LOL. It is too bad people fall for it. What a rip-off. They are based out of Georgia. I can''t believe they sold that Spinel for that price. They had some Spinel rings on yesterday and those were priced outrageous also.

Linda
But they have some finished pieces to die for.I think the list prices they have are a bit much but some of the prices are not that bad.Have you checked retail lately. Not that I have much around here to check.lol I have a few pieces from them. They have such a variety and that is just not found, at least around here.

Hi Connie,

I do admit, some of their pieces are beautiful. The emerald and diamond ring I bought from them is absolutely to die for. I would never ever find that here. Their prices on tanzanite thoough are way out of line. JTV has great prices on tanzanite, or they used too and they were the dark color everyone wants. I bought one of their tanzanite stones last year. Dark color and clarity. I am hanging on to it, may have a pendant made, but no rings. HA!!!!!!

BTW my ring came back. He did a nice job, except......... part of the stone is now checkerboard cut and I detest that cut in a stone. I guess I am just hard to please

Connie, Linda, do you have their mail address? I will write them a letter.

Linda...do you have a picture of your ring from GSN.I would really like to see it.All that color on the turn table mesmerizes me.I have seen Tanzanite on GSN & JTV priced about the same.Think maybe this last Tanzanite buy JTV made is better than what they had because I have seen them cut off center..bad.Color was good but the cut was really bad.I bought a stone from them about 4 yrs ago and I have it put up.I decided not to set it so I bought a ring from JTV.That is it in my avatar. It is 3.63 ct. Tanzanite and 1ct. diamonds.

I don''t understand about your ring.Part of it is checkerboard cut?How can this be?Why would they do that to repair a scratch..wasn''t it? Gee . . .

Since I started this thread, I just had to comment that we sold our house and had to move into temporary housing until our new condo is ready. I'm afraid we have Bright House Cable and they don't offer GSN. I'm going through withdrawal, because I at least got my bling fix each evening. I'm afraid Jewelry Television just doesn't do it for me. Maybe GSN is a little less polished, but some of the pieces they have are pretty cool.

I agree Marvin can be so 'used car salesman,' but to me, he's entertaining. WOW!!

Is GSN only available through DirectTV, or do some of you get GSN through your local cable company? I may not be able to have satellite service in our new condo for logistics reasons. We're going to be on the 5th floor of a 23 story high-rise (if they EVER finish the stupid building) and the satellite gods won't commit in advance that they can get a signal to run cleanly from the roof (where they will let us put the dish) to the 5th floor.

Anyway, I miss GSN......

Hi Rod,

They are on Dish Network and Direct TV. Hopefully you will be able to get one of these. JTV, drives me nuts at times, they jibber jabber too much. Hopefully you may get DSN if you get cable, they are also on the above two channels. They jibber jabber too, but have some great stones.

After this thread started, I started watching a bit more of the Gem Shopping channel.
Has anyone else notice that the prices have really gone up.
The other day they had a blue Apatite, and were selling it for $300 per ct. That''s a stone that should be $60 - $100 for well cut goods. Some poor color pink tourmline for $270 per ct. only after they dropped down from the "list" price of $1000 per ct.
It seems that a few months ago the prices were much more inline.
Not that I am complaining, I love these high prices they are showing.

Anyone watch Shop NBC? There is some seriously quality stuff shown. Far superior to QVC.

Hi there;
you seem to be in the business. Have you noticed how the prices have gone up on GSN over the past few months? Any idea what happened to Steve?
26.gif

I was wondering about Steve, too. Think he was fired?

I''m also wondering if they''re selling Be diffused sapphires....at least in some of their jewelry. If I ever catch it when Frank''s on, I might call in and ask. I wonder if he''d admit it??

I always wondered if any of the shows that sell thier own stuff as in asain colect. has a web site. I would imagine GSN takes a healthy percentage of what ever they sell.

Ar last, a place where I can bare my soul!

I first stumbled on JTV in 1999, when they were still ACNTV, and was hooked instantly. I only purchased a bit from their show (probaboy because it was only on locally from midnight to 6 a.m.) but it did introduce me to their on-line auction -- they sold a ton of stuff at auction, and there were less people buying back then, so you could pick up some pretty good bargains. I got .5 - 1 ct tanzanite for about $30 per carat, ~1 ct tourmalines for less than $5 per carat, and a nice 1.5 ct Columbian emerald for less than $30. Then the show disappeared from local broadcast, my bidding practices (and visa bill!) started to scare me, and I was able to put the obsession behind me for awhile.

Fast forward a few years and one day ACN, now JTV, reappeasrs on my television screen, this time broadcasting 24-7. I was obsessed for awhile and gave the old visa card quite a workout, sometimes just to see what a particular stone looks like in real life! (I also made liberal use of their return policy.) My collection had another, though smaller, growth spurt.

My fever has subsided once again thanks in part to this forum. Not that PS has dampened my enthusiasm, it''s just making me a more educated consumer! I really appreciate all the experts and more experienced collectors that are willing to weigh in and share their knowledge with us rough rocks!

I wondered about Steve too. He was always blasting Direct Shopping Network, but never mentioned their name directly. It seems to me I heard he was going back into retail.

They do have some beautiful jewelry and gorgeous padparadschas.

Linda

My collection of jewelry and gem stones has grown thanks to JTV and GSN.Since my last post on this board and also on this thread I have had some of my pieces appraised by a GIA appraiser. Boy am I amazed. From JTV my nicer pieces were the memo pieces. I mostly had my Tanzanite pieces appraised.Next time I will have my Mandarin Garnets appraised.

At JTV I bought the ring in my avatar and it appraised for $12995.18 retail, I paid $4000.00. My 12.53 ct. Tanzanite appraised for $28,744.82 & I paid $5600.00 for it 4 yrs ago.A pair of Tanzanite earings I paid $500.00 appraised for $6,144.25...can you believe! I got both the retail and the wholesale prices.

At GSN I have a 2.02 Burma Ruby paid 1600.00 and appraised for $6,199.50.A Ruby & Diamond ring paid $3500.00 appraised for $9,000.00.

Now I am scared to wear this pieces

Conitta,

Boy did you get some good deals. Are you still buying stones? It is hard not to isn''t it? LOL LOL

Linda

Glad to see a few other people posting about the inexpensive prices ACNTV USED to have. The appraiser I got my appraisals from told me those were crazy low prices for what I was getting. He said he could not buy the rough for what I was getting cut stones for. Sadly I think those days are long past now. Their online auctions were the best.
Does anybody else have any examples they would like to share?

Hey Linda,

I have slowed down a little. Don''t know what I want...yes I do. Not much left lol! I am looking for a Tsavorite Garnet and would like an Alexandrite.I can''t afford the Alex that I would want so I am sure I will not get one of those....A friend of mine has a small pear shape with 5 green diamonds, not impressed with it. If I can''t get a good one, want get one at all!!! So I don''t know.Kinda in a slump now.
I bought a 3.89 ct. Labradorite/Andesine and a semi-mount from JTV.I just lucked up on the mount as it was the last one & was the size I needed (that never happens).I figured it would not be good quality but was impressed with it and I had it set this week and love it!So that is another one I will have appraised.

What about you??? What have you bought? I have GSN on now and Mike is on.He really has some beautiful jewery pieces...my mouth waters.

Connie

Connie,

I have it on too. LOL LOL. My hubby is working today, otherwise he looks at me watching GSN and just walks by and shakes his head ha haha.
Do you get DSN? Direct Shopping Network??? They have BEAUTIFUL gemstones. They sell alot of Andesine, Tsavorites, Alexs''s, etc. at different prices, per carat weight. I bought 5 Andesine stones and a ring. I haven''t had them appraised yet. They are gorgeous though, deep cherry red.

I really love padparadchas. I have a ring I bought from The natural sapphire company and would like to have another.

From GSN, my hubby did buy me a gorgeous emerald and diamond ring for our 25th wedding anniversary in March. It is beautiful.

I have to stop watching those three darn programs. JTV, DSN and GSN. I like the Estate pieces too with Sam. Those are really beautiful too.

Linda

BTW Connie, it is good to see you posting again.

Linda

Hee hee...It''s SO NICE to know I''m not alone!!!

I used to be really hooked on GSN...less so now. I still like to catch Sam''s show, even though it seems to me he shows a lot more new stuff lately, and less estate...

I also like Asian Collectables (when I happen to be awake
24.gif
).

I''ve learned so much since I first started watching that I''m much savier now as to what''s a good deal and what isn''t...

We should start a "show me you TV acquisitons" thread!

Thanks Linda. I just do not have the time now a days. The last time I tried to post it would not let me???? Something about cookies...yummie! Anyway here I am today.

Linda....To be honest...I like anything that sparkles. When I look at a loose gem stone now I think what am I going to do with it. It is so hard to find something and it costs so much. I had a yellow sapphire set at a remount show and they stuck it to me...Used to JTV''s prices and then you get out into the retail world and WOW!They had a yellow sapphire that was a good bit smaller than mine, less color, shallow cut and a window and they were asking $2000.00 and I paid $355.00
9.gif

I have watched DSN as it comes on late at night.Something about it I don''t like, just strange. My favorite is GSN.JTV has a lot of junk and seems to be getting more of it.The pieces they have on consignment or memo are the best.Just dont seem to have the quality they used to have...or I am getting persnickittyer.(?)

I love pads also...all sapphires. I have a small 6X4. Just would like to see these in person and pick out my stone. Then I would not be able to make up my mind and walk away without anything!!!!

Connie

I also like Asian Collectables (when I happen to be awake

Ok widget....what am I missing?

Speaking of pads. Calling WIDGET: I saw your pad in another thread. OMG it is beautiful. It is huge. Truly beautiful.

Connie: I love sapphires too. My hubby bought me a 3 stone ring for our 20th anniv from Tiffanys. It is the blue sapphire in the middle and two diamonds on the side. I love it. To be honest, I prefer the padparadsha''s better, but I would never tell him that.

Linda

I like Treasures with Sue also. She has some interesting things. I like watching Shirley too. She has the "high end" pieces from Raphael, etc. They are out of my price range though.

Linda

You just got to love a hubby that gives jewelery! I have a blue sapphire and diamond LeVian ring and a pink sapphire and diamond LeVian ring. I looked at the pink one for 2 years! I also have the multi sapphire ring, pendent, earrings and bracelet.I am nuts!...In the poor house ...lol!But I bling!!!

I know what you mean. We never go out enough for me to wear my jewelry too. We baby-sit our grandboys, so our daughter and hubby can go out, ha ha ha haha.

Linda

Thanks, Linda!

Conitta: The asian collectable show is on GSN, and is on once a week in the wee small hours Saturdays. I like their loose gemstones.
