Sharpen your pencils, get out your calculators ... how many carats of diamonds do you and/or your significant other own? And since this is a poll, you can remain anonymous.

CF, are you holding the only other vote in this poll?

I'm so sad that I didn't even need a calculator to answer this Q.

We''re expecting some incredible numbers from DiDiamond, Jennifer5973, and MaryAliana

Oh gosh, CF, my total diamond weight is only slightly over the carat weight of your single pear stone. I''ve got some catching up to do, huh?

add your name to that list cflutist, i''ve seen your tally!

Kmom, I have not voted yet, so it wasn''t me.

p.s. this is NOT a contest. Was just curious what the Pricescope community members had.

Cflutist,
Are you asking the total weight of all my diamonds??? I have no clue, but it''s up there, big time!!!

The .15 is from wink.
I have no clue what the total is that my wifey2b has.
If I had to guess Id say around .75ct

Now if you had asked bout gemstones that would have been in the 60+ct range between us :}

.51..... hmmm. might have to work on that!

Storm, how about posting your colored stones in the new Gallery? I''d love to see them.

You know, the Colored Stones, Colored Stone Grading, and Gem ID classes at the GIA were much more
difficult than the Diamond and Diamond Grading classes. The Gem ID class was a blast (got use a refractometer, polariscope, dichroscope, SG fluids, spectroscope etc) and yet stressful at the same time. If you mis-identified any unknown specimen on the Final exam, you failed. Don''t know how I ever passed ... Have forgotten much that I learned since I got my Gemologist Diploma back in 1989 and haven''t worked in the industry (IT professional instead). Still have my equipment though. Maybe someday I need to brush up, go back and take the 3 extension lab class so I can become a full blown GG.

If they ever do expose themselves, the next game to play is "guess how many carats this/these people own?"

If they wanted us to know they would tell us.
An anonymous poll is kewl but I dunno about the rest.

I''m sure mine aren''t the highest here. Your post did make me update an old total I had done....to the best of my ability (I had to estimate on some pieces that I don''t know for sure), I have 46.73 ct. total.
9.gif
I didn''t realize I have passed the 40 ct. mark, so that was a nice surprise!

CFlutist,

Just like you, I took the GIA home study gemology program back in the late 80''s and got my Gemologist certificate in 1990. But I never got around to taking the 3 required practical classes. So I haven''t quite made it to GG yet. I was planning to take the Diamond Grading one this year, but vacation plans got in the way. I agree with you that the final exam of the gem ID class was the most stressful, but I managed to get through the first try. At one time, I was considering changing career, but never quite found the right niche. I enjoyed the classes and learned a lot. The knowledge certainly come in handy when I shop for jewelry.

AN, congrats to you for passing the Gem ID Final the first try. I did too, but I wonder how many people do fail on their first attempt. Don''t remember the specifics but there were two specimens that were close calls.

When I retire from the IT biz, who knows, maybe I''ll work at a B&M, but it has to be an AGS store though. I try to keep up by subscribing to National Jeweler and JCK. When I see the annual JCK salary survey, I keep thinking I can''t afford to change careers.

cflutist,

I do not know the stats, but I think many people do not pass at first try. A saleslady at a local well known jewelry store told me she tried 6 times and still didn''t make it. I have checked average salary of jewelry sales associates too and there''s no way I can quit my day job. It would be fun to be a sales rep for a well known deisgner, color stone jewelry manufacturer or estate jewelry co., but my husband does not like the travelling involved. When I retire, I will do something fun with jewelry.

AN
