I''ve seen it posted a few times in here but I was just wondering, what is engagement chicken? What''s the whole story behind this?

I don''t have the recepie....... but apparently of you make the engagement cihicken it moves you a long a bit quicker.

It''s basically a big roasted chicken with lemon, I think. If you Google there are recipes. Legend has it that you''ll receive a proposal shortly after making it.

I haven''t tried it, but SO''s not really into chicken. For us, a more appropriate option would be Engagement Pot Roast or Engagement Lasagna.

I need an engagement chicken alternative because Im a vegetarian and I don't like touching raw chicken that much lol!

advice - get your own cooking times for cooking the chicken. aparently my oven does not get to the right temp (i think its off by about 10 degrees

) so my chicken took about an hour longer to cook. On the bright side, my boyf felt bad for me ( i was upset becuase i made a whole chicken just for him, and i do not like whole chickens) and ate the whole thing :)

jcarlylew - I had that problem too. It took about 15 minutes longer to cook. I wanted it to look golden brown like a picture I saw online and it did after I left it in the oven a little longer. I also put some olive oil and sea salt on top. It was very yummy! It has been almost a month, so we'll see!

There''s also a recipe for manloaf that is supposed to be spellbinding to most men.

I''ll stick to my cupcakes with homemade maple frosting...those seem to make my guy extra super happy!

That is so funny that this is a topic for discussion today.

I just made my own version of "engagement chicken" for supper last night. I use an Emeril Lagasse recipe for a Rosemary Garlic Chicken with Roasted Vegetables. I haven't made it in years. (Last time I made it was for my ex who I did get engaged to...)

Long story short, my SO didn't like it too much. I'm not holding out any hope for it. He told me is was in my "B category" of suppers I've made. He tried to say he's more of a red meat eater. He told me to make "engagement steak" next time....

Basically when you pull a roasting pan out of the oven with a beautiful golden chicken all juicy and smelling wonderful, you're supposed to look like Betty Crocker. There's nothing superstitious about it. It's basically to show that you know your way around a kitchen.

The original recipe for "engagement chicken" was featured in a Cosmo or Glamour magazine about 5+ years ago. I remember reading it.

PS. If you want to try a recipe that is a little more savory than lemony, let me know. I'll get you the recipe I use. Hey, I'm 1 for 2 with it so far....
