Hello everyone, I have a diamond ring I got as a gift from my ex but now need the cash since we are no longer together. I want to know how much to ask for when I sell it to a jewellery buyer. I don't want to get lowballed. Thanks in advance and much appreciated. Here is what I got as appraisal from GIA:

Weight: 1.55 carats(Big rock)
Clarity: I-3
Color : GH
Cut: Good

Also containing six single cut diamonds measurign approximately 1.40-1.50mm.

Weight: 0.10 carats approximate
Clarity: SI
Color: FG
Cut: Good

In order to get a decent price (and that means around 50% of the original price at best), it needs an actual GIA lab report, not an appraisal from a gemmologist with GIA certification. This will also nail down the exact colour and clarity grade. I can tell you that in spite of its size, because of the I3 clarity, you aren't going to get a lot for it.

Thanks for the reply. Where do I find " actual GIA lab report"? I saw a gem specialist who told me exactly what my diamond characteristics are. According to the appraisal the value for insurance purpose is at $5100. Can you tell me based on the 4Cs what my rock is worth? Much appreciated.

The jeweller can send it to GIA on your behalf or you can contact (email or call) GIA directly to inquire as to where to send the diamond. The gemmologist did not tell you exactly what the diamond's specifications are. The colour grading is an estimate. The lab will tell you whether it is G or H, not G/H. Split grading does not exist on the report. They also use a master stone set, so their grading is more accurate and your stone could end up being of lower colour. It is unlikely that the clarity and colour will be higher than the estimate given by the local gemmologist you saw. Appraisals are also usually highly inflated and the item can be replaced brand new for around 50% to 75% of the stated value. Take another 50% off for the second-hand market pricing and you might be able to sell it for around $1500. This is just a guess because the 4 Cs you stated are estimates.
