*dust* for a successful removal, Vapid!

Good luck Rosetta! I know you will ace it!

Sending successful procedure dust your way Vapid!

That's great news Sarah, congrats!

That sounds wise Ginger...what an amazing experience. :appl:

Vapid -- I hope they get it all and you don't have to deal with it coming back again!

Good luck, VL! :wavey: Lots of dust and prayers for you.

Thinking of you VL!

Vl did you try mohs surgery? MY hubby had it on his nose so far so good it's been 2 years. Dust coming your way

VL you seriously could be my DH, your coloring is IDENTICAL. In fact I did a double-take!

Good luck to you!

I wish I could talk at all beyond vagueries with this "secret plan". I am DYING to talk about it.

Thank you all for the dust and good thoughts. It really helped me today in maintaining my Candide attitude.

I went in there thinking it was 4.5 mm, about the size of a side stone. They did the Mohs surgery thing. Took 6 hours. They ended up taking a section 15 x 20mm, which I thought makes for a huge and dramatic black opal that is still too big for a finger! They had to stretch the skin so much to close it it was like a facelift. The scar is 35mm long. I took pictures. I wont post them, unless you actually want me to. I was so glad to get home. So was murry. Now in the morning SO has a bone scan because of this study she is in.
All we can do is keep moving forward. On another note, I did bring a book with me, and I am loving it, The Hare With Amber Eyes. Has anyone read it? It is totally wonderful.

VL, I saw your post this morning on my phone but haven't been to a proper computer to reply until now. I was thinking about you today though and I hope all is well after your procedure. Biggest hugs outgoing to your SO too.

I've been praying for you and sending you all of the dust I could gather up!!! I'm glad the procedure went well and am praying for a safe and smooth recovery for you. If you're okay posting pics, please feel free to if you're comfortable with the idea. Either way I'll continue to send you dust and ((((hugs))))!!!!

Thanks Roxy DeeJay Ame and everyone! My skin is very pale. Generations of Irish, English and northern European inbreeding have made me predisposed to this sort of thing. I realize this one is not a major life altering cancer, but think of this as a kind of PSA about not putting little things off. I really thought this was nothing, or so minor that some mosquito bite could potentially be more dramatic. Only yesterday the spot was no larger than an unheated ruby that I could afford. Today it could be a coin slot! The dot was 4.5 mm but the scar is 36mm! I'm not terribly uncomfortable, and I am really glad that I acted so directly after getting the news. Now the photos aren't really graphic. The excision was cauterized so it just looks like I was shot in the head with a 45.

Missy -- I know it is hard when specialists start talking about rare but horrible possibilities. DH had gotten to the point of hardly able to move -- unable to stand on his own or use the bathroom without help or manage to hold a glass at times. It was SOOOoo scary going from one specialist to the next and each one tossing out "rare but could be..." sorts of things!

Big hugs as you go through this! I hope it all turns out to be simple and something that you can fully recover from quickly :))

Thanks again TooPatient. I am glad your dh is doing well despite the doctors lol. You both must be so relieved!

Missy,
I did get it on Ebay. Brand new in box 49.99 plus shipping. I looked at the seller just now, he does not have another;(
I hope you get answers to your medical issues and feel better fast!!

Thanks Sparklelu and pandabee. I have to decide which to get-the older or the newer model. I know ame recommended the Jewel Jet but I cannot remember which one it was.

Hi Missy, I don't know the Jewel Jet that Ame uses but I'm using the Jewel Jet 2, which is black and silver. It works like a charm!

Athough it comes w/ "tweezers" to hold your jewelry in place, I was given a tip about using small mesh balls to hold my jewelry instead. I think the balls are usually made for seeping (or steeping?) tea, but they have long handles and are perfect for holding jewelry under the steamer. The handle on the tweezers that came w/ mine put my hand too close to the steam, so the mesh balls let me get a more concentrated steam cleaning.

ETA: "steeping"

I just got a red jewel jet and I'm about to go scour the neighborhood for dirty jewelry. It does such an amazing job! I think it's a public service to bring it to school Monday and clean all the teachers rings!!!

Just had to say that I laughed out loud when I saw this! It drives me crazy when I see a "dirty" diamond. We put so much effort into picking (and nitpicking) every litte detail to try and get the best performing diamond that we can afford. Then we'll go months (or years in my mother's case LOL) w/out cleaning it, which almost defeats the purpose.

VL thanks for sharing your personal journey with us, you're right about it acting as a PSA for those of us (namely ME) who put things off when it comes to health related stuff!

This may have already been mentioned, but I recently read about a former CNN anchor who had to have his arm amputated because he put off going to the doctor. He'd suffered an injury to his forearm, and although it was swelling and painful, he thought it'd just pass by. When he finally saw a doctor, he as taken in for emergency surgery on it, and while he was on the operating table the doctor had to make a last minute decision to amputate his arm above his elbow in order to save his life. He woke up to learn that his arm was gone. I can't imagine how traumatic that was for him, but it's another data point for getting early medical attention.

I was so, so, so happy to think that this year was the first year my stalky ex had given up. It's now been 11 years since we broke up.

Nope, just got a new e-mail address. And apparently started following me on Twitter.

FML.

Oh my goodness Circe have you gone to the police? Sorry but I get very jumpy about stuff like this. A family friend had a stalker (x boyfriend) who shot and killer her current boyfriend. All the warning sides were there but they kept brushing it off. Please please please don't shrug this off!!!!

As for me, some A$$hole broke into our house in the states (we now live overseas), and stole all of our kitchen appliances. Also in order to get the oversize fridge out they ripped our side door off the frame adn took half the wall with it. I'm soooo soooo soooo pissed about it. We have renters moving in this weekend and we are scrambling to replace everythign and have it fixed. I just feel so violated over the whole thing. :nono:

WOW. Ok that's WAY bigger than I expected. It might not be "major life altering cancer" but if left alone it could become that way. My grandma who passed last year let a Squamous cell fester for 20 years. It literally ate her whole torso. She didn't do anything about it, and thaknfully it didn't affect any other organs!

ETA: "steeping"

I don't allow metal near my ring, so I use the tweezers, and put a little paper towel in the little mesh basket under the nozzle. I also never use it without tons of "padding" beneath me, in the form of towels all over the floor, and every surface around me, just in case of drops, though thankfully none of those.

I have the original red Jewel Jet. Just make sure whichever you use you use DISTILLED WATER.

What in the...that is...wow. Ballsy.

Circe I really hope that you can get some legal help for this.

VL, so sorry this turned out to be more involved than you thought - take care of yourself and lots of healing dust headed your way.

Wow VL that's quite the excavation they did. Here's dust for a speedy recovery. DH had MOHs under his eye last fall that was not quite that big, but took quite a few stitches to close, it healed beautifully. Hope yours does too.

VL: Wow! That does look a bit like a gunshot. You inspired me to get my pasty English, Irish, German, Canadian butt to the mall to buy a hat.

Circe: We have a similar issue with DH's ex. We recently found out she is stalking our company twitter page. How do we know? Well we posted a picture of DH with our niece at a fundraiser and she decided to call the office and demand to know if he has a child. Gah crazy ex's. No real advice though. Our strategy has been to ignore her, but clearly that doesn't work.

Whoa, VL - what a pain for you to endure. Hopefully now they've well and truly taken care of the problem.

Circe, sorry about your crazy ex. I just don't understand how these people can't get wrapped up in their own real lives enough to stop being so stalky.

Chemgirl: that's a crazy story! I'd be most unimpressed to be the recipient of a call like that from an ex.

How in the world did Jimmy Kimmel get all those stars to do those youtube movies on his after the Oscars show???? Ridiculous, but pretty funny to see movies stars acting so silly - They were good sports, that's for sure!

That's what DH and I kept wondering throughout Kimmel's show!?! It looked like they had fun putting those together though!

I'm trying not to get overly excited, however my birthday is Thursday and my band is supposed to be here then.... :D :appl:

Can't be expressed enough ... distilled water is a must, thanks Ame.

I put paper towel in the bottom of the little mesh balls to avoid the metal-on-metal contact (as best as I can), so I get where you're coming from.

Also for those of us who have full eternities, I don't like grabbing near the melee w/ the tweezers (I'm not an expert so I felt like I'd do something awful to my stones). I just lay them on the paper in the little balls and steam away, then turn them over as needed.

Thanks guys! After two crappy days in a row it's nice to know that others are excited about my bling like me :D :appl: :appl:

I brought my car in to the dealership for service today and got the same shuttle driver both ways. Both times, I was the only passenger so I was sitting in the front seat of the van. When he drove me home I noticed that he liked to talk - though not in an intrusive way, so that was OK. What wasn't OK - with me anyway - was that he liked to talk with his hands while driving, as in both hands off the wheel at the same time. Silly me, I didn't say anything about it for the entire ~10-minute trip. On the way back to the dealership we were on the freeway and I was thinking about how and when to say something about it as he was gesturing with both hands, and my automatic nervous system took over ( :wink2: ) and I reached out and slapped the hand closest to me back onto the wheel. :o

I suppose there are probably better ways to make the point, but he did have one or both hands on the steering wheel for the remainder of the trip.

We need to eat dinner out more often.

Okay.... Maybe I need to set the standards higher at home too!

Went to a sit-down place for lunch today. DH ate his soup and then went for the pita with garlic sauce. All was going well until he decided to tear off a chunk of pita and set the rest on the table

I've never seen anyone put food directly on the table before him. Not sure why he does this...
Tortillas sit on the table (we use cloth tablecloth, placemats, and napkins for all meals) and then he'll scoop food off his plate to put in the tortilla :nono:

Used to be this was the exception and he'd catch himself and grab a little plate. Now he just sets the food there!
Bones in the meal? Stack them on the CLOTH placemat.
Stray bay leaf? Set it on the tablecloth.

Every last table linen we own (from tablecloths to placemats to napkins) are ALL covered in stains from this!

And now he's doing it in public too

ETA: For fairness, I'll share one of my bad habits too. I'm far from perfect!
Sometimes if I want just a little sip of fruit juice and don't want to have to dirty a glass, I'll drink directly from the bottle while standing with the refrigerator door open
