... I went to a jewelry store and tried on e-rings! And it felt a little dirty
31.gif
... and I liked it!
I went all by myself, and took my time, and told everyone that I wasn't buying anything because no one had any Trillions for me to try on, but I did find a setting that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE at Jared. I had been looking at settings online for a few years, and narrowed down a few looks that I thought I liked, but I realized that I needed to see them in real life. GOOD DECISION! They look and feel very different in person. SO and I are going to contact some PS vendors when we are ready to find a stone, but as for the setting, I am in LOVE
30.gif
. Sadly, the picture on their site is horrible and does it no justice at all... I will look around the net a bit to see if I can find a comparable pic. It was fun trying on Tacori's and other settings, and seeing these HUGELY magnified rings as dainty and beautiful settings. I tried on some halos, and almost forgot all about my Trillion! Lol. There were beautiful emerald cuts, dazzling rounds and radiants, and I even got to try a mock kite-set princess. The whole experience was kind of like dreaming about something, and then having a MASSIVE deja vu. Anyways, just wanted to let everyone know what I did today.

I'm very pleased to know EXACTLY what I like and don't like.

Now I just need to get SO in there with me
32.gif
lol!

Would love to hear about other first time experiences

The first time trying on rings is awesome
36.gif
Congrats for taking that step!!!

My first time was at the Miami Seybold building (2nd largest jewerly exchange in the US). The very first ring I tried on was $40,000!! I couldn''t believe it. I was so disappointed LOL.

The second time was with my boyfriend and at Jared''s. I fell in love with a setting there too!! It was so much fun going with him...so much better than the first time with my girl friend.

Yay for you!!

Yay, so exciting! Isn''t it amazing how different settings can look in person? And the online pics don''t do ANY rings justice, they always sparkle so much more than you expect.

Yay for you, I''m excited for you! I know exactly what you mean by dream, deja vu. It''s like you''ve pictured it in your head so many times, then when you do it, it feels like you already have!

Here''s hoping SO gets in there soon!

OMG, Fiery, I would have been UTTERLY overwhelmed. I was pretty intimidated by the selection even at Jared, but I am glad I saw the one that I LOVE
30.gif
, because if I go back with SO, I don''t want him to be freaked out by me trying on EVERYthing that I see, lol!

Ash,

Yeah, of course I came home like a blathering idiot going on about rings, which I think was a bit TOO much for SO out of the blue
32.gif
. We are long distance, so we will talk about things this weekend, and possibly get out to look at rings, if I think he can handle it without having a panic attack.
2.gif
I think he is a bit alarmed at my 0 to 60 behavior, because I have been the one that was disinterested in marriage, and I suddenly went into "almost ready" mode, as we women have a tendency to do. I told him that we are just having a conversation about preferences, and that he should know what rings styles I like just like I know his pants size and he knows my shoe size. He''s never bought me shoes either, but he would at least know the size that would fit me, so he should know the same about a ring.
9.gif
I really am not pushing for a ring, I just am excited to know what I like, and would like to know what he likes too.

Sigh... I think I need to stay off of PS for a while so I can stop thinking about e-rings! LOL!

Yeah, I sort of did the 0-60 thing, too. I am ready, but honestly my life is so crazy with full-time grad school and full-time work that it sort of seemed like it would be way overwhelming if we got engaged. Then, he suggested we start looking at rings, and I was suddenly in full wedding planning mode!

I try not to bring it up constantly, but he just laughs because I get so excited about it.

I think you phrased it well, that we''re just talking about preferences, these are things you should know, etc. Keeping it fun and light-hearted takes the pressure off

I''m happy you found "The One" for you! That''s probably one of the hardest decisions a woman has to make (assuming she has input on her ering). I wish I had the will to go into a store to try on some rings. I have been living vicariously through you PSers thus far. I just have always had this Thing with not going into stores unless I know I at least want to buy something from there. I don''t have to buy something from every store I go into, but I want to have an idea of something I would buy there if they had it. It drives my browsing SO crazy haha

After we talk this weekend, I am going to do my best to put the issue to rest... we'll see how THAT goes, lol
20.gif
. I am also in grad school, and he lives 300 miles away, and we haven't quite figured out how to change that, but we are pretty non-traditional, and he may get excited and propose anyway! Crazy my SO...

I DID also do the 0-60 wedding planning before I did the 0-60 ring thing, but it was easy, because I want to elope.
31.gif
I just have to figure out how to do that AND not have my family hate me.

dream wedding = officiant, bride, groom, photographer, guitarist playing spanish guitar, a wedding arch, a bottle of champagne and 2 flutes, and 2 cupcakes.

LOL, Indy, I am VERY much the same way, but I was just going CRAZY with wondering if certain setting were going to look "right" on my finger. I am so glad I did, because some rings "looked" fine, but I didn't like the feel of how wide they were. SO is the type to go out and buy something pretty impulsively, so it's really important to me that I can communicate clearly what I do like. I can let him know several styles that I really like, though I do have my
30.gif
setting in mind. He will probably think it's weird.
20.gif
Haha, should have dated an architect rather than an engineer!
2.gif
At any rate, about the stores, the sales people don't really mind unless they are busy, but they ASSUME that you, as the woman, are not buying this ring. Go to a few shops and get a feel for what you like. I think women in particular can relate to being excited about diamonds and settings!

I attached a picture of a setting that gives you the *feel* for the setting that I love, but the real one is MUCH more delicate and beautiful than this. It was the closest thing I could find though...

That is so pretty! I am a BIG fan of matching up diamond bands with plain bands!
30.gif
It's good to know about the salespeople, I need to know which chain stores are most accomodating though. I don't imagine buying my diamond from a B&M but I would like to try on some different stone sizes to see which proportion I like best. My boyfriend said he went one time to a B&M store & asked to see a two carat ring & the salesguy REFUSED to show it to him. He was like, "Do you expect me just to pull out a two carat ring?" I was furious when I heard the story b/c it was very rude & it's not like my SO was asking to see the Hope Diamond! Anyway, I'm sure I'll be visiting some stores later on when the engagement is closer & hopefully I get the same feeling you do & find The One!
