -that's the best way to describe them, not the bright ceylon color. But I like them. Though they are not the ideal benchstone sapphire color I like how they are not opaque.
