Do you ever make it out to the local galleries? You MUST go to the Foundry (10th and R) sometime to see John Battenberg's incredible koi paintings! He starts with a gold gilt base and then uses a layered technique -- layers of paint separated by a thin layer of clear resin - that really adds dimension to each piece. Oh, and did I mention that his subject is koi?
The show runs through the end of December. I don't think he's a local artist, so you might not have another chance to see his work here in Sacto.
