Okay, ever since I went to the Grainger Hall of Gems at the Field Museum, I fell in love with a fire opal they had there. Looked around for some, but they were always too yellow, too hazy, or just not right. Well, I finally found one I liked from a precision factetor in Germany. It''s almost 15 carats and 16mm x 14mm deep.

Here''s the vendor photo, which is very true to life.

Here it is next to my 6 carat Loliondo spessartite from Gene to give you an idea of the color and size.

It''s so big I can''t fit it all on my monitor!

Maybe a nose ring?

Wow, it looks like the sun!

is this that thing they''re trying to ignite at the National Ignition Facility?

You''re too funny. The dealer is reserving me this rose quartz too. It''s 63 carats!!!!

I think it has the same gravitational effect too due to it''s large mass!! LOL!

that''s sweet!

Ahahahahaha!

That last one made me laugh out loud :) But seriously, that stone is FANTASTIC! Any plans for it?

Careful Harry Potter doesn''t come looking for it.

I actually want to do a ring. Yes, I don''t mind wearing ginormous rings.

That is really pretty, TK. BTW, I have a carved rose quartz cab from Barry at acstones. It is 67 ct and I haven't figured out what to do with the thing. I'm thinking about carrying it around in my pocket and using it as a worry stone.

Very pretty! 63 carats on that rose quartz? Is there a fainting emotie?

I just have the vendor photo.

Your idea sounds lovely. It should make for a stunning pendant.

That is a beautiful gem!!! Is it hard enough to safely wear daily? Or is it the same hardness as crystal, and black opal?

Nice stuffs! I have a garnet on its way too

WOW, it is humangous! Really beautiful as well! I like the shape.

Wow, seriously beautiful!

Awesome fire opal; it dwarfs the already large Loliondo and makes it look yellow by comparison. It’s going to be super and unique in a ring. Have you decided on a design yet? Yellow metal I presume?

Thank you all for the kind words.

I've seen faceted fire opals in rings before, but you do have to be careful not to knock them around. I'm thinking a halo on this one in 18KYG. They are as hard as tanzanite, 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, and so it does require some care. I'm very careful with my rings.

Chrono,
As for the comparison to the Loliondo from Gene, it is more yellow than the fire opal, but it sparkles more and is more durable, so there's give and take there. I wish the fire opal was a real spessartite with that color!! I did buy it for the color, and the faceting is just wonderful though, and is an added bonus.

I just bought the rose quartz at a substantial discount, and I'm pretty excited about it. He said it's from Madagascar and just has a little silk. I may have this one set with an etsy dealer.

Amguy, yes, the dealer is Uli and his website is Osirisgems.com.

Thank you flygirl for sharing your carved rose quartz, it's pretty.
