Hi everyone. I was just wondering how often everyone buys gemstones and how many gemstones, on average, you purchase a year. I think that I have bought about six this year, not including several pieces of jewelry.

I tend to buy one every couple of months.

This year has been an exception and I''ve bought well over 40, plus some pieces of jewellery.

One every couple of months.

It varies. It depends on whether there is one that screams at me. If not, and I get the gem itch, I go out and buy cheap and pretty ones to satisfy myself.

It varies. I go through spells, the last few months I''ve bought a couple for jewelry.

*whispers* far too often!

I can''t believe that I bought diamonds, and not coloured stones, this week!

haha no travesty when they''re gorgeous french cuts!

Wow! I wish I could buy that much sparkly stuff. But, being 18 and only working as a page does not give me the budget to buy as often as I would like. However, this year I bought more than I ever have, both stones and jewelery.

I tried, but they came out as blobs. You can''t see their high crowns and wee culets.

HI:

Mine always seem to be set in jewellery--and are often Estate pieces.

cheers--Sharon

Umm...I bought my first one in August (and technically, it was BF''s gift to me), but since then, I''ve bought...6 more! Wow. I usually try to space the purchases out, and plan out my ring projects and buy stones accordingly...but I have to admit, I have a really really hard time resisting stones that Jeff White cuts. I''ve bought two from his Gemscoop, and asked him to cut another specifically for me...

If this trend keeps up next year thought, I might be in trouble!

Too often!

My hubby saw me at my laptop this evening and slide over to me (on his swivel chair) and chanted "handbags and jewelry, handbags and jewelry..".

I didn't buy anything last year due to some family health issues. Now that things are back to normal, I'm on a splurge. I've actually been buying a lot off of ebay (I know, I know, not everyone's favorite place to shop), but I scored some amazing stones at amazing prices. I just stay away from rubies, sapphires, emeralds and spinels on ebay. Here's a 4 carat rhodolite antique cut garnet I just got. Sorry, I know I post way too many pics (me bad), but I had to share my latest ebay find. I love this stone.

I''ve only bought 2, and both this year.

I buy ones I really like. Sadly, I only tend to like the pricer ones, so I don''t get as many.

Hey, what else did you buy besides the tsavorite?

The sapphire! My first colored stone purchase :-)

If you want to see the sapphire, you can look at page 2 of the "show me your sapphire" thread up top.

It''s lovely. You have good taste.

Btw, how did you guess that I''m holding out for a Kashmiri?

Thanks, sapphires are my favorite.

How did I guess? It is something you would hold out for! You are not one to settle.

...I also remember you saying you want one, I am known for my memory. That is how I survived medical school.

Ah, you know me well. Are med school finals closed book? Law school ones are open book but you don''t really have time to look at them.

Oh yeah they are. So are boards. You can''t even have a calculator!

Good grief. You have my sympathy.
