gypsy,

i''ve been following your saga from the venting about the boss posts to prepping for the interview, post interview and now this. congratulations! i just wanted to say that your pros and cons list says it all - and while change is always the more difficult route i hope you settle into your new role wonderfully. also, as someone else pointed out...you''ve shown that you can find employment relatively easily so even if you find that you don''t like the position you move to, there is always the next one waiting for you.

congratulations again!

Swingirl, I hope you can make it to the GTG! It would be lovely to spend more time with you!

Thank you Flopkins for the clarification! I was confuzzled. You are right, I need a change! Long time no see! Might you be able to make the GTG this weekend?

Thank you MadameB, and Delster (I''m thinking of a new wallet!

), and Sarah, and iwanna, and jasa (Hi honey!).

Lady P, yes, I talked to John somemore, I had weird dreams, and thought some more. I''m going to do it. I''m terrified-- don''t care too much for change. But I''m going to do it. You guys have really helped with this decision, and so has my family and John.

I dont know any details really, but congratulations on the hopeful improvement of circumstances! and at the very least, the improvement of your jewelery collection

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! *hugs* You''re going to be awesome at it!

THank you WHFSR! And LadyP. My background check came back approved! So... omg. I'm gonna do it. Give up this job for the chance at something better. YIKES!!! Crap. So nervous.

OK. So VP is apparently in a REALLY bad mood today. REALLY bad. So... um gonna say discretion better part of valor and wait till tomorrow. Funny thing is I have a screening interview today at lunch with another place. Too late to cancel that, without being rude, as they are driving down here to interview me, but.... well, I've got my job now.

Congratulations! I think you are making a smart decision and you totally deserve a great new start. I wish I could be there for your bye-bye demon boss moment. Serious Kudos, Gypsy.

Gypsy, this is so exciting!! Congratulations!!!

Can you sneak in a small video camera to the moment where Demon Boss lady hears the news? Please? A webcam will do too...

Gypsy,
Congrtulations!! This is great news

I can''t add anything to all the wise advice you''ve already received, but I particularly agree with Amber Gretchen''s thoughtful words. Lol about your Mom. I can totally relate. When my ex-H and I decided to purchase a vacation place at the beach, her first words were "Why would you want to do THAT?" It kind of burst my bubble at the time, but hey, she''s my Mommy and I love her.

Good luck with everything and my very best wishes for a great new beginning.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!! That is so exciting! Congrats on a more stable job with more money and no demon boss! Woohooo!!!!

Gypsy, congratulations! I''m so happy to see that you''re going for it! And a nice salary increase, to boot! Do you know how they deal with annual reviews/raises?

I won''t leave my company for less than 20%, and when I''ve been offered over that, I''ve tried to resign and they always match it! Resigning is the hardest part of getting a new job, for me, so I think you''re better off waiting until tomorrow to drop the letter.

I certainly hope you''ll be happy with the new company! I think you deserve a pressie, dear!

Ooooh. Kay. So I didn''t tell Demon Boss yet. I wanted to tell my VP, informally, first. He''s been very supportive of me, and I owe him some loyalty. He was PISSED.
"If you leave, you aren''t coming back."

Okay.

So, by the time I had done that, DB had left for the day so I''m giving notice tomorrow. Morning.

YAY. *snort*

Congratulations Gypsy on the job offer! I personally would go for the new position. You don''t sound happy in your current position at all and it seems to be getting worse by the week so I think that a new job and new office, colleagues etc, will help.

Thank you ahappy, Stephanie, Freke (I don't think so honey), and Gwen and bee*.

Thank you Dogmom, Amber was right on the money. As always. Thank you for the best wishes. I personally would have asked you, regarding the beach house: "Great, when I do go?!?"
27.gif

Thank you Lauren, I appreciate the help. We are having layoffs and freezes (and I spoke to my VP) so I don't think there are any counter offers in my future, truth to tell. I could tell our GC, who knew I was looking and asked me to give him right of first refusal... but I'm not gonna do that either. I want out.

Dear DEMON BOSS,
Please accept this letter as notification that I am leaving my position with COMPANY on June 12, 2008. I will be relocating to Marin Country, and have accepted position there which gives me the chance to grow further professionally.

This was not an easy decision to make, on my part. I've enjoyed contributing to our very successful contracts team here at COMPANY and I have appreciated the opportunities that have been provided to me during my tenure.

I wish you and COMPANY all the best.

Sincerely,

HAPPY IF I NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN

Why was the VP pissed at you?! There''s another reason to leave...VP should be happy for you, in my opinion, especially since he/she knows how Demon Boss is. Anyways, I''m glad you went for it...and I can''t wait to hear DB''s reaction!

Its the culture of the company. Our industry is small in terms of the number of employers and yet CEO declared last year that they would no longer be allowing anyone who leaves the company voluntarily to re-hire back, without his express authorization. They view you as disloyal. Whatever. We have two people leave recently that I knew and we brought in cake for them... and our EVP just sent everyone a SCATHING set down that we aren''t allowed to celebrate anyone leaving anymore. We weren''t celebrating their leaving first of all. One of the guys had been with the company for 10 years, he was moving on. I think 10 years deserves a little recognition. Especially as he ROCKED at his job. But whatever, its over.

Should I tell people where I am going, what company? At work when they ask? Or should I not? One of my friends said I absolutely should, for networking, another said, no, your boss is crazy and who knows what she''d do. I''m in the my boss is crazy camp, personally.

Ditto to Thing2--What is up with him being pissed at you? You got offered a job that pays more than your current one, and you aren't going to be treated like poo by Demon Boss anymore.

Just another reason to leave I think.

ETA: No don't tell them, unless you have an actual friendly relationship with someone in the company. Demon Boss is scary.

This is great news Gypsy! I am so excited for you that you took the job!! A fresh start WITHOUT DB!

Very, very bad culture. Glad you are getting out of there.

When people leave at our company, we wish them well in their future career. Good Grief, what an awful place you are in. Don''t tell anyone where you are going, especially if they aren''t being nice to you.

I definitely wouldn''t tell them where you''re going, either. What a terrible workplace. Glad you''re out of there!

Don''t tell them where you are going. If you want to contact someone there down the road, you know where to find them....
2.gif

But don''t see that happening.

Yeeeesssssss!!! So excited that you passed the background check and made a definative decision.

The fact that your current V.P. reacted as you described proves that you are leaving a militant environment where control is key. Honestly, I don''t know how you put up with as long as you did.

I would counsel against telling them the name of the new employer. I don''t trust people who don''t inspire loyalty but instead, demand loyalty. WTH???

You could get DB a card that I saw once that had a cute saying on the outside of the card:

There is an old ancient Indian custom where two people who have been separated get together for a reunion and float around on rafts as they talk about old times.

When you open it up it says:

Let''s not do that.

Then for good measure you can write:

May our paths never cross.

Okay, I may not be a good role model of decorum, but it''s fun to fantasize.

Congratulations Gypsy! So glad you get to leave your crummy current job!

Hi Gypsy,
I''m late to the party, but was so intrigued by your thread, I couldn''t stop reading to see how things turned out! Congratulations on being able to say, "Smell ya later!" to your soon to be ex DemonBoss.

Two things from my experience:
1. A rockin'' boss totally overrides a beotchy co-worker and will eventually find a way to get rid of a beotchy employee who''s stinking up the place with a toxic attitude.

2. I recall an interview where someone on the panel was really cold and nasty and I thought she was scowling at me the whole time. But she ended up being the most wonderful, sweetest people ever, and she even went on to refer me to other side contracts along the way. As it turned out, she just had a super crappy day on the day of my interview, so she was cold and cranky - but it didn''t reflect how she was from then on out. So have hope - she could turn that boat around, or you could win her over!

Seriously though - I couldn''t be more thrilled that you are taking the job. And Marin is so lovely - I''m sure you''ll love it up there, its where I lived from the time I was 10 years old until I went away to college. Plus you''ll be closer to the city, so we can get into all kinds of trouble
27.gif

Oh Gypsy I''m sooo happy for you! I just discovered Hangout... well since you pointed me over here!

Anyway, I was just reading all this start to finish and thinking "oh I hope she takes it..." And you did Yay!!!!

I think you might want to keep the new company name under wraps for a little while until you get settled at the new place.

Sorry about the VP being pissed... sounds like a bit of sour grapes.... Oh and yikes... no celebrations for people leaving? What kind of work environment is that? Be glad you''ll be out of it!

BTW, I''ll see you at the GTG!

BOMBS away.

Demon Boss was fake nice. Congratulated me. Told me about her plumbing concerns then went on and on about what changes were going to need to be made with me gone -- poor her.

I was finally able to tell some of my coworkers, and I now have three lunch appointments for people taking me out before I go. That was really nice. They are all excited for me. We aren''t ''celebrating'' we''re just doing lunch.
27.gif

So I''ve had a goofy grin in my face. And I''m just so la, la, la.... I''ve got one foot out the door!

I don''t know Freke... I think as someone said, the demand loyaty instead of inspiring it. Doesn''t work.

Not telling anywhere where I am going, just that my new position is outside of current market and in Marin.

Thank you Sarah!

Flygirl, I won''t tell anyone where I''m going. I''ll get their personal email information, and if I want to tell them later on... I can.

Kaleigh, exactly! I agree!

Hi Miracles. I love the thought of that card. I really REALLY do. Ahh, decorum. It''s overrated right? It is a bad environment and I am glad I''m leaving.

Thank you snlee!

Thank you for the perspective pixley. I''m praying that my experience is similar to yours.

AG-- yup. Definitely closer... and we could certainly find some trouble.

HI Mia, I took it. And gave notice here this morning. I''m just so glad its almost over. YAY. I am keeping the company name under wraps for a while. I am glad I''m out of it! YAY!

Uhh, "plumbing" like in her house or "plumbing" like in her abdomen.

Either way, sheesh.

Yea you! You dropped the bomb, Oppenheimer!

Her house.
20.gif
It was surreal. But, then... its all about her problems, and her. So, maybe not that surreal.

Yup, bomb is away. And I am happy. Really happy. Completely unmotivated to do any more work too, except for three of the contracts I am working on for my favorite supply chain managers.

Still have to tell General Counsel. He''ll hear about it anyway, but I would like to tell him myself as well.
