My stepbro''s super indecisive fiance has decided to return her jcrew dress and another dress she''d already order... well she''s selling that one. Anyways her wedding is aug 15 and she has no dress. She''s on about a $500 or so budget. Where''s the best place to get off the rack dresses other than jcrew or nordstrom? I don''t think she has a ton of time for alterations. Maybe sample sales??

The place where I ordered my dress told me that they sometimes sell their dresses off the rack to desperate brides in need of a dress quick! This would mean that she would have to fit into the sample sizes and not mind a getting a dress that is not brand new. Maybe call around to places? I also know that David''s Bridal will send you home with a dress that day if they have your size. Good luck to her.

I don't know where she is located but in Massachusetts there are shops like this one just outside of Boston. They have some gorgeous stuff at good prices as you can see on the site [ETA: you can search by price under the advanced search option - I found 68 gowns under $750, about half of which were under $500]. There may be something similar near her.

She may also want to try Cache which can be found in many malls. Local boutiques may also be a good place to have a look.

Hope this helps.

Here are a couple sites for her to check out

She may also want to try House of Brides since they have some dresses in stock. I wouldn't recommend them normally (you can find reviews for them and their ordering/shipping issues), but I figure if they are in stock they should ship quickly.

Thanks for the links and recommendations. She''s located in Minneapolis.

I have no problem with David''s but she totally hates it. She''s having a bit of a non-traditional wedding so doesn''t want the big bridaly wedding dress unless one falls in her lap who knows. Her budget may be too smal for pre-owned.

Anyone in the bay area tried glamour closet? Also she''s not a sample size unless the run a bit bigger so i''m not sure if that would be an option for her. She''s so unorganized so this is kind of a crazy short amount of time to be doing this!

If she''s larger than a street size 4 or 6 she might have issues finding something off the rack. I know BridePower (the VOWS store DB mentioned) does carry larger sample sizes.

Has she taken a look at bridesmaid dresses? She might be able to have one rush ordered. Watters has some ''quick delivery'' styles on their website:

Almost every bridal shop I visited has a selection of samples for sale. Most will be sizes 8, 10, or 12, but I''ve seen them up to size 20 or so. Bridal gowns definitely usually run small, but some brands run about true to size. So, if I were her I''d hit the bridal shops in town and check out their selection of samples. My future sister-in-law recently purchased a Pronovias sample for under $500. Other than that, Nordstrom is a great idea.

I found the cutest dress that''s available on pre-owned dresses for a good discount. It''s understated enough yet elegant. She hasn''t seen it yet but it fits her budget and she seemed to like jcrew before.

She needs one bridesmaid dress too and this one in papaya seems perfect with her colors and seems to match the dress.

What do you ladies think?

If she ends up getting the Sabine, check e-bay. It is always on there for cheap! I think ebay, consignment, and samples are going to be the only option with that kind of turn around. Eek!
