I went to an appraiser yesterday, in order to have a .54 ct diamond appraised and he had there a round brilliant diamond which was a little smaller than 30 cts...I just couldn't believe my eyes...I had never seen such a huge diamond in my life...The stone's clarity was I1 and i could see many obvious inclusions, but still, it was quite impressive...I'll go dream about it now...
NL - the first few times I read that, I read ".30 cts"... I guess my mind just couldn't process 30 carats! WOW!!!

lol, that's what I thought, too. I couldn't imagine what a 30 ct diamond would look like. I guess Swarovski crystal, as someone mentioned, would be a good comparison.

Oy! :angryfire:   Got back a few hours ago from an early Sunday dinner at the in-laws to celebrate FIL's b-day. They adore our second cat, who's a kitten right now and is just the biggest cuddlebug, so I brought her over. Hubby's SIL... :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: Upon meeting the kitten, says, "Oh, [insert compliment said with disingenuous tone like it's her obligation to say it...e.g., what a nice cat]...I like her a lot better than cat #1." If that's not bad enough, THEN she follows that with something along the lines of the following... when she said it, I just saw red, and bit my tongue b/c I was flabbergasted...something like "I don't really care for cat #1" and makes this "eh..." lemon face.

OK - kinda tactless, sure, but what REALLY was the straw that broke the camel's back... when she last saw cat #1, she complimented on how nice the cat was, how much friendlier than our FIL and MIL's cat, how beautiful her markings are. Sure, be whatever with me, but don't be throwing backhanded and/or disingenuous compliments at my furbabies!!! At least, if and when I have a human child, they'll eventually become mouthy teens and can talk back, but NOT MY FURBABIES!

Yes, I understand that maybe she's one of those people that probably thinks that for people to like her, she must drop some BS compliment when she first greets them, but when it comes off so disingenuous, why bother?

Thank you for letting me vent to the anonymous... Now I'm going to work on being an :saint: .

Vent away, pinto bean! Some people are just ....impossible!...and yet we have to interact with them

Your a good momma to your fur babies - you were there to defend them :))

honestly, Enerchi, if it was MY side of the family, or anyone that was NOT an in-law, I would have gone off!!! claws out, fur flying... ;-)

Ahhh... who knew you had to be the MOST diplomatic when it came to the extended "family". ;-)

On my wedding day, she asked to see my wedding band (5 stone bah-bling from IDJ) not once, twice, but 3x. It was like out of sight, out of mind. The first being pre-ceremony while it was in the box, the 2nd being post ceremony on finger. Don't know why, but those two times she just said, with no emotion and not really paying attention, "very nice" and moved on. 3rd time, probably a few drinks into the reception, we passed each other entering, exiting the dance floor - the diamonds must have caught a candle or other light b/c her head whipped around, she asked to see my ring, and her jaw dropped. Whenever she makes me :angryfire: , I think about my ring making her jaw drop - and that GENUINE emotional reaction she had, being caught off-guard... MOohahahaha

Back to working on being a :saint: ;-)

Maybe this whole saint thing is over rated!! ;)) ;))

She sounds like a real treat... I'd be doing my best to just avoid her. Just put Kenny's voice in your head when you have contact -"people vary!!"

Oh, Kenny would be a bazillionaire to the nth power if he got a nickel for each time I've thought or said "people vary", especially at work... :naughty:

Did the fall cleanup of the veggie patch today and picked the last of my tomatoes ;(

My throat is getting sore. Ugh.

I really, really do not want or need that cold that's going around!

VR -- hope you're feeling better! I just missed 2 weeks of class (and midterms :nono: ) due to that stuff that's going around.

Matata -- Yum! Sorry they are the last of the season, but they look wonderful.

My throat has been getting sore over the last couple of days too. Worse thing is, I feel bad, but not QUITE bad enough to justify missing work. Urg.

I stopped in to visit one of my crusty old bachelor guy friends yesterday. He, formerly Dog's Best Friend (as in "I hate cats"), has a housecat now. It's a former barn cat that he rescued and brought home when it got injured. He's obviously enthralled with this cat, and the cat with him. They make googoo eyes at each other.

The cat steals tomatoes. He knocks them off the windowsill onto the floor, where they smash open. And then he eats them. He also eats vanilla ice cream, but only off a spoon if my friend hand-feeds him. Put that ice cream in a dish, and it's no-go.

Tell him to be careful of tomato plants with cats. They are poison to cats, even a little leaf chewing.

FROM ASPCA WEBSITE;
Tomatoes
I give my cats dry cat food, and was surprised to learn that the brand I feed contains tomatoes. Aren’t tomatoes poisonous to pets?
- Tricia K.
In this case the answer is no, Tricia. The green parts of the tomato plant are considered toxic because they contain solanine, which has the potential to produce significant gastrointestinal and central nervous system effects. However ripe tomatoes, the part of the plant typically used in food products, are not toxic. Therefore, we would not expect any poisoning-related issues with the tomato content of your cat food.

Glad he likes the kitty, though! Cats all have different personalities, so it's great he found one that he gets along with! :appl:

Lucky guy! Lucky cat!

I'm so proud of my mom. She saved a dog from death row tonight. She's going to foster him, and without her he would be dead right now.

Oh my goodness! That is so awesome!!!!

I love summer - even in with Central Valley heat - but I'm so glad the cold weather is finally here! I'm really ready for my favorite winter soups and stews! :lickout:

:appl: Has she fostered other dogs? I hope this one is a great experience for her and the dog!

This will be her first foster! We are big Pit Bull advocates, and she's been wanting to adopt a Pittie for a while. We saw a super urgent sweetheart who needed immediate foster or he would be PTS tonight, and she acted on it. I spent several hours on the phone desperately trying to find a rescue to pull him while she was at work, and we weren't sure he made it for a while, but he did! I'm pretty sure she'll end up being a foster failure, and she'll end up adopting him very soon. ::) She just doesn't want to commit to adoption before having a meet and greet with her current dog.

Me too! This is freaking awesome! Love it. :appl: ETA: I meant to quote the story of the tomato-eating cat and the googley eyes between this cat and former "I hate cats" man

Haven's story too. It's a great day for fur babies all around! Warms my heart.

Love it! Kitties are so awesome.

We are having a new roof put on and while putting on the roof the workers broke our ceiling (an accident), I was hoping they would be done yesterday because the babies don't like all the loud noises (they went to daycare to help with that). Anyway, daycare is closed on Tues and Thurs so someone else has to watch them and shuffling them around is tough on them. sigh, no point in my post but just needed to get this frustration off my chest and I am hoping the repair work and clean up go quick today.

That stinks, Skippy. Sorry it's taking longer than you thought it would.

And, hello, this is the random comments thread! This is the PERFECT place to post things that have no point. My husband calls many things I tell him "'Zoe' stories because they often don't have a point. Well, to him. They make perfect sense to me.

Guess that ole barncat had to eat what he could! Tomato's HA! Makes his own sauce by throwing them on the floor....

I have a lovely lovely friend and I visit her at her place and we gossip :saint: over coffee. Really awful coffee. I drink it anyway.

cheers--Sharon

If anyone has been following the Conrad Black fiasco - stole from his shareholders among other things, I'm ashamed to admit that he's in Canada on a visitor's visa after serving time in a Florida jail. He had earlier revoked his Canadian citizenship to become a member of The House of Lords in Britain. His current title (I hope they revoke it) is Lord of Crossharbour. Some lord!!

Yesterday, he once again showed his true colours by insulting a BBC interviewer who was just doing his job.

This man has never had 'class' ( He stole exam papers from Upper Canada College as a teen) and will never have class or respect from most Canadians. He can call himself anything he wants, but he's still trash. :((

Sorry, just had to vent

Pompous trash- I completely agree, Isaku! I followed that fiasco as well. What a snake! I can't believe he's allowed in... but I know nothing about politics/policies/immigration or the legal system, so there ya go!

And dear Barbara... ya... RIIIIIIiiiiiight!!! :nono:

I am currently downloading Quickbooks onto my laptop for the FIFTH FRICKIN TIME because either that or the student files for the class are making my computer verrrrry angry. If it doesnt work this time I'm seriously considering dropping the class.

On a happy note, I think i will be picling up my car on Saturday.

that happened to me when I took the class; darn, i wish I remember what I needed to do to get it working! weird that I remember that happening. can you take your laptop to class or during office hours and have them help you download it? I think that is what I did. It is kind of a fun class, I actually like Peachtree better since it is more geared for accountants and Quickbooks is geared to everyone (very user friendly, except the download). I had a lot of clients use Quickbooks and so it is nice to understand it too. congrats on the car!
