Today I needed to touch some diamonds other than my own. I just needed a fresh supply. So I went into a store I had been eyeing when I went to the grocery store in a neighboring town, an unpretentious looking place called, "Diamond Creations" in McLean, Virginia. I looked at diamond rings, both because I wanted to see if a two carat stone still looked too big in a ring and because I wanted to see if any eternity bands looked like one I had seen on Pearlman's site around the time of my thirtieth anniversary, and at tennis bracelets (I still dream of having Wink make me one someday).

My point is that I just needed to go into a store an try on some diamond jewelry.

The urge does not come over me often. I am respectful of jewelers' time and do not just play around in stores...and I had not been into a jewelry store just to try on diamonds in some time. But I really felt a need to do it. I know it's silly. I wouldn't tell this to refugees from Iraq or Somalia if I happened to be conversing with them. But given that this is a diamond board and that I cannot solve the world's problems whether or not I spent half an hour trying on diamonds....I hope others among you sometimes need to do this? Just get next to some gems?

Deb, feeling a bit guilty ;-)

Well we don''t have that many jewellery stores here but they all recognise me when I go in. Does this help lol!!

LOL Deb, I spent today playing with settings at a store around the corner from me today at lunch and now I''m thinking about finding a lovely yellow radiant to fit into one of the things I became particularly fond of when I should have instead been sitting at my desk eating a Lean Cuisine...

deb, i know you don''t post in the actual ''diamond'' parts of this DIAMOND forum but it still is a diamond forum!

asking jewel maddened women on diamond and jewelry message board if they go into jewelry stores to ogle jewelry is like going to a car forum and asking if anyone goes to look at other cars. or, gardeners if they go to greenhouses or brides go to bridal shops.

uhhhh.....YES

the answer is yes.

I do it at least once a week. Trouble is, I end up falling in love with something and obsessing over it.

I haven''t met a jewelry store yet that I could walk by without stopping in for a peek.

Whenever I travel, the FIRST thing I do after I''ve checked in is hit the yellow pages to see what jewelry stores are around worth visiting.

If there were nothing else around, and I was in a town for any length of time, I''m sure I''d end up at Jerod''s to look at their wares..

No, AGBF....you are DEFINITELY not alone! LOL

Holy Moses ... I felt like this last week. It was like a fever came over me & after a couple o'' wet, hot days ... finally broke.

I was so *relieved* when that one *opportunity* passed - & the immediate sense of urgency was over.

Still entranced - but not OBSESSED. Is that what going into *heat* is like??

You are definitely not alone!!! I stop in a jewelry stone every now and then when I get the craving. I try not to go very frequently though...because as others have said then you start to obsess about something.

Alone? Not in the slightest. Sometimes I get great ideas from browsing. And feeling the beauties on my skin.

AGBF, you know the old expression "stop and smell the roses?" Sounds like you just needed to stop and touch some sparklies!

So, did the store have a good selection??

HI:

Deb, I did this at Easter. While visiting my hometown I stopped into a swish store, had no intention of buying, just trying. I really enjoyed seeing many designers work in one shop--putting faces to names (as seen in mags/online).

You'll get no guilt vibes from me.......BTW Deb, do you like anything by Verdura? They have a devine 18K gold criss cross cuff that is gnawing at me. Talk about being OBSESSED! I have to STOP myself from calling NYC and having them send it to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.verdura.com/

cheers--Sharon

nopers...
but lately I haven''t been going and put my collection away in the closet, too depressing :{

I didn''t until now, Sharon. Thank you for posting the link. I saw the bracelets that have taken your fancy. Very nice. We know I am highly susceptible to gold jewelry, however. I actually buy that! It was my sudden desire to get up close and personal with some diamonds ( which I do not buy every day) that had me feeling guilty!
