So much for that idea!

"A" has been in Disneyland for almost 4 days now. She's been in very few of the group pictures posted and is scowling in the couple she has been in. Didn't bother to ski on the day trip and hasn't bought anything but a JambaJuice.

They are heading to the airport in a little over an hour so she's about out of time.

She has gone places with this group before and claimed to enjoy herself. I've only ever seen her projecting hate and boredom in all the event pics but we tried to give hher the benefit of just bad pics. Now I really think she doesn't enjoy these activities...

So frustrated ;(

Apart from anything else, "A" is at that difficult age - and while she may not be having as much obvious fun as you'd like, even if her only rationale for going on these trips is that she prefers it over staying home, is that such a bad thing? It is okay to just have an okay time - not every situation will turn out to be SO MUCH FUN! She is getting out and about, having to engage with people along the way, has new experiences... and being willing to go is huge positive in my mind (as is not spending a boat-load of money on souvenirs that are meaningless).

And avoiding pics/taking bad photos in group shots - well, there are a lot of us out there - if you looked at all the group shots I've ever been in, you'd think I'd had very little fun and happiness in my life - when the real truth is, as a general rule, I look bad in group shots and try to avoid them.

Thanks!

I was very much the quiet teenager and still hate cameras and big group stuff. "A" is very much a camera person who seems to love group activities. That is why I was so worried seeing her looking so unhappy in the pictures.

Turns out it was nothing

The one picture posted was just after the flight (so up at 4am, through one airport, 2+ hour flight, through another airport...) and the other turned out to be about 6:30am after a night out late :))

She had a GREAT time. The rides were "lame" but there were a couple she enjoyed. She and a group of girls mostly just browsed through the gift shops at Disneyland. Skiing got called off due to lack of snow so they did a fun center thing instead that was "super cheesy but cool" They also got to do a couple of great hikes she really enjoyed too.

Important lesson she learned: Don't leave your purse in the hotel because you never know when you'll want your debit card! Turns out they had gone to "downtown Disneyland" the first day and there wasn't anything but a few places to eat and some "dumb regular stores".... Yeah.... downtown Anaheim (assume this is where they went?) is not Disneyland so those were just regular stores and all the souvenir places she'd been browsing online were actually IN Disneyland...

Eh.
She had fun. That was what we wanted for her!
(I might see about surprising her with the Disney earrings she'd wanted when we take her to get her ears pierced :)) )

TP- so glad "A" had a good time!!!!

MIssy- oh honey i'm so sorry you are not feeling well. Sending you dust!

As for me we are stuck waiting to find out if our housing application for a house in Germany we love is available. It seemed it would go through and then the landlord pulled the plug on it because we have a "big" dog...she is a 60lb lab who has a sweet disposition and bad hips. She is far from a trouble maker. We told the landlord we would put down extra deposit and get pet insurance (something in europe I was told for renters who have pets that might cause damage)....so now it has been 2 whole days. I have left messages, the housing agency we are going through has left messages. I'm so disappointed as we looked at roughly a dozen places and this is the only one i liked, but at the same time the lack of business manners this person has shown is shocking ( a few others things I won't bother to mention as the dog thing is the biggest). Anyhow send me dust as we really want this house and we only have 2 weeks to find one!

Oh Sarah, I am sending you lots of dust for a happy outcome. And thanks for the well wishes and dust for me. My doctor doesn't know what is going on with me and wants to wait and watch and if my overall body burning doesn't improve send me to a rheumatologist. I am remaining upbeat though as that is my best option for now.

Missy -- Have they checked you for vitamin deficiencies? Some illnesses can cause your body to become short on a vitamin either temporarily or permanently. Some vitamins can cause huge amounts of pain and nerve problems when short!
May be worth a try! (simple blood test lets them check for this and you'd be shocked how many doctors don't think of doing this :nono: )

Hope you're feeling lots better soon!

Wow, thanks TooPatient. My doctor didn't do any blood tests yesterday. He just wanted to take a wait and see approach. So I am seeing my dermatologist next Tuesday and if I am still experiencing this burning I am going to ask him to do these blood tests. I really appreciate the info-thank you.

I've been reading lots on vitamin deficiencies since DH is dealing with a B12 deficiency. It was interesting how many doctors, nurses, and even pharmacists insisted that B12 deficiency is "almost non-existent" in the US.... Yeah... :nono:

Anyway, I just wanted to pass that on as a possibility since none of DH's specialists even suggested such a thing as possible. I've seen a lot in my reading that suggests (to me anyway) that there are LOTS of deficiencies out there that either cause "autoimmune" or "chronic" issues or are caused by them.

TooPatient, I can't quote on my phone for some reason so new post.

Crazy what you were told about the b12! I have low B12, a close girlfriend is deficient, and my grandmother didn't absorb it at all and needed injections. I was always under the impression that b12 deficiency was fairly common, especially among those with digestive issues and those on acid reflux meds.

Wasn't there a thread not that long ago about b12 deficiency?

Frustrating when doctors dismiss concerns.

Based on what I have been reading, it is pretty common. I also found a handful of people around here that we know who have B12 issues. I was shocked that so many medical people argued that it NEVER happens so couldn't be. We ended up starting him on supplements even before they did any tests and they still were resistant to the idea after he had improved! The bloodwork confirmed...

There was a thread here in Hangout about B12 deficiency. That is actually where I first heard about it! The descriptions given absolutely matched his symptoms. If it hadn't been for that thread, I don't know where we would be now. All of the other specialists had given up and were sending him to a rheumatologist to just treat symptoms as autoimmune.

Such a simple thing to check for and so many just ignore it :nono:

I just got a red jewel jet and I'm about to go scour the neighborhood for dirty jewelry. It does such an amazing job! I think it's a public service to bring it to school Monday and clean all the teachers rings!!!

Where did you buy it Sparklelu? I am thinking of getting one but not sure of the best place to buy it from.

Thanks for the info. I have a new symptom and saw the gastroenterologist today. I am just feeling so down right now and have an endoscopy scheduled for Monday. The doctors just seem confused about my symptoms and I waited for 2 hours in the waiting room today and totally forgot to ask about the vitamin deficiency but won't forget when I see my dermatologist Tuesday. He's a very smart guy so hopefully he can help figure out what is causing my overall body burning. Just so scary cause the GI doc mentioned something that while rare could be possible and that really scared me. Trying to think good thoughts and staying positive. But it's hard when you're scared.

Not Sparklelu but I bought mine on ebay! They usually come up there fairly often (and might be the only place you can buy them now since they are technically the "older" model?).

Missy -- I know it is hard when specialists start talking about rare but horrible possibilities. DH had gotten to the point of hardly able to move -- unable to stand on his own or use the bathroom without help or manage to hold a glass at times. It was SOOOoo scary going from one specialist to the next and each one tossing out "rare but could be..." sorts of things!

Big hugs as you go through this! I hope it all turns out to be simple and something that you can fully recover from quickly :))

Missy,
I did get it on Ebay. Brand new in box 49.99 plus shipping. I looked at the seller just now, he does not have another;(
I hope you get answers to your medical issues and feel better fast!!

Thanks again TooPatient. I am glad your dh is doing well despite the doctors lol. You both must be so relieved!

Thanks Sparklelu and pandabee. I have to decide which to get-the older or the newer model. I know ame recommended the Jewel Jet but I cannot remember which one it was.

I got the red one :) it works very well

I'm kicking myself today. I went out of town yesterday, and found THE PERFECT bracelet. And, I have a big birthday coming up next week. It's exactly what I was looking for, only it was 10k instead of 14k. It was relatively inexpensive, $300 before tax. I couldn't pull the trigger. I don't know why. I asked them to hold it, and walked around to think about it, and in the end, couldn't do it. Now that I'm home, I'm mad at myself for not.

It's a mall store, not sure they'd do that. At least, I don't think it's something they'd do, it never happened in the time I worked with the company.

so we signed today for the house we wanted!!!! Get to move in - in 3 weeks! :appl:

JG -- So cool!! That must have been amazing!

Manderz -- Call and ask! Let them know it is your b-day. It never hurts to ask and they might say yes :))

SB -- Awesome news! So excited for you.

Congrats SB!

I have a really hard, really important exam this week.

If anyone has any spare dust/prayers/voodoo, please send it my way. I'm really worried if haven't done enough, the pass rate is only 40%

Thanks guys!

Huge heaps of dust and good thoughts for your exam! I'm sure you'll do amazing.

The dentist really wants us to get braces on "A" because this is the age her friends will have them. He's also convinced that the way one of her teeth is sitting will cause it to wear down and she'll "someday" end up having to get a crown.

I just can't imagine braces being a good idea for her right now. I think avoiding a crown she may end up having to get some years from now is great but isn't worth having her get braces before she is even able to keep her teeth clean regularly.

A hygienist friend told me that if she isn't brushing at least most of the time we'd actually be causing her problems as she'd get all sorts of gunk in her braces and lots of cavities etc.

She goes the entire weekend without brushing at all if I don't remind her (tried not reminding her a few times :knockout: ) and at least 2-3 times per week goes straight to bed without brushing. She'll even try to skip it in the morning before school "Oh! I just don't have time!" When she does brush her teeth, it is almost always well under a minute.
Flossing is a once every couple of months sort of thing...

Anyway, I'd love to see her done with braces about the same time all her friends are. It just feels to me (and to DH) like it would be irresponsible of us to move forward with them if she's not ready.

(Oh -- and this lack of tooth cleaning is even with me regularly reminding her and even having the dentist show her nasty film of gingivitis and stuff :errrr: )

Sorry. Had to get that out somewhere!
I'm sick of people approaching kids as a one-size-fits all sort of thing. There are similarities but each kid is still an individual and needs to be evaluated as an individual!

Grad school is hard and I'm really tired. Looking forward to being done in eight short (but long) weeks, and planning a blingy graduation gift for myself.

I didn't try any funny business with him - he had massive claws and I don't think being rebuffed would have been a pretty scene.

Such great news, SB - what a relief to have everything sorted. :))

Good luck, Rosetta - you're a clever cookie; I reckon you'll do great!

TP, trust your own instincts. Like you said, children vary. :wink2:

this is my basal cell carcinoma, back after only 7 months. The Dr. called yesterday to tell me the biopsy report and I am going in early in the morning to have it cut out. Hope they get all of it this time.
