This picture that John posted over in the JCK show thread knocked me out. Those neon blue ones (I presume paraiba-type) are absolutely electric!!

Does anyone have any idea what nice big juicy ones are going for these days?

Palagems has some nice ones on their site, but I WISH I had a vague idea of what they''re going for before I bother a dealer.

TIA

Depending on clarity and colour, it could go anywhere from $200/carat up to $500/carat. The larger pieces go for more, of course.

I am dying for one too. So can''t wait to hear how much they are going for now.

I heard $1000/ct for smaller sizes, clean, and $2000/ct for larger sizes (above 3 cts), clean.

....and of course, I like larger pieces.

Kaleigh...I''ve been drooling over these lately too. (I wonder if you are the one who started me?)

I found this ring for sale on a retail sister site of Palagems: Tourm: 3.47cts, dias: .76cts....over $23,000.

Obviously, they''re not exactly giving them away!

My tourmaline, that I posted in some threads, is very similar to that color (slightly more green) and just as neon. I paid NO WHERE near that. However, my tourmaline isn''t eye clean either (one prominent table inclusion), but it is a nice color. The price differentials are all over the place on this material, and when you compare it to the crappy Brazilian paraibas (what''s left anyways), it''s a good buy. There is one big dealer that specializes in Brazilian material, and it''s clouded, included and not that neon, and he wants at least $3000/ct for small sizes. You can get very similar looking Mozambique material for 1 tenth the price. It doesn''t make much sense.

Thanks, twodoor...

I've been following your thread with great interest. Have you decided yet which stone to keep?

They reallly do look nice, and make me wonder if I'm crazy to even consider paying big bucks for a "collector" model...

ETA: Oops...I just read your post on your other thread. Congrats on picking number two!

LOL, your description of the stone makes me think I AM crazy!!!!!

Oh they''re both mine, I own both. I just want to know which one to set first.

I think I paid much much less because I sacrafice clarity or top notch cutting for color. With these stones, it''s all about the color first and foremost. You can always change the cutting, and the clarity isn''t going to kill you if you get that electric neon color. I just wouldn''t by a stone that''s so inclusion filled that it''s opaque, but most of this material does have inclusions. I think the Mozambique material is a great buy right now, so I''m buying a lot of it, not with the intention of investment, but because I love it so much. There''s really nothing else like these electric bluish-green copper bearing tourmalines. Well do your research, and you may find some great deals out there.

Bumping this for all that are interested. I have heard $10,000 per carat for high end. Say it ain't so......

I think it''s just turned off center, don''t see a fuzzball. I guess when you''re paying prices like that, the cutting BETTER be perfect. I never understood why so many high priced rubies and sapphires and other stones are cut like if I cut them (terrible!!).

Great color, but the cut is lacking. If this was a diamond, I''d almost say a fish eye?? Or a terribly large window?? Great color though. But for me cut is key.

Here''s that seller''s other highend stone. Much less $$ than the above one. It''s only $20,000 for around 7 carats. Half price per carat of the other one. The cutting is still showing a window though. I also wonder if the color is lighter than it really is since the background looks like a similar color.
