Hi everyone!

I was almost about to pull the pin and order the La Sposa Laurel... but today I visted a consignment shop in town and I fell in love with this dress - I just had to buy it.

The orginal owner of the dress fell pregnant and couldn''t wear the dress for her wedding. I got is at a bargin for $700!

The dress is silk, simple and so nice to wear. I will need to have it taken in a little and I think i Will have it altered so that the are buttons all the way down the back and the silouette is a bit more trumpet/mermaid.

I''m also thinking of altering the strap so that it falls to one side rather than crossing the back. What do you guys think?

Personally I think it''s beautiful as is. Congrats on getting such a good price too.

Beautiful dress! I prefer the strap to one side versus across the back. I love the drape of the dress and I think once you have it fitted properly it will accentuate your shape naturally versus needing the full mermaid cut. I''m not sure I''d care for that style with the fabric and the way is falls.

i love it!!! I prefer the strap on the one side as you want to alter it so that it doesn''t cross your back.

Gorgeous, a little unique, and a great deal

Lovely dress! It is very classy and gorgeous! I too prefer the strap where you have suggested relocating it. Can''t wait to see the final product!

very lovely dress! I love the front!

What an amazing find. I think I like the strap across the back, only because on the same side it looks like it might fall off? As long as it feels secure and like you won''t have to be pulling it up all the time then it would be fine.

It''s a beautiful dress though and looks amazing on you. CONGRATS!!!

Yes, it looks to me like it''s not meant to be on one-side and may need fixing often during your wear. Anyway, I prefer the strap across the back simply because you don''t see many styles like that. It gives it something to look at in the back rather than a simple (these days) common one shoulder dress that we''re seeing everywhere.

Its gorgeous

Sounds like you got a great deal. I''m wondering what it would look like if, rather than pushing the strap all the way over to the other side as it is in the picture, you just moved the strap to the other sides of the buttons. That way, it wouldn''t cross your back, but it would also look a little more secure and interesting.

Agree with this. Looks lovely on you!

I think it''s gorgeous!!!!!!!!!

What a stunning and elegant dress! I would absolutely keep the strap going across the back, but I am a sucker for detail on otherwise understated designs.

that''s the exact placement i was thinking of when i looked at the photos too!
and what a gorgeous dress!! p.s. i''m a sucker for buttons all the way down the hem; thinking of altering that on my dress too!

Love it! I think your alteration suggestion is great, I prefer it that way too. But apart from that, what a fantastic find!

That is a beautiful dress! What a find. I like the buttons as they are but moving the strap is a nice touch, so long as it will still securely stay in place rather than slip off your shoulder. It is quite lovely!

I have to agree.

It''s a gorgeous dress!

I agree with everything pinki says. I hope it turns out just how you want!

Very pretty dress! I like the strap off to one side and think you should do it that way.

Thanks for your kind words everyone. It confirms that I''ve made the right decisions (buying it then and there without my mother or MOH seeing it first)

I would have never thought of this. What a great idea monkeyprincess! I''m going to take some photos with the strap like this tonight and post them to see what you all think.

Another thing i''ve noticed in the photos (didn''t notice when it was on) is that the seems seem to puker a lot. This could be because the dress is not pressed but I''m wondering if that''s also a feature so silk dutchess satin? I noticed it around the train while trying it on in the store but I figured I''d need it taken in anyway and a good alterations lady would be able to do the seams without the puckering - do you know if my train of thought is correct?

oh and just because I can (and everyone likes pictures) here is a detail of the bodice
