So, tomorrow night is our local party / wedding shower. I admit it: I''m kind of excited.

Anyway, we are planning to send the couple hosting the party some orchids on Saturday and I''m trying to decide if it''s nicer to receive a plant, with fewer blossoms, but longer lasting, or a bouquet of orchids, that''s lusher, but will die in a few weeks.

Thoughts?

Here''s the bouquet...

And here''s the plant...but we''d probably get a different colour flower.

Which would you rather get?

bouquet. It shows better. If I were buying for myself, I''d do the plant though.

Personally I''d rather get the orchid.. but then again some people don''t want a plant that they have to take care of.

Oh my dear. The orchid plant. Without a doubt. I think it looks prettier and the fact that it will live longer is a major PLUS. A friend of mine did an orchid plant as her centerpiece and it was a huge hit. Very modern.

And you can tie a ribbon around the pot, in one of your wedding colors...as a harbinger of what''s to come...

I hate recieving flowers, only to watch them die so I say the plant. One of the first my DH gave me -- the girl with the brown thumb -- lives in our family room, I''m amazed I haven''t killed it in 3 years (it''s a hearty plant, a crown of thorns).

I love recieving potted plants.
Get her phalaenopsis (moth) orchids. They are the easiest to take care of and when well taken care of, will bloom 6 months out of the year. They also tend to be a bit cheaper.
The potted one you pictured is a phalaenopsis so any like that are a good bet.

I vote for the bouquet. It will look great for the party and it''s not as intimidating as a plant that you then need to take care of. The bouquet is beautiful!

FI was all "if we send them a plant they have to water it." I tried to point out that just because HE can''t keep it together with house stuff, doesn''t mean they can''t.

But he is right in the respct that they travel quite a lot. So, bouquet it is. Signed sealed, soon to be delivered.

But yeah, i think I''d prefer getting a plant too.

can you get one of each?

They are both lovely! It sounds like you had a great reason to go with the bouquet even though it sounds like us gals would really love to get potted plants as gorgeous as that orchid! I also wanted to say have fun! I''ve enjoyed so much hearing about all your wedding plans, and they are just around the bend!
