Sighh... it just isn''t going to be mine (I don''t have a spare $60 000 and I don''t think I can wear a 10ct. stone in my e-ring), but I am in love with the colour of this emerald cut sapphire from NSC. I am planning to upgrade the center stone of my three-stone emerald cut sapphire and diamond e-ring in the next year, and I want a stone that looks just like this, only a little smaller

... Maybe 1.75ct.

Do you all think this is a pretty colour too, or am I out to lunch? I am still developing my "eye"...

Wow, that''s a beauty. I think color is a matter of personal preference but I do like this color. My sapphires are a little darker - more of a royal blue but I like this color as well.

Marcy,

My current stone is in the royal blue family too, I love those darker colours as well! But it doesn''t show the steps in the emerald cut

, so I think I want to get this type of Ceylon/neon/lighter blue for my center stone... then I can return my current stone to its original setting and my original e-ring will be intact for sentimental reasons, but I can have a giant, bright, blingy three-stone too! haha... a girl can dream!

Yes, indeedy! I do love that color!!!

it is a stunning color!
That is the blue I like for sapphires.
You have great taste DD!

I love this color! It's just about the same color as my car-which is fantastic because it's my favorite color!

Sorry for the random car pic-but I'm totally on board with you for this color! The pic is just proof!

ETA: The pic doesn't do the car color justice--it's got more of a hint of violet-just like your stone!

Yes, I love that stone and the color. It is so beautiful.

Catmom, Catimundi, and Linda: Phew, thats good to know you all agree! I am learning a lot around here... I know colour is a preference, but for example, one thing I learned is that an undertone of grey is something I don''t really like in a blue stone, and without lots of practice looking at colours, that undertone isn''t always apparent at first (at least to my untrained eye). But once it is pointed out, or a grey-undertone stone is held next to an electric blue stone, I can see it and don''t like it!

Funny...

Frekechild, you are lucky to have a car that colour... if you go sapphire shopping you can just point to it and tell the vendor: "One like that please!"

And is that a Corgi in your avatar!! I love corgis, we almost got one until we read that they need lots of excercise! So we got mini-dachshunds instead, they are much more lazy!

Dreamer, that color is GAW-JUS. I''ve looked at that stone more than a few times myself. My stone is a pretty dark blue too, and sometimes I wish I had something like an emerald cut that would reflect light a little more.

Frekechild, my car is a "Aurora" blue Mazda3, and I joke that I got it to match my ring!

good color....stone and car!

my e-ring is an 8.18 carat spessartite....don''t rule out a large color stone for an e-ring.

Fantastic colour. Yes, for step cuts, that lighter brighter colour is best suited.

selkie: are there any pictures of your sapphire on here? I have probably seen it but it doesn''t pop into my mind immediately... I have fallen for these lighted coloured stones, and though it makes me feel guilty to think of "rejecting" the stone my DH proposed with, we wants me to have a drop dead ring and doesn''t care if it doesn''t involve our original stone!

movie zombie: I have seen your e-ring, it is AMAZING! I am not sure I am ready yet to wear 10cts, but never say never! I am getting more and more used to larger and larger stones here on PS. I may have frekechild''s car on my finger before too long!

Thanks for the vote of confidence chrono, I really respect your judgement and I''m sure when I actually start the process of having my new stone cut I will be seeking your advice on here! And the advice of all you other generous people!

FYI: My plan is to have Jeff White source out the rough and cut my stone so I get exactly what I want. He said he has a source in Sri Lanka for good Ceylon sapphire in the colour range of the stone I posted, and I am going to see if he can make a step-cut with lots of steps for added sparkle. So many emerald cut sapphires I see only have 1-2 steps, does anyone know why? I love the way his royal asscher stones look (a la Chrono''s pinky and neatfreaks blue boy) with 6 steps on the pavilion rather than 3, and I wonder is a similarly large number of steps can be used to make an extra sparkly emerald cut too?

Jeff is the right way to go. A highly recommended cutter. he cut both my pinky and NF''s in the Royal Asscher style. This was done to help with colour, achieve that crazy miles deep steps look, and the octogon shape with large corners and windmills. Many other step cuts are just the generic emerald 3 step cut.

This is exactly what I want in my stone too, but in a rectangular shape rather than square. Do you know of any reason that the same cutting style used on pinky can''t be used for a rectangular stone too?

I was originally thinking of having a stone cut to replace my center stone in the same size so I could re-use my setting, but now that I fell in love with your and neatfreaks step-cuts, I want to wait to get a larger stone (maybe 8.5 x 6.5, the side stones are 5.5 x 4) so that I can really appreciate the cut and colour better. Plus I want to cover more finger realestate!

Oh, that''s lovely! That is my favorite blue for sapphires.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!That would be the best ring ever! It's got some inclusions on one of the corners-but I'm sure some lovely prongs would take care of that!!!

ETA: And my corgi is a pretty awesome dog, he's going to be 15 this year, but very sweet and so intelligent. My dad makes him go for walks in the morning with him, but other than that he's not very energetic anymore. Although he did like to pull me around on roller blades when I was younger. When he was younger we had another dog, and they kept each other pretty well conditioned, because they'd heard each other all over our yard, which was pretty entertaining. I'd recommend them for anyone, they're great dogs!

Mine is "Electron Blue Pearl". I love the color. Its about 75% of the reason I got the car. As soon as they came out with the color, I started saving my pennies. It was the only year they made the Honda Prelude in that color, and there are only about 4 in my city with a population of about 500,000. Now I need to work on getting a sapphire that color. Perhaps I should take it to a jeweler and tell them to find me one thats the same color as my car.

BTW I have about 4 pairs of shoes I''ve bought because they were so similar in color to my car. It would not be a far stretch at all to match my car to my jewelry. After all, I already have shoes that match too!!

Maybe I should consider this color for the e-ring...

Since I already added my car to help prove my love of the color of the gorgeous sapphire. I thought I''d add another pic.

Yup, I''m obsessed with blue.

That color is PERFECT for the emerald cut. I LOVE the darker royal blue color of your stone, but I can see what you mean about wanting a lighter color to show off the steps more.- Just draws your eye right in...

I would love to see this 10ct baby..yummy!

Wow! That is one beautiful sapphire.

dreamer_dachsie...is that a sweet little dappled dachsie I see in your avatar?? Is it a long hair? I have smooth coated dapple sitting right here next to me as I type this. [a smooth red too!!]

Thanks for your votes of confidence Clio, SDL (living in a car isn''t so bad I am sure, you''d get used to the small space I am sure!

) and Missrocks (I love the colour of your stone, btw, perfection!)! I am s oglad that you all agree that this colour is to die for!

Frekechild: Gorgeous shoes, they are also the perfect sapphire colour! And you are so lucky to have had your dog with you for 15 years... I hope our little muppets live that long too! They''re only 2 now.

Vivianv: Yes he is a long haired silver dapple! And our other dog is a long haired red! We are dog twins!

DD,
My guess is that the effect will be different on a rectangular stone vs a perfectly square stone. Best to ask Jeff to be sure though.

I can see why you fell in love, it is beautiful!

If you are out to lunch, than I am sitting next to you. That color does it for me! The price is a tad steep...but that color has me diving in! Yum.

San Diego lady...which part of town cuz I''m here too!
