Wow, this is like the perfect site and thread for me. I am so excited to have found a great message board to occupy my time and anxiety! My name is Katie. I am a teacher so I have plenty of time to occupy this summer. My bf and I have been together for 2.5 years. It is supposed to happen this summer..we are looking at houses and not to pressure him, but I won''t buy or move in until I have a ring. So that has taken some of the romance out of it, but he says he wants it to be a surprise and special, and that it is supposedly coming soon. He wanted pictures of what I wanted. I always thought I a marquise cut...but I went to the store to try them on and they just didn''t look good on my hand. So then I tried on a princess cut and I fell in love with that cut. I want a white gold wider band setting, with probably a 0.75 solataire princess. He said he wishes I didn''t want a solataire (so he could get more tcw) but tis what I want I hope I will get. He wants me to actually go to the stores to look for them this week some time. Anyways I will just die if I don''t have a ring on my finger by the time the first day of school rolls around (because everyone will be looking for it).

Anyways, just wanted to say hello and I think this will be a great place for me to hang out!

Whaaa! Frustrated. Dbf called to say that he has to work late so we can''t go look @ rings today

I am sad...I was so looking forward to doing this today. We are not sure where we want to buy...B&M or online but we are going to look@ Jared''s today so he could get an idea of what I wanted.

be careful with Jared''s--- they are very expensive compared to what you can get online at a reputable vendor like Whiteflash, GOG, exceldiamonds, etc. I looked at stud earrings and they wanted over 2x the price of stud earrings at online stores.
BTW, I am a teacher too! what grade do you teach and where? I am a music/orchestra teacher in Hillsborough county, (tampa) FL!

I know...I''ve been to a few stores to look around...I was so not into diamonds before I found this site and started to get educated. I want to show him what I want and how much it is @ Jared''s and then show him and have him read things from goodoldgold and whiteflash. I looked at a pretty big non-chain store here too, and they were pretty high though. I think he wants to finance it but he can probably save over 1000 dollars plus incidental charges by going online. He just isin''t comfortable with that, but I think just getting him looking @ what I want and @ the diamonds will get him interested in LEARNING more.

Tonight he kind of had to talk me down from the ledge. He said although he didn''t trust online shopping that it sounded like I was doing sound research (which I have the time for and he does not) and he said he didn''t necessarily have to finance it so we could go to more independent places and possibly online. Anyways, I think we will go look at some rocks tomorrow. I just kind of told him that he could probably save over 1000 dollars going somewhere else and possibly online and he is open to that now. Plus I won''t feel that bad for making him go outside of his budget. I don''t mean to sound like that, but you guys know what I mean. In a way this forum is good for me and in a way it kind of keeps my mind on it waaay too much Thanks though!

Hi guys! I think my ring was purchased tonight! I found a great jeweler to work with today and took dbf there. Jeweler didn''t have what I wanted this morning but I got good vibes from him and he wanted to look for a stone that I wanted and his dad was coming in later with some stones. So I said I would probably bring dbf tonight to talk to him so he can get a little education and see what I wanted. Dbf was like "Why are we going there if they don''t have what you want"...I said that he was going to get some new stones. So I am thinking we are just going in to talk about what I wanted and the stone would be found and I would have no idea. Well jeweler calls me a couple hours later to say that he has 2 perfect stones for me and dbf said I did this much, that I should just go ahead and look @ the stones. So, we go there and I had two stones to look at. I cannot remember all of the details exactly but...

Princess Cuts
Both very nice, sparkly eye-clean stones

Stone #1 GIA 0.75 ct, G, VS1
Stone #2 EGL 0.71 ct, F, SI1

I went with stone #2. Dbf and I both liked the color of this stone. It was slightly less expensive.

Dbf put a deposit down, and the jeweler is going to start making my ring! I really didn''t want to be THIS involved but I am glad that I was able to pick out what I wanted.

Now the waiting begins...it will be at least 10-14 days I know that much. Then I hope he doesn''t keep me waiting too much more after that.

I am excited!

Yeah I made it so easy on him...I feel bad, he wanted a fancy diamond setting...but...I always wanted a simple white gold setting. We went with a flat cathedral white gold. Surprise will be coming with his proposal which he said that he''s known for a long time what he wanted to do. Yes, a short stay maybe but I just found this site a few days ago...I have been a lady in waiting in spirit for a year now

Oh boy, I got a lil frustrated tonight, a lil weary. Ok, my ring should have been done like August 1st so like why aren''t I engaged yet? Just kidding But, ok ff should have been to the jeweler twice since we selected the ring. Once to pay for it, and once to pick it up. He has been teasing me, saying he was going to look around more...but he did put a deposit down on the diamond. Urgh! I see the commercial for the jeweler @ least 10 times a day, that gets me so....sooo...I dunno. Worked up. Today he says..."Oh, I finally saw "your boy''s" commercial" So I am wondering why he said it like that "my boy"...shouldn''t he be "his boy" by now? If he was in to see him twice since that day. Just spilling my thoughts here!

My ring''s been done for a while now too (about 2 weeks) and my ff hasn''t picked it up (i''m pretty sure) yet either. Mine''s doing the layaway plan offered by the store. They didn''t have financing and he really wanted to finance, so this was a good option for him. Any chance that''s what your ff is doing? I know you said he wanted to do that originally.

Maybe he has the ring and is waiting for the "perfect" time to propose. My ff has a plan that apparently can only work at one specific time, so he said it doesn''t matter when he gets the ring, i have to wait for that time.

Well guys! Here is an interesting turn of events. Ok, after I decided on the stone, ff and jeweler were gonna leave me out of it. They did have my phone # because I made the initial inquiry to find the stone then he was making all the contacts with him...and he was teasing me about wanting to shop around etc and I didn''t know what to think as you can see in my last post.

Well today I get a call from a lady at the jewelers....She non-cholantly said "Just calling to say that your job is ready." Um....I told her "Um, I don''t think I am supposed to know about that"...she was like well I was told to call you, I was like "Um, I think that was supposed to be a surprise" getting all worked up... She was like "Well, I am just the messenger" I said sooo um what am I supposed to do, tell him to come pick it up?" She was like "I guess, I dunno". So I hung up...not sure what to do...then I called back and she answered and I asked to speak to the owner. He was sorta apologetic and was like "I am sorry, that was a mistake (DUH!), and I called him (ff) and he is going to meet with me next week...It turned out great, you are going to loooove it"

Can you believe that?

When is the first day of school Katie?? It it makes you feel anybetter today marks day 19 that ''my'' ring has been done and my bf hasn''t even gone to look at it yet and at the very earliest, won''t be able to until Sunday.

It sounds like it''s going to be soooo soon. What has helped me get throught this waiting period is to go and look at rings that will look like what you''ll be receiving-a visual reminder of how fantastic it will be to get something sooo beautiful, so stunning as a token of your love that he wants to last a lifetime. Best of luck for this weekend (Saturday is a particulary good day for special events- August 12 is my birthday and has been good to me. Also, the best meteor shower viewing happens and like 2 am on Saturday morning. Just a fun fact.)

OMG I wish we still had a pickup...that would be so romatic to drive to the country and sit in the bed to observe the shower. We can still do it though. I remember that was one of the best times I ever had with my Dad, a number of years ago! Amazing leonid meteor shower. I am hoping for Sunday morning! We go back on the 21st
