hey girls! I haven''t been on the board in ages but need some advice from the well traveled! We have about 8 days and are leaving from new york. I know it''s a personal choice, but we can''t decide between Italy and Croatia, having never been to either! We''re thinking the Umbria region-we''re not too into museums and big landmarks. We are also thinking of the dalmation coast in croatia. If anyone could pipe in with advice I''d really appreciate it. The cost of flights are about the same although it''s a bit easier to get to Italy. We''re mostly looking for a relaxing time and cool scenery.

When are you going...

Do you want a more established tourist infrastructure (choice of nice/posh hotels, tourist center, etc?)

How much does food matter?

Personally, Croatia is my fave.

Oh! We''re going at the beginning of July. Food is kind of important-we like to eat! I had heard the food in Croatia was mostly Italian. Traveling gal-have you been to both regions? Thanks for your help! I am leaning towards croatia since the scenery looks amazing!

Well, no one does Italian food better than the italians! I don''t actually remember Croatian food being all that spectacular...

Been to Croatia (Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar/Starigrad) and Italy but not Umbria.

Hi Shinythings--Tgal is right about the food--no one does it like italy (ummm, i could go for some crusty roman bread and fresh olives right now!) so if food is important I would vote for Italy. I did not have a spectacular meal in croatia--but was also not there for long.

What are your main hopes for the honeymoon?
Honestly, both are amazing places for a honeymoon....Croatia is less touristy so it will have less to offer in terms of major, world-known sights etc.,But it is sooo beautiful and has it's own charm. Italy is pure romance and full of endless sightseeing possibilites/rich culture....so it comes down to what you are looking for.

You could also consider a 7-day Med. cruise and see a bit of both....
