Well...bad news turned out to be just about as bad as it could get.

FI's manager has been getting pushed by HR to put him on a "performance plan" -- basically 6 months warning before being fired. He hasn't been put on one yet because his manager (and up a couple of levels) sees his project as extremely important (which it really is but he's doing stuff that is in a different (higher) official job title than he is currently assigned so his evaluation doesn't take it into consideration) BUT they can't hold off HR much longer so he has to get his project done ASAP and hope that someone (HR? management?) allow him to transfer to another group in the company.

If not...... I don't know. There are limited positions available for his level of experience and we live in one of the best areas for him to get another position so it isn't even a matter of moving to a better place.

Right now we're just focusing on him getting his project done and strengthening existing relationships with people in other groups who may be interested in his skills.

Him being out of work is NOT an option because my salary doesn't even cover 1/2 the mortgage (let alone other monthly bills on top!)

oh no! So sorry- so he has 6 months left? or is he out as soon as he finishes the project? is there another area he could work in? :((

I am watching a re-broadcast of the Concert for 9/11 and just have to say: I AM SO FREAKIN' HAPPY USAMA BIN LADEN IS JUGGLING PLATES IN HELL.

That's all.

Back to work tomorrow. Ugh.

VENT -- my hair stylist, who has admired my jewelry for a long time and has heard me talk about the difference between frozen spit and good diamonds, asked me to look at a diamond ring at Zales  that she picked out with her future fiance. I looked at it. Frozen spit is more attractive. $11,000. I found a diamond and a band at my favored on-line vendor and told her they could save $4000 and get a much much MUCH nicer diamond and wedding ring. She emailed me tonight that she's engaged, which probably means he bought the Zales ring.

Who wouldn't want to save $4000 and get a better ring? Come on people....$4000 to put toward the wedding, honeymoon, a house, Geezzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I am in need of a vodka tonic.

Oh dear - good luck faking a look of "it's beautiful" when you finally see it

I'm sorry to hear about that Too Patient! DH lost his job a few years ago and I remember the feeling that I had in my stomach the whole time. It was awful.

They've started showing S*x and the city during the day over here-I thought it was a bit risky to be showing at this time of day but I've just realised that they take out all of the curse words as well as any sexual activity. What is the point of showing it-it's a very quick show with all that cut out! :cheeky:

No kidding. I guess people do that because they just want a finished, completed ring.

I hate hearing about people being laid off. Even now, it seemed like the economy was picking back up. Why don't the big business CEOs get that people aren't going to buy their product if they're not employed to pay for it? If they have no income they won't shop. So laying people off or not hiring people back/on isn't going to give anyone an income. Spend money to make money is the general saying, whether it's good practice or not...

Before DH got his current job, he was on the edge of his seat for 6 years about whether or not he'd be laid off, his company laid hundreds off a month, after acquiring another competitor. He was able to take this position and get out of that situation, though we're always still nervous since it's an industry that has a lot of transition, and computerization of the work.

Yea, that's silly. There's a lot of movies and shows that I don't get being on in syndication during the day since half the show is edited out and you miss the entire point.

Maybe she asked your advice without realizing her FI had already purchased it? Good luck trying to fake a smile.

As I've learned to say here in Africa.... SHAME!!!!!!

But on a side note, vodka tonics are my favorite.

Missy -- Thanks for the kind words.

TyTy -- His manager is doing what he can but he got bad marks on his evaluation for sticking up for FI already so there may not be much he can do. I'm doing lots of looking at all of our bills and the few things we have on credit to see what I can do to reduce our monthly expenses. There are several things that we can just pay off and that will help. After all that, then saving whatever we can has become a big priority.

ChemGirl ---  Yuck! I hope he was only nervous and his rational side smacked some sense back into him.

Amy's -- Officially they have to go through a 6 month process to fire him. That process hasn't been started, but once it does it is apparently unpleasant enough that most people just quit. Lay-offs are an entirely different thing and don't have to come with any warning though...
There are LOTS of other groups within the company that may be able to use his skills but there are also a couple of other companies in the area to talk with also. One of the issues is that he is SO experienced that many places hesitate to hire him because they'd rather pay someone just out of college 1/2 as much. The other problem he ran into last time he was interviewing was that he is older than the typical new hire. Officially they can't not hire you based on age, but people made it very clear to him last time that this was a big part of their decisions.

Bee --- Good description. I hope your DH found a great job.

If they've taken out the sex and cursing, the show would be about 6 minutes long, right?

I went to the Gator game this weekend, and some jacka** decided to do a low fly by in a private jet liner. It was not a funny joke. :nono:

We won though, and I got to go for free, and I got a cool cup, and I was also given a John Deere hat earlier that day, so I took it as a really good Saturday.

I'm wearing only my 2 mm platinum plain band today. While I sometimes miss looking at my hand and seeing something sparkle, I love the simplicity of just the band. Totally reminds me of why the ring is there in the first place.

I just wanna say I think PS is overly censored.
I took the time to post in a thread the other day and a few hours later it was gone because the mods didn't like what the person I quoted had to say. Fine, delete that part but why delete my whole long post that I put time and effort into? Not cool. ::)

It feels (sometimes) like invasion of Stepford people in here or at least it feels that's what the admin would prefer.
In any case please notify us if you are deleting our post. Common courtesy you know? And preserve as much as the post as you can.
I am a mod on a forum that deals with a specific disease and we try to do everything we can to *not* censor and if we have to we leave as much intact as possible and always notify anyone who is involved. It's the right thing to do.

That's all I wanted to say. Thanks for listening. :wavey:

I love doing that as well. I absolutely love my ering but I also love the look of my plain wedding band by itself.

Dammit. Just got off work and have some time, and I find the RT thread did a disappearing act ;( Are we talking about the same one, missy?

I wish I'd been able to read the rest of it before it got deleted - I missed everything after a couple of days ago. One that yes, crops up again and again, but seems to inspire strong feelings every time nonetheless. I'll submit that that's a good thing - apathy would be worse, I think!

I didn't post in that one as I don't really know the back story so didn't need to add to any drama but it was another thread where a few posts just disappeared because it was the easiest thing to do. Just seems like a theme around here. As Holly said, sweeping things under the rug doesn't mean it still doesn't stink (or something like that). And I agree, apathy is worse.

We unfortunately missed out on Tail Gating ;( . But it was a lot of fun. I can never get over how awesome it is to listen to the orange blue chant from side to side.

The RT thread was about the importance, or lack thereof, of cut.

I know, I was reading a thread today when it totally vanished.... I was several pages into it , then gone- I thought something was wrong with my computer, and then realized what happened...

I just booked my weekend in Montreal! Woohooooo! I love Montreal and I'm so excited!

DH used to live there for years so he's looking at me like I'm crazy while I do the happy dance.

ETA: Ever notice how most hotel reviews are just ridiculous? I looked at recent reviews for my hotel since I haven't been there in about 6 months and there are so many inane complaints. Its a 4*, big name brand hotel. It was completely remodeled less than a year ago. How can it possibly be dated? The chain never offers free internet so it shouldn't be a surprise. Complimentary coffee is a nice touch and the hotel doesn't have to provide the client's brand of choice! I wish reviewers would rate their overall stay rather than nitpick.

Gotcha.

Ugh. My puppy ripped the top layer of skin off his little paw pad and now he is limping around the house-- not to mention his allergies are so bad that he nibbles his legs and scratches his ears all day and night leaving him with bald patches :(

Poor puppy!

What is he allergic to?

We moved to a new neighborhood. Totally trying to avoid being to close to any neighbors but ended up talking to one for about an hour. I discovered another neighbor (an owner) has had FOUR different men live with her in the last five years. Just grosses me out. Sorry, but who the hell are these guys? Why do they come and then go? When we moved in, we had to fill out an application, etc., yet she can bring in men who clearly aren't checked up on by any realtor, etc.? :knockout:

I would take him to the vet for the allergies if I were you. My cat does that occasionally and a steroid shot always helps immediately.
