I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

Yes it can be challenging and I knew I wouldn't like them so I never got them. If one has a need for precise vision progressives aren't a great option as it is a compromise. Also you must move your head where you are looking due to warpage on the side with how they have to be made. Some do get used to them but it is going to be a compromise in your vision

By warpage, do you mean the space on the lens sides that aren't prescription? If so, when I got my glasses last month, I had the option of getting lenses that extended the prescription farther out to the sides and significantly reduced what I think you mean by warpage. It's negligible with my new lenses. This year was the first year my doc offered this so I don't know if it's a new thing altogether or just a new thing at his office.

Yes it’s the way they grind the lenses to make the progressive lenses. The newer designs are better but still there’s compromise. My dh loves his progressive lenses and had very little trouble adapting. I’m glad you like yours too

@luckygreen317 did you just win a small treasure from Alex parks lab?

YES!! I saw it last night and thought wow, that’s a lot of names listed. I didn’t even remember what the giveaway was. I almost didn’t watch until the end because it was really long then my name popped up! I feel like I just won the jewelry lottery =)2 I have bought several small purchases from AP over the years. Lab stones for diamond studs, 14K chains, natural stones. The rosecut stone in my avatar being one of the prized purchases.

How exciting! Go find out what you won and report back with pictures! Inquiring minds want to know!!!

Lucky you!! How fun! I thiiiink, the prize was a pair of studs, but the video moved so fast it was hard to tell.

Few weeks ago I upgraded (I say this loosely) to progressives. Its mainly because I'm nearsighted but now have to take my glasses off to see the itty bitty print up close. or even threading a needle.

I'm sorry but they suck. They are supposedly mid distance and office friendly as I have big screens, but being that I program and am multiple lines of code, using them gives me headaches and massive eye strain. I keep going back to my old glasses for relief! (they're not what I need either but I'm not straining myself to see)

I will keep trying over the next week but I think I'm done. I absolutely hate wearing them.

@Arcadian - I’ve had similar challenges with progressives along the way. I’ve been wearing them since I was 39 so have rather a lot of experience. It took me 8 weeks to get used to mine when I first started wearing them. It took my husband 2 days :???:. The one thing I will suggest is that maybe the lens you are wearing might not be right for your prescription or you. Most manufacturers have a warranty on their lenses so if they don’t work within a certain timeframe you can try a different lens. Everyone is different and there are many different lenses on the market. The other thing I will encourage is to have your optician make sure the seg height is correct. I have a wonderful optician and she has tried me in many types of lenses to see what works. I have tried some that worked for distance but not close, some that were perfect for close but I couldn’t see clearly at a distance and then some that were spot on for everything. I feel like Goldilocks at times with the various lenses.

I am also a sewist so I understand your pain. I actually sew using my prescription readers (single vision lenses). I am wearing them as I type. Even though I wear progressives regularly I wear readers for close finicky work or reading. I have one pair next to my sewing machine. My astigmatism is quite bad in one eye so that can really affects the peripheral for me.

Just attended an in-person class for pruning fruit trees, and learned our apple, and peach trees (one of each) are overgrown messes! We moved to this house several years ago, and the trees had been either ignored or poorly pruned by previous people. So...going outside now to wreak havoc on said trees! Although they will be the healthier for it.

poor wee tikes,
:cry2:
i wish we still had our other thread Missy

Thank you Nicky. Unfortunately what’s happening all over the world is clearly being mimicked here as well. The last acceptable form of racism is antisemitism. Fact.

I appreciate your kind support. You’re the real gem of PS imo

oh Missy
on Wednesday i served a very well dressed gentleman who had a tiny label badge of the Israelis flag, i complimented him on it (for obveouse reasons) turns out he was a Hebrew teacher
he was saying the other day he was just walking down town here in Wanganui and some random guy just zeroes in on him and came running up shouting abuse,

here in Wanganui -our gentle conservative voting backwater in the boondocks of provincal NZ :cry2: :cry2: :cry2:
i told him everyone at work supports Israel -which is true

a different story from another customer
an older lady was going to buy a currie and rice meat pie
i warned her how mild they were 'like curry your mum used to make"
she went on to say her mum was Dutch and made Indoneasian curry
i asked if her parents had been in the war
she said (-i feel a big fat tear coming on,) her dad was 7 and his mum and dad used to help get the Jewish kids out , the wee boy would lie in the pram over the Jewish baby to hide them from the Nazis
imangine having to do that at 7? imangine your child having to do that?
but imangine if he hadn't done it ?

Nicky thank you. This is how I feel

today someone came into work with the other side of that lapel pin from the other day
i sold them the most burnt looking pie i could see in the pie warmer

A post to everyone who’s been open minded and willing to read my posts and try to understand my perspective. I am grateful we can have an open discussion to share each other’s points of view. This is a difficult topic and for those remaining open to understanding a different (and unpopular on pricescope) point of view, thank you.

Am I feeling lucky today! I just received the earrings from Alex Park’s giveaway he held last week for customers. 4 prong white gold 1 CTW round brilliant lab diamonds!

I have purchased 3 pair of lab diamonds for stud earring projects and highly recommend him as a trusted resource. I also impulse purchased (with no regrets) unique earth-mined diamonds he offers. The rosecut stone in my avatar is from him.

Thank you Alex Parks @parksfinegroupinc.

I like to know what's going on in the world, news-wise, yet am often skeptical about the source and (hidden?) bias of articles. A couple days ago, my DH (total news junkie) asked if I'd heard of ground.news. He'd just had it pop up in his daily swoop into headlines. Nope, it was new to me.

I searched it out, and was delighted to find a news compiler! They research the veracity of news, sources, tilt of political bias (centrist, left, right), and amongst other things, have "blindspot" section with articles that one side or the other is unaware of, news-reporting-wise. You can choose what part of the world you're interested in, specific topics, people, etc.

The site doesn't generate news, they only compile it. Fascinating!

I ended up purchasing a membership, and found they offer gift subscriptions at a discount, so I purchased one for DH. He didn't want to share a subscription due to log-in logistics if we only had one account.

Thanks for this. The fees for subscription are very reasonable, ranging from £10-80 per year.

I just checked it out and signed up for the cheapest subscription to see if I like it. If so, perhaps I'll upgrade. Thank you for posting it.

Finally a good update regarding my Alma mater. The right and decent thing to do. It’s not over but it’s a beginning.

HI:

Another 00 flour update. I was craving potato latkes. While I don't use a lot of flour to bind then into patties, I do use some. I tried the 00 flour today and they were crisp! In past they have been a bit chewy, but not today.

cheers--Sharon

I've never made them, but perhaps I'll try. I have a LARGE bag of 00 flour!
