It's as if the big words in red that say Fragile Handle with Care are an invitation to ignore. The wine glasses were unharmed.IMG_0908 2.jpeg

OMG, that’s so ridiculous it’s funny, but only because the wine glasses were not harmed.

This is precisely why I refuse to put FRAGILE on anything I ship! It like the carriers take that as an invitation.

I’m trying to figure out how the wine glasses survived @Matata.

They were in a box inside the squished box each in their own compartment and wrapped in bubble wrap. I'm grateful that most of the stuff I've ordered these past few weeks have been double boxed. I suspect vendors are catching on to the fact that their shipments tend to be abused more during a busy holiday season.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the TV/streaming channels should not be doing specials regarding on-going, current police investigations or court cases (e.g. the Healthcare CEO murder, or the U of Idaho murders?) After sentencing sure, but otherwise it seems to me that they are poisoning the jury pool and making it harder for prosecutors to secure a conviction that will survive the inevitable appeals.

HI:

Made pastry and just assembled batch 1 of butter tarts. I've forgotten how much work it is! Luckily they are so yummy.

cheers--Sharon

I’m not sure there is anyway to stop the reporting on high profile cases. I believe Dateline, 20/20 and 48 hours have all done shows on the Idaho murders. The trial isn’t supposed to begin until August 2025. Finding an impartial jury may be difficult. Anything that happens regarding this case makes national news.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is a butter tart??

Yummy, gooey SWEET tart!

I don't put nuts in my tarts. But the recipe of brown sugar, butter, eggs, raisins, heavy creme, and vanilla is the same.

Yum! Yum! Butter tarts are wonderful. :lickout:

Yes, they are! But I don't find the commercially prepared tarts any good. Nothing like homemade! I just had one for breakfast!!!!

Thank you. I'm not much of a baker, but if I don't have to make the shells I think I can manage it. Maybe I'll give it a try!

Yeah, I know, it's wishful thinking. They do the spotlights because they feel it will sell commercial time, and sadly they are probably correct.

If you can find some deeper tart shells, go for it. The shallow ones are not optimal IMHO burn to easily and you won't get any gooey inside.

My Mom's ancient recipe:

1/3 c melted butter
1 c light brown sugar
1 beaten egg
2 tablespoons 1/2 and 1/2 creme
1 c raisins
1 tsp vanilla

Mix together and place in pastry shells. Bake at 450 degrees x 8 minutes then reduce heat to 350 and bake x 10 minutes.

Good luck!

This sounds delicious! How many does this make?
I may have to try it!

I think 1.5 dozen. My tart pan shell size is app. 1 inch deep and 2.5 inches wide. Produces a nice sized tart.

@RMOO, People become so obsessed with these cases and TV stations know they will be huge draws. I can only imagine the number of twitter posts and Reddit threads these cases draw.

I completely understand the attention with the Idaho murders. I wanted to start a thread on the CEO murder but didn’t think it would be interesting to many here on Pricescope. Although there are few women I know who don’t watch Dateline, 20/20 and 48 hours.

@canuk-gal, Years ago a friend told me that butter tarts tasted kind of like pecan pie. Do some people make butter tarts with pecans or nuts?

I sub in fresh cranberries, halved, for the raisins. It’s pure magic to have sweet (syrup base), flakey (pastry), crunchy (pecans), and then just a wee little bit of tartness (cranberries). :kiss2::lickout: And impossible to eat just one!

Oh for sure. I grew up with no nuts--so that's what I make. Walnuts common also.
I can see them likened to pecan pie.

Nice rendition!!
