How much do you drink?

I think culture has a lot to do with the amount we drink as well. I'm Australian born to Chinese parents and drinking was never a big thing in our family. My dad enjoyed his whiskey. My mum never touches the stuff, nor does my sister. My brother drinks a glass of red wine every now and then but not because he enjoys it - he drinks it for the health benefits. He can't stand the taste of it! I also find that out of all my friends, it's mainly the ones with asian heritage that don't drink as much. This is my experience only. It may be not be that way in the wider asian community.

In my family, we didn't grow up drinking wine with our meals - whereas it's very european to do so.

I don't drink alcohol, I don't like the taste, however I do like liqueur chocs at Christmas...strange!

I definitely think it has something to do with culture. I would drink usually about once a week and I love white or rose wine. If Im going out for dinner, usually a couple of us will share a bottle or two with the meal. A lot of socializing in Ireland occurs around the pub so we would meet up with friends around 2 times a week in the pub but I usually drive so I wouldn''t drink. I used to drink a lot more when I was in college the first time, but I can''t remember the last time i was drunk or had a hangover-thank god!!

I don''t drink much at all now - the odd glass of good wine, or champagne and occasionally a very small single malt whisky.

I think I spent 6 years permanently sozzled in Italy just through having wine with every meal and an apperitivo or 2 after work. Never really got drunk - just topped up every day

. I think this was a reaction to leaving my alcoholic ex. After 8 years where I avoided everything to do with alcohol because I didn''t want him to be near it (some chance
20.gif
), I wanted to treat it in a normal way again - Italian normal is quite a lot!

Zilch. Can''t handle any alcohol.
Ditto for me

I'm surprised how many non drinkers are here too!

I only drink Southern Comfort or Jack Daniels, and never more than 2 shots during an evening. (I don''t want anyone relieving me of my jewelry if I pass out from one drink too many

Make some space for me in there!!!!

I''m a wino!..haha. I don''t drink during the week, but do have wine...every weekend!. FI and I both love wine (red wine), we belong to the "wine of the month club!" hehe, so we get two new bottles each month to try, we love tasting new wines!. Easily 2 bottles of red wine a weekend between the both of us.

Other than wine, I don''t drink much unless I go out with friends...then I could have a mixed drink.

M~

I''m with the wino crew.

I adore good wine, and it''s very uncommon for me to open a bottle during the week, but I definiely drink a glass or two on Friday and Saturday night. I''m a lightweight, and 2 glasses are about all I can handle.

I also really love my Japanese beers with sushi. I''m going to our favourite sushi place this weekend, and I will probably get through 2 Ichibans before I can''t spell my own name, and I feel like "napping" on the sidewalk.

Me too!!!

I was kind of embarrassed at how many different wine and cocktail accessories are on our wedding registry. Wine is good for the heart and beer is actually rather healthy... and in many parts of the world is much purer than the water!

Wow, I can't believe how many people here don't drink! I grew up in a household where my parents have alcohol almost every night - 1 cocktail or 1 glass of wine. Never seen them drunk, though.

When I'm with fiance, we'll usually have a glass of red wine with dinner. It's good for your heart. Sometimes if I'm feeling celebratory, we can go through a bottle between the two of us in an evening, no problem.
I know Basil - I was thinking the same thing!

Monarch, TG and Manderine, make room for me too!

I guess for me, it's more the fact that I live in NYC and everybody here loves to go out for happy hours, parties, etc. I mean, there's a bar on ever corner here so, it's very tempting!

My girlfriends and I try to get together at least one night during the week for what we call "wine club" and it's basically our own version of a happy hour minus the beer and hard alcohol. We usually pick a cool wine bar here in the city and meet up after work for our usual gab sessions and wine. I look forward to it and so do my friends because we love each other's company, but we also enjoy a glass of wine or two.

Occasionally, my FI will have a glass with dinner (he's European and it goes hand and hand with meals), but don't drink anymore than that per night during the week...on the weekends, it's a different story!

I love a good scotch, and probably have one once or twice a week. That''s my ''at home'' drink.

And one of my secret pleasures is putting on my baseball cap, joining my neighbours at the 100 yr old local pub on a weekend afternoon, drinking a beer or two, and watching a ballgame. I don''t own a tv, so that''s the only way I CAN watch games! Plus, I love the cameraderie of cheering together with my neighbours. I know it''s a weird thing for a girly girl, but I REALLY enjoy it!

I used to go to a lot of swanky, trendy cocktail spots in Chicago with my ex, but that''s not something I can regularly afford, myself, nor can FF, so the days of getting tipsy on champagne at RL or on cosmos at Japonais are over! My liver thanks me.

So overall, I probably have about 4 drinks over the course of a week. Give or take. But I don''t remember the last time I was DRUNK.

Haha... well since I''m the one who actually mentioned BEER PONG in my post, I may need to squeeze in too!!

Not to mention regularly downing bottles of champagne over take-out with my mom... hmmm, this thread is making me re-evaluate my habits a bit...

But I do feel like a lightweight lately, compared to the good old days of college... or the pace at which my brothers and DH''s friends drink. Out at a bar on a weekend, I''ll have 4-5 vodka/club sodas... but even my own friends usually out-drink me there. So by the standards of my Philly life, I''m one of the low-key drinkers... but by the standards of this thread, I''m starting to get a bit concerned!

I drink a moderate amount. Sometimes I go out for happy hour with friends and coworkers. One of my friends throws absolutely smashing parties with sushi, bbq food, and a variety of wine, beer, mixed drinks, and blended drinks. They also have a jacuzzi and a karaoke machine. So I tend to let loose.

Mostly, my bf and I enjoy wine on the weekends and on some weekdays. Just sharing a bottle while we read/write/watch a movie. And when we go out to wine country...well, we get a little silly.

This is turning out to be a really fun thread!

We belong to a wine club-- we just joined. Three times a year we are going to get two to three bottles. But we open them at intimate dinner/wine parties. This weekend we are have a couple we are friends with over and plan on opening 2-3 bottles of wine. I LOVE the taste wine... I just sip and sip -- then stop. And when I look down (I feel like I''ve had a good amount-- never even tipsy but satisfied) I''ve only had half a glass. *shrugs* This weekend I will probably have two half glasses of wine. One a wonderful white we bought and another a really nice red Zin -- both from the Winery we went tasting at last week.

I don''t drink too much. I like to have a glass of wine every now and then, but my husband doesn''t like wine, so we usually only have it when there are other people coming over who will help me drink it. I can''t handle a whole bottle on my own!
My sister and I did go through a milk punch phase this winter, though, so we went through a moderate amount of brandy while the weather was cold.

If I''m going out for dinner, I might have a cocktail before dinner or a glass of wine with my meal, but never both. I''m partial to gin/tonic, martinis, Campari/soda, and sangria in the summer and brandy Alexanders, milk punch, Jack/coke in the winter.

Every now and then I go out for drinks with my colleagues or my sister and cousin. Usually, I just have 1 drink, though.

I don't like wine or beer. I like fruity cocktails but only if I can't taste the alcohol, aka has to be really good alcohol and has to be mixed properly. Give me a glass of sweet sangria and I can drink half the pitcher, same with some tasty type of icy cocktail or a guava blended margarita!! But a table with wine or beers I won't even touch. I do love dessert wine aka moscato or ice wine but you typically don't drink much of that since it's so intense. I would say on average I have a drink about once every 2 weeks...and almost always when out at dinner but sometimes if we are traveling I might drink 2-3 days in a row aka a cocktail a night. Greg drinks about one beer or two glasses of wine almost every night with dinner. He enjoys pairing beer or wine with diff types of food. He goes to BevMo like once a month to stock up on fun German beers and new wines and that is a trip he anticipates with glee!! I know he wishes I enjoyed wine the way he does but unfortunately I just really don't though there are one or two Rieslings at some restaurants we like, so I will drink a glass of with him from time to time. But he almost always has a designated driver which he loves. hehee.

Well, there's a 5 out of a 6 pack of Corona in the refrigerator from well over a year ago....if that tells you anything.

ETA: There are also 2 half bottles of wine that were here before I got here 2 1/2 years ago.

hubby drinks a glass of wine or beer just about every night with dinner. I''ll normally have a glass of wine when we have company or go out to eat, sometimes 2 glasses but that is my limit. I love a lot fruity drinks too and will have a pina colada or strawberry margarita when having mexican food. oh and I''m not a beer drinker but my friend introduced me to Woodchuck''s amber beer which totally takes like a kicked up apple juice. It''s really, really yummy and will buy it occasionally too.

OH! Mara have you been to Rosenblum Vineyards? It''s in Alameda (in two airplane hangers) they have this muscato that litterally tasted like heaven. Best I''ve ever had. Light and not too intense but just fabulous. I would totally encourage you to go there and try some (tastings are free).. we tried some other dessert tines and they were very good too all of them were light in style and very aromatic.

nope Gypsy haven't been there but it sounds yummy!!! we tend to not go to wine tastings really, because i am not a wine drinker so there's typically not much for me to do...hehee. when we go to napa we stay downtown away from the wineries, but there are tasting rooms in downtown so you can just go to one of those and taste like 10 diff wines and buy them there if you want. so we tend to do that and then i shop in the boutiques while greg is wine tasting hehee. but yeah i love me a good moscato!!! ice wine too, mmmmm, so thick and sweet. TG brought me a yummy looking moscato when she visited last week, i keep eyeing it, but i can't open it until we have a party with a bunch of people because again, i can only have a little since it's typically intense so i don't want to waste it!!!
