I think her reasoning of having short finger nails is not invalid. A 3.34ct diamond is going to draw a lot more attention and if your wife is conscious about her nails and hands (like I am) then she may not want to do this. However, a really well done manicure would make one''s hands look good regardless of the length of the fingner nails and would therefore allow her to show off that beautiful boulder.

A possible reason is, as someone else said, the robbery. She may not feel safe wearing it, because again it may draw too much attentionn to herself.

Yet another possible reason is that the setting is 4-prong instead of 6. Did you not say in yr other post that yr wife felt the 4 prongs may not be safe and if something happens to one, the diamond would fall out?
methink that too.

Send it to me, I''ll take great care of it. See if she misses it??

Hmmm...DF, was this upgrade really for her or for you? It just doesn''t seem like she''s comfortable wearing this ring. I could be wrong, but the short fingernails sound more like an excuse.
the stone was mounted in a gent''s ring, but it look too big on my finger, so i had it remount into a ladies ring.

Did you originally purchase this ring for yourself? Since it was originally a gent''s ring.

I wouldn''t wear a stone that large either. Especially after a robbery, I''d be too afraid of drawing attention to myself.

If I was worried about security, I would definitely wear it in a pendant rather than on a ring...mmm, maybe on a lovely long chain, being the size it is...

I have a friend who has an almost 4 ct rb solitaire that her fiance bought for her. She very self conscious about it and usually wears it spun around with the diamond on the underside of her hand. She isn''t worried so much about safety, but she feels like it is too flashy. It drives me crazy because the diamond is always so filthy and the setting is always full of yuck from riding around on the wrong side of her hand! I have had it on a few times, and I don''t think I could wear it everyday either. It''s just too big and flashy.

So this ring is too big for you to wear and your wife may not feel safe wearing it. How often did she wear her original e-ring?

Maybe she''s sentimental! An e-ring means so much. I know if FI bought himself a big rock and later gave it to me, I''d wear it sometimes but it wouldn''t be "my e-ring." Maybe if you bought it for her expressly as an e-ring upgrade or whatever, she''d feel more emotionally attached to it?

But hey, that is one yummy K.O. rock. I believe I''d get over my initial scruples for THAT!

not very often before it was lost in a robbery.

Now I''m confused. The ring was too big for you? Why would you think it would be acceptable to her? Pendant - all the way - with her input on what she wants and a big ole hug along with it. Pendants don''t get knocked around the way a ring does.

DF, tell your wife that if she doesn''t want to wear it, you''re going to allow each of us to wear it for one week before passing it on to the next gal, kind of like the "Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants." Let''s see if it brings any of us luck. I know it would bring me temporary happiness

DF that is soo funny that your wife got YOUR hand me down!!! Seriously, I laughed at that thought.

Since you got it originally for YOU and then you made it for HER, it wasn''t HER in mind when you originally made the ring. As any lady knows it is the thought that counts, when she was in the FORETHOUGHT, and not hindsight.

Turn the bauble into an awesome bezel set pendant... and maybe add some little ones up the side? Ask her input... and see what she wants. Not that I am knocking a 3ct hand me down... that sucker is gorgeous!

But... if the other ring she wears all the time is something you picked out from the get-go FOR HER,that may be why she wears it more often.

i''m not too crazy about a 3ct pendant. one can lose a pendant w/o knowing until it''s too late.

I''m not too crazy about a 3ct pendant either... and I''m not sure it would be any more secure, or that your wife would feel any more comfortable wearing it. I could see a stone of that size set into a slide for an omega-style necklace, but I suspect it still wouldn''t see the light of day too often.

DF, is there any possibility you could sell that stone or trade it for something your wife would like more? A smaller pendant perhaps, a nice diamonds by the yard-type necklace, or something in the way of a tennis bracelet or necklace...? I know it''s nice to have something as rare and special as a 3.3 ct diamond, but I hate the thought of it sitting in your safe deposit box when it could be used towards a piece or two that your wife would enjoy wearing, and that would evoke fond thoughts of the thoughtful husband who selected it just for her.

And if that''s not an option... I live just down the street (metaphorically speaking) if I''m not mistaken, and I''d be more than happy to take that ring out for a walk from time to time!

never a good idea to sell jewelry, can''t get much for a used diamond. she wears a tennis bracelet daily.
