Hello knowledgeable folks! I have set my heart on a custom designed ring which centres around a Crisscut or Ashoka style diamond. However not only are they hard to find loose when you are not in the trade, but almost impossible! So instead I am considering this one which I think would look equally as nice:

The main reason for initially wanting a ‘branded‘ diamond is to essentially take the hard work out of choosing a well cut diamond - but perhaps I am wrong in thinking that?

Whilst I have some knowledge of diamonds and what to look for, I am unfamiliar with hybrid styles and because I can’t see it in person (will have to order online) its hard to judge on GIA certificate and video alone. I will request for the ASET but my main concern is amount of fire - to me it looks like the crown is quite low, or do you think that wouldn’t make a difference? I know it is personal preference however the reason I am going for this cut over EC is because I prefer the more ‘sparkle‘ and fire (don’t get me wrong I do love an EC!)
Does table size/depth in these cuts make a big difference?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you so much in advance :-)

I too am a fan of the branded cuts you mention along with several other similar cuts too. I have inspected many of these in person and have owned two myself. From the video this one looks to be a very nice example. I would suggest putting it on hold as soon as possible in case someone else snaps it up.

You are correct that these types of cuts often favour white light return over fire, however based on the video, i would expect that the one you are considering would show visible fire as well as brilliance and scintillation.

If you can get an ASET image for it then do post it here for further help. If not then it would be worth viewing person in my opinion.

It looks pretty decent to me as far as distinct well-defined facets turning on/off as the stone moves.

I believe adiamor has a good return policy. I might would order it without it being set and make sure its what I was looking for. I think it
is promising. Post the aset when you get it (I've never seen an aset on a "crisscut" type stone before). I'm sure we can find some examples
out there to compare it with though.

(I could not get the return policy page to come up...)

Thanks both, very helpful! I have also found another one which I am mulling over, less carat weight but similar measurements in a D colour, again online. I will ask for the ASET for both and post for you to consider - unfortunately the stones are in US and I am here in Dubai, so ideally I can make a decision based on facts, although I agree its better to have seen them first-hand!

@diamondhoarder I have read all of your previous threads with interest! I particularly liked that you didn’t give up the search to find a Prince Cut!

One thing to note about Adiamor's policy.

They now, due to delays or whatever else, require you to send an item back at your own expense via USPS registered mail.

This isn't that expensive (well, depends on the item) but it is very, very slow and has very particular packaging requirements

Be aware that it could take several weeks for your return to arrive. And if you are relying on those funds to make another purchase - adiamor was prompt with the return but it took forever to get there.

Thanks for the heads up!!

Interesting...I did finally get the return policy page to come up. It does not say free returns (so in other words, you pay).
It does say that refunds are usually processed within 4 days of receiving and inspecting the product (how long does an inspection take?)

I had the refund within a few business days - it just took the package almost three weeks to go coast to coast.

Even though the return label is usually deducted from your refund, I just wanted to point out it does not go by overnight UPS or FedEx the way we might be accustomed to with others.

Be aware that the same diamond is sometimes offered by multiple vendors- if you decide on one you prefer and you haven't already put it on hold you may be able to purchase through another vendor with an easier return policy. For example B2C jewels can usually source the same diamonds as Adiamor.

I'm glad my posts were helpful- it's good that someone else can benefit from the info I have discovered during my long and winding search through various hybrid step and branded cuts :D

A great number of hybrid cut diamonds exist. Most are round shapes, but some happen to have fancy shape outlines. Most of these were designed to just be a variation of a shape with unusual or added facets. It makes them very difficult to comparison shop and that often is the goal. Only a few of these unusual diamonds have had any big acceptance. Most are created, marketed and become somewhat forgotten in the larger scheme of things. Sometimes such diamonds persist because the cutter and dealer which owns them has the money and a strong desire to see it stay in the market regardless of success. They want to claim it is successful. Think politics!

I like Criss cut diamonds. They are sparkly in comparison to standard emerald cuts. I doubt they are all cut with exacting concern for how their ASET image will look. They likely look quite good. Find what you like and make sure it works for you. It may or may not have a totally perfect ASET, but should look just well above an average emerald cut. These are different and that's what these cuts are all about.

Well thank you for your advice all- I clearly shouldn’t have posted the link on here before putting it on hold because its sold now :-(
So back to the search!

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. That's why I suggested putting it on hold when you first posted - nice ones do get snapped up quickly. There's always a chance that it's just been reserved and not sold so I would follow up in a couple of days and check if it really is sold.

Also try Bluenile, James Allen and B2C as they also have these hybrid cuts. Try searching under cushion, emerald and radiant because they show up under various categories.

Thank you, yes I’ve checked all those but nothing suitable atm unfortunately. Anywayno rush hopefully they’ll get some new stock in over next few months.
I actually emailed to ask how to put it on hold but by the time they replied it had gone- do you know how to place something on hold on their website/james allen/etc for example?
will check back just to make sure its gone in a few days! Thanks again!

My suggestion would be with any of the vendors to call them directly or use their live chat facility rather than email especially if wanting to put something on hold or purchase. It's more immediate.

Oh no...I'm so sorry! That really stinks. I did see one on JA but dont think its in your specs. I'm sure you already found it.
Do you have particular specs/budget? We can all keep our eyes open.

Edit...just looked for the one on JA but not seeing it now.

Hi! Thanks yes a bit annoying especially because that diamonds GIA report was Nov 2019, so its not like it was new to the market I dont think! Lesson learnt wont be posting my next find on a public forum ha!
yes I saw that one on JA but its a bit narrow proportion and not so good clarity either.. anyway will keep an eye out and everyones help on this thread has been great!
