OK, so every year PSers are great about sharing gift ideas. These year, I thought we might have gift ideas for the people in our lives we will most likely have to shop for? Anyone want to pitch in ideas for the following people? It might help others who need it! (Links and price estimates are always appreciated).

Partner -
Mother in law -
Father in law -
Sister in law -
Brother in law -
Mom -
Dad -

Anyone else that should be added to the list? Coworkers? Boss? And I don''t expect a ton of answers right away...if you''re anything like me, you''re not wanting to think about this yet!!!!

I'll also be over at 4pm to vacuum & do the laundry.

ETA: Cuz THAT's how Xmas shopping feel to me, especially in a *tight $* year ... like a C-H-O-R-E!

Yes. The man who either has everything, or could buy it.

I need a "thank you" gift idea. I''ve bought everything I can think of (this has been going on for years with this person), from fancy barware (LOTS), to a copper sculpture, to $125 bottle of wine, to some hightech golf thingy that tells the distance to the ball, to the Piece de resistance, a special order/designed neon sign for their bar (which turned out so cool, the designer stole our idea and made another one to sell in his shop). There''s no outdoing that one.....

I give up. It doesn''t have to be expensive, just something unique hopefully, that he wouldn''t think of.

But I''ll think on yours.

How about a digital photo frame for parents and inlaws? We got FI''s parents a really nice digital photo frame since they are really into pictures. It was $80 on sale at Best Buy... Macy''s also has a black friday deal for about $70.

We are getting FI''s boss something little... probably a basket of goodies from Harry and David.

Hope this gives you a couple of ideas!

I''ll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure! I have NO idea what I''m going to get DH. I normally get him a bunch of clothes...which isn''t much fun for him...

I know that my mom got my DH one of those grown a garden in your own house things - I think it is around $170...

DH is kind of mr.wizard-wanna-be, so it is a great gift for him.

Any good ideas for the ladies in our lives?

I''ll either be getting my boyfriend a tie or two from Southerproper.com or from vineyardvines.com because he has been eyeing them for quite awhile!

this year i am thinking about the bose earbuds for greg for his ipod...and also a portable dvd player for us to watch movies on when we travel. he is super hard to buy for since if he wants something he typically just goes and gets it for himself, while i tend to mull on things forever so i always have a list of things i want to get or am thinking about!

for parents i like doing things like digital picture frames or framed pictures of all their kids (aka did that one year for my dad, a set of pictures of all 3 of us girls that we had a friend who works professionally take), for my mom i also like giving her massages or facials to her fave place. she also has boutiques she loves to shop at and yarn shops she likes to frequent, so i typically do a gift cert to something like that for her, she''s also the type who just buys what she wants so it''s hard to surprise her with something she''d really love.

my dad also loves playing with his car (as do many guys) so one year i put together a car washing kit at target, i think i spent about $60 and got a bucket and all these cool soaps, polishes, tire cleaners, towels, etc etc. he apparently uses it all the time. i might want to replenish it this year actually! along the same lines for the car i have gotten him big fancy dusters for his car, a ''safety kit'' to keep in the car, the digital tire pressure gauge from Red Envelope, etc.

also, this may sound funny but last time i traveled i was checking out the inflight catalog...shopmall or whatever it''s called? they had some cool stuff in there for people who are hard to buy for! i am totally going to check it out online and maybe get a few goodies for people. for example, greg''s dad and stepmom have a small dog who can''t get on the bed unassisted, and in this catalog they had one of those sherpa step up to bed things for the dog. it was super cute! so while i may not get them that one, it''s an idea for the future for sure.

also for greg, clothes are always great as he never tends to shop on his own. or a cert to a running store to get new shoes when his wear out. in the past i have also renewed mag subscriptions to his favorites, and gotten him some new ones. or a gift cert to a car place where he can get funky tools that aren''t carried locally. just some random ideas!!

I''m in the camp of not wanting to think about it....

Partner - make him wait for the rewards money from American express to buy what he wants.
Father in law - gift card to Home Depot
Sister in law - money and clothes for nephews
Brother in law - money
Mom - pajamas and watch
Dad - X files box set and gift card to lowe's or home depot
sibling - gift card to barnes and nobles for bil, pottery barn for sis and clothes for nephew

Anyone else that should be added to the list? Coworkers? Boss? And I don't expect a ton of answers right away...if you're anything like me, you're not wanting to think about this yet!!!!

In the past I gave close coworkers candles and the boss's a card and usually cards to everyone else

I am w/you Lisa; I don't want to think about it either but I mentally have an idea.
20.gif

Mara, you gave me a great idea! My parents don't know how to use the internet to see the family pics so I think I will do one of those picture frames w/all the photos, they would love that!!!
9.gif

DH: no one else could possibly need these, but Sorel boots for him to use with his brand new snowshoes he bought off ebay. $200
Daughter oldest: Nintendo DS + games because she has time to fill between classes at uni. Daughter youngest: Canon A630 camera because she's going to CA for March Break. >$300

Then it's all small accessories and things to fill everyones stockings. I think I may have misunderstood the question though. Did you want ideas for yourself, or just to know what other people were getting? These are the only people I/we buy for.

We''re not getting each other xmas gifts, but I got FI a big fur hat (russian style!) for our anniversary. They are very fashionable right now and readily available (got his at Bloomingdale''s), and nothing beats them for warmth!

But of course, not for the fashion timid.
2.gif

What about kids? There are so many toys out there, but what gets played with in the long-term? The only toys my kids really like are Transformers and Legos and they have SO MANY!

Partner - DH wants nothing but Best Buy gift certificates
2.gif

Mother in law - She''s a hard one. I dunno. GC to Talbots maybe
Father in law - I don''t have a clue - I''ll leave that to DH to decide
Sister in law - Again, not a clue. I''m sure gift cards. I don''t know my SIL''s well since they live out of state and we''ve only seen one another half a dozen times in the last 6 years.
Brother in law - Best Buy gc.
Mom - Picture of the kiddo and maybe gc somewhere
Dad - You guessed it - GC to Best Buy!
sibling - A kick in the arse!

Hm, well at least it''s early in the season and we''re tossing about ideas!

Mara, the catalog in the planes is called "SkyMall". I always look through it because some of the items are hilarious! But they do have some ingenious inventions from time to time!

And of course MC, I forgot kids! I just feel like kids are easier...they are shy about what they want. I already have a list from my niece and nephew!

I''d add friends and children to the list.

Mom - have done: jewelry, spa certificates, scarf/gloves set
Dad - have done: pics of my son in frame, dvd set of Planet Earth, books, movie gift certificates
sibling - have done: clothes, dvd''s
Friends - was thinking of Sephora (they have various perfumes or you can get a sampler set which enables the person to sample different ones and then get a full size bottle of the one they like the best)
Also thinking of a bed & breakfast gift certificate (not sure the online site for this but there is one)
Have done: jewelry, teapot & mugs, unique coasters, poster of art they like, books
Children - thinking of a Wii, Dance/Dance Revolution, tickets to bball game

So lots of have done, not sure what I''m doing this year. More to come as I think of them. I have other ideas but no time right now to write them.

I love the idea of a digital photo frame for the (future in my case) in laws! I always have such a hard time thinking what to get them, and FI is NO help, so thanks oobiecoo!

I''m thinking of getting FI a wii for Christmas...but I''m so clueless when it comes to this stuff. Are they still hard to come by, or can I find one in any best buy I go to? Will they be sold out on black Friday if I don''t get there and line up outside the door before they open?

This is a fun gift (I haven''t given it yet, but was considering it)...

Adopt an olive tree in Italy - you get to have the production of oil from that tree for the year! It is a neat site to look around..
You choose the orchard you want the tree to be from (pics on the website)

It IS £65, and the shipping is additional...
UK: £10
EU: £20
World: £25
But kinda original I thought!

I always stress this time of year trying to come up with the perfect gift for everyone. It can be so exhausting!
Last year I got my father in law a subscription to National Enquirer. He is so hard to buy for, but I knew he bought this magazine on his own at the supermarket. Ends up he enjoys getting it in the mailbox every week and my mother in law reads it as well. Then they pass it on to me and I get to read it! It''s the gift that keeps on giving, lol! At least it''s something he enjoys rather than a sweater that doesn''t fit or he doesn''t like.

Brothers: Office Space gift packs w/ a red stapler, Initech t-shirts, the movie, etc. They love it, so it's a fun "joke" gift

Another gift for one of my brothers: This drink dispenser. Would be even better if he were in undergrad still, but he's 28 and stuck in a perpetual state of college-dom, so I think he'll like it
3.gif

My dad: I snagged this Movado travel alarm clock from Signed Pieces after getting the 70% off email.

Mom: ??

I'm always so frustrated because if she were a jewelry person (like me!!) or even a clothes/bag person (like me!!) I'd always have something she'd like. But she's a power tools and gardening person so I'm usually at a loss
20.gif

In-laws: Just got a new puppy, so I'm going to be passing along some of our old books/etc. as well as some fun new toys and bedding. Our dog would never eat if not for this thing, so they'll definitely be getting one of those (among other things!)

OK, I just realized that skymall has a website. www.skymall.com

Are you the weird type that saran wraps your remote too? Although, I think that might be appropriate in this case....
