Just curious--how long did you and your FI date before getting engaged?

We dated for 1 yr.--off and on--I got engaged to someone else for about 2 weeks(I was silly and impatient waiting for HIM to ask so I said yes to the wrong guy...I told ya I was silly and stupid...thank goodness I awoke from that nightmare!

)--was unengaged...then we--me and THE RIGHT GUY--got engaged on Jan. 19th, 1981. We didn''t want to wait too long so we got married February 14th 1981. Whew!

This upcoming February 2006, we will celebrate 25 years of married life

...and it only gets better

Seven years. I really didn''t want to change my living situation until both of my sons were off to college, which happened last year.

There''s one good thing about dating for a long time, and that is, the cost of the Ering. I told him that if he pro-rated the cost over seven years, it really wasn''t so bad.

...actually I''m more insane because we got married after one year, engaged after 10 months.

I am certainly not putting down anyone that got engaged in less than a year of dating, but I have always heard it is good to date someone for at least a year so that you get to see them through all seasons (know what I mean?

) Many people in the first few months of dating show only their best side and you don''t really get to see everything unless you''ve been dating a while. If you''re friends with someone first, I think it''s different then.

In our case, we dated for 1 year and 8 months before we got engaged, then got married 14 months later. We''ve been married 6 years now.

I''d say a year is plently long enough. People only acting in a relationship for about 3-6 months at the longest.

We did 1 3/4 years. It takes a while to save up for those rings, ladies. Got married 11 days ago, which meant were engaged for abotu 14 months.

We didn''t live together beforehand at all, so it we just began. it''s kinda cool because it saved something different for being married.

Oops just read you answer! One year isn''t crazy, we would have gotten married a lot sooner if we weren''t so young (by Los Angeles standards). I just turned 28 in July and met FI just before I turned 21.
