Today I needed to touch some diamonds other than my own. I just needed a fresh supply. So I went into a store I had been eyeing when I went to the grocery store in a neighboring town, an unpretentious looking place called, "Diamond Creations" in McLean, Virginia. I looked at diamond rings, both because I wanted to see if a two carat stone still looked too big in a ring and because I wanted to see if any eternity bands looked like one I had seen on Pearlman's site around the time of my thirtieth anniversary, and at tennis bracelets (I still dream of having Wink make me one someday).
My point is that I just needed to go into a store an try on some diamond jewelry.
The urge does not come over me often. I am respectful of jewelers' time and do not just play around in stores...and I had not been into a jewelry store just to try on diamonds in some time. But I really felt a need to do it. I know it's silly. I wouldn't tell this to refugees from Iraq or Somalia if I happened to be conversing with them. But given that this is a diamond board and that I cannot solve the world's problems whether or not I spent half an hour trying on diamonds....I hope others among you sometimes need to do this? Just get next to some gems?
Deb, feeling a bit guilty
