It IS blindingly white! Gotta love those ideal cut J''s!!!

Funny what Greg said! My DH has been saying the same thing to me EVERY D@MN DAY!

"Excited about your ring, huh? I hope you love it, because there will be no more diamonds or upgrades for the foreseeable future. We''re talking at least 10 years!" Me: "OK sweetie." Little does he know.

well i have been in love for months with LLLs head and now it''s JCrow''s head too....i do want 6 prongs on this sucker even though i am more a fan of 4 prongs, but from the side view i like the ''cupped'' style of the head holding the stone rather than the sticky 4 prong head that i have now, i want more of a flowing appearance from the side. so i had valeria, mistress of photoshop, put LLL''s head onto my ring and here is what she sent me. so far this is the top contender though i also considered ummmm who was it, someone who recently had WF do a tiffany 6 prong on a different band for them...i''m blanking out though on who!! but anyway val photoshopped that one too and it didn''t look quite as good with my ring i thought...part of it is that i am dealing with a ring already made and the head has to look like it ''goes'' with it and still be able to sit high enough to have my w-ring sit flush.

haha kristy i know, he has been on me...every time i mention the upgrade or the trip, he goes ''this is going to make you REALLY happy right???'' ... i am going to have to do cartwheels when it comes in so that he feels like i am showing my happiness in an appropriate manner i suppose!

the problem as we all know, is that once you get over the 2c range the diamonds get infinitely more pricey. so to upgrade THIS sucker to even ''just'' a 3c J SI1 it would be ALOT more moola. so i hope that i can make it til year 10 because at that point i could make more of an argument to go above 3c and go directly to like 3.5c and then call it done (well for another 10 years?). but oh my god is it wrong because i am already thinking WOW how long for shrinkage to set in on this 2.32 and what happens when it does? how am i going to make it another EIGHT YEARS?????????

Wow! That looks huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge! I love LLL''s head - I still go back to that thread to check out her ring - it''s just so beautiful.

Congrats - I think it''ll be perfect for a few years (until shrinkage really sinks in)

I think you will Mara, this one is such a stunner and will look so much bigger than the 1.6, or just keep your eyes open and do it in smaller increments!

That diamond is amazing!! You guys are making me love rounds when I never thought I would!!
30.gif
Seriously... I can''t wait for my asscher but there''s nothing saying my bf can''t get me an ACA in the future right
31.gif
. I really love the "cup" look of the 6 prong setting and it definitely won''t overpower that huge diamond!

haha lorelei, i already emailed lesley a few weeks ago and said JUST IN CASE you guys come up with a ~2.6c K SI2 or something that ends up being graded a K by the lab when they were hoping it''d be a J or something, LET ME KNOW!!! because this is supposed to be the last one for a while, i don''t think that Greg would even let me go to 2.7c or something in a year or two, he really wants me to be happy with this one for the next 8 years. GULP. talk about pressure!

however, i already told him that the agreement on 8 years does NOT mean that i can''t do a 3 stone at some point in a few years, if i get really desperate for more finger coverage....
11.gif
tee hee. the only thing i could think of was how mrs. jam''s hubby made her sign a CONTRACT for her upgrade to say it was it for X amount of time....and hoping that Greg wouldn''t come up with that bright idea!!

That''s going to be some ring! I can''t wait to see hand shots. I think it will be knock down, drop dead gorgeous. I love the head and agree it''s much more elegant than standard prongs.

I like how you think, hehe! 8 years is a long time. A 3-stone technically shouldn''t be considered an upgrade...after all, you would be keeping the center stone, right?
11.gif

By the way, that is a beautiful head! (thank heavens for Ana and her photoshopping!) It will look wonderful on your sparkly ring!

Good idea about the K Mara, one has to keep one''s options open! I howled at Mrs Jam''s contract, I remember part of it being that she had to scoop the cat litter for FIVE YEARS! Worth it though!

Beautiful stone - gorgeous!! Just ginormous. And damn, I love that new head.

Yeay! What an upgrade!!!

How fun, you must be SOOO excited. Don''t even think about shrinkage yet!! I can probably bet my upgrade that your upgrade will not last 8 years. I''m sure you''ll find some special way of moving up with your DH. Or all of us will help you anyway!

It''s a gorgeous stone - and What GREAT numbers! Just perfect.

Going from 1.5 to 2.0 definately was satisfying and still is.. (8 months later). Even though at certain angles... well.. then I take a second look - and it''s still good.

Can''t wait to see what you decide with the head. How about some gently teased apart split prongs???

I think that head will enlarge that puppy even more - I love that shape!

HOLY CRAP MARA!!! I knew you were up to something!! That is a gorgeous find and I can''t wait to see it on your hand!!
Good luck with the waiting and congrats!

Then again - maybe just put a halo around it and you''ll get your finger coverage!!!

laney i thought about split prongs but with 6 that would seemingly be too much metal going on? it''s already going to be tough for me to take this from 4 prongs to 6 but i am going to get the tiniest prong tips possible!

it''s tough because i also recently saw a picture of a 6 prong ritani head that had some scalloped detail from prong to prong which was really pretty so now i am torn again. i still have some time though, i want to finalize within the next 2 weeks, and get WF going on the wax so that on our trip i can see the wax head and hopefully approve it, then it''s only a week til 2nd anniversary!

lol lorelei, well i hope that greg doesn''t wise up and try to get me to agree to clean the toilets for the next 8 years or something!! yikes!

a 3 stone is NOT an upgrade, you are so right Kristy...that''s what i keep telling him. plus just think of how much less expensive it is to add side stones than to get a larger stone. wait why am i telling you this? you are in the process of doing that as we speak!

laney, don''t jinx my eight years!! i just figure, okay if i can make it to FIVE years then maybe we can talk.
12.gif

Congratulations Mara! I am so excited for you. That is one KILLER diamond!!! Can''t wait to see the finished result on your hand. What a fantastic anniversary present this will be. If you decide you can''t live without another upgrade before your 10th anniversary, just let Greg have something really expensive that HE wants and tell him its okay honey as long as I can get a bigger diamond!!! That has worked well for me in the past.

OH sundial he has already thought of that!! he is making noises about buying another large old truck (ala oh i could buy two of those for what this upgrade is costing...) but the saving grace is that we have no room for him to work on it and store it, his other truck is housed in a garage a few towns away BUT i know first opp he gets he will be calling in the ''favor''....''oh but you got the big sparkly rock on your finger, don''t i deserve another car or truck or two?''....

WOW, Mara, I am SO HAPPY for you, Congratulations!!!! This new ring is going to be INSANE!!! I cant wait to see the finished product!!

Question for you- how did you feel when you upgraded the first time, and now again? Were you ever "attached" to the stones- especially the one Greg proposed to you with?? I brought up the idea to Brian re: an upgrade next year (yes, call me Mara Jr.) and he seemed shocked because he thought I could never let go of the stone he proposed to me with for sentimental reasons. And then I thought about it and it did seem a little sad. How do I get over that part??? Not to hijack your thread....

Oh the marital negotiations we make!!! This is why I have a Mercedes roadster in my garage that barely gets driven.

This one is amazing Mara.
I can''t wait until it''s set and on your finger.
hmmm how many days left?

Dani...well yes Greg was sentimental about our first stone...because he proposed with it and we had chosen it together. I kind of was but the more dissatisfied I was with the cut quality, the more I knew I had to have something else. We HAD talked about me getting a bigger stone in the future, like year 10 but keeping that initial stone for a pendant or something.

I had to work on him for a good 9 months before I saw any 'progress'....but what really convinced him was the cut quality of the first stone vs the second, he knew that I wanted a more ideal cut stone and when he saw his own small ACA stone compared to mine and how his small stone blew away mine, he was like wow okay maybe you are right. I also knew once that first stone was gone, upgrades would be easier because he is not sentimental in general. So that was totally the truth, he has no emotional attachments at all to my stone now, but he does love the ring setting (which i kinda want to change too depending on the day and my mood!!) because it's the original and it's a matching set etc.

Anyway, IMO as long as the guys don't feel like you are rejecting them or the stone they gave you from an emotional perspective, how Greg felt was that he was okay with it being a more 'technical' thing aka cut quality improvement rather than bigger or whatever but then once that stone was gone, he didn't care about changing the stone again and again because he had no emotional attachments.

Also I find that the more time that he has in general to get used to an idea (any idea, not just this), the more accepting or mellow he becomes about it. aka talking about painting or buying something for the house. At first he is like well do we need it or how much work will this be etc, but the more I talk about it like it will happen (aka when i paint the guest room or when i get that artwork i showed you for the dining room) then the more accepting he becomes and eventually he even says things like 'yeah that's a good idea' or when the stuff arrives he goes 'wow that looks great'...hahaaa. power of slow and steady suggestion? who knows! oh and lots of wine helps too.

~~Wow Mara!! You are sooo lucky!! I''m glad that you were able to find the perfect diamond (and at random at that!!)!! I''m soooo happy for you!!!

How exciting Mara! Can''t wait to see the sparkly sucker on your finger...it looks amazing~

thanks gals!! i am certainly feeling more and more excited and this thread is just making it more so!! hehee.

sevens, oh about another month or so...i haven''t gotten to the counting down the days just yet, but i am sure it will be hard for me to see this beauty in person and then come home ringless for a week or so BUT i do know from experience that a week or so without the rings at all makes you really appreciate then when you get them back.

I'm so excited for you Mara! 2.32 is gonna be HUGE! Can't wait to see the finished product. My fiance called while I was reading this thread and I immediately said "Mara's getting an upgrade!" and he said "another one?!" hahah!

Congratulations Mara! Gorgeous stone and it''s going to look huge on your finger!

Regarding marital negotiations, I have to make them to get my bling too - I can''t use the cat litter excuse though that Mrs Jam did, as I do it anyway, I can''t bear the retching and gagging and self sacrifice from DH when he takes his turn once a year
emotion-41.gif

Negotiations are a must. I''m working on my own set to be discussed with hubby in the near future
